Yom Kippur is translated into Day of Atonement.Atonement means to be made one.The sin of the people are forgiven on this day. In the Old Testament it was the only day when the Priest could enter the Holy of Holies.Two sacrifices were made.One, a blood offering that was an appeasement for God's wrath.THe other was a lamb that was sent into the wilderness with the people's sins.These sacrifices were symbolic types of their coming fulfillment in Jesus Christ.This is the heart of Christianity

@MrBansal2008 I notice, like in this discussion itself, that there is so much emphasis about how the 'monotheist' religions should work to find their commonalities, but there is reluctance to acknowledge the need for acceptance of non-monotheistic religions like Hinduism for example. Isn't this hypocrisy?

The followers of Islam and Chritianity are the two most violent groups of people. And this comes as no surprise if you read their books. Their holiy books essentially tells you it is my way or highway. Both the religions are founded on tribal myth glorified beyond belief.

Sorry, I disagree with Pooja. In Hinduism there is only one GOD. The several dieties Pooja is referring are demi gods. It is like there is one government; however it has several officials to manage affairs of a country (a small piece of land) on earth which is one of the planets in universe. On the same lines, GOG who controls whole cosmos (his creation) has various demigods, who are incharge of small particular section of cosmos.
