@23rj23rj - see c omment I just posted below for kikikissez about clicker training. It's a great way to train your bird through positive reinforcement.
CUTEST THING EVER !!! BUT IVE HAD MY PARROT AND ONLY I CAN TOUCH HIM HE BITES EVERYONE ELSE SO I'M SCARED TO TAKE HIM OUT THE CAGE BECAUSE HE MIGHT ATTACK EVERYONE AND I HAVE LITTLE SIBILINGS! ANY SUGGESTIONS?
@kikikissez Check out Melinda Johnson's book, Clicker Training for Birds. Teaching birds tricks helps them to bond with you and have more trust. Unfortunately, birds are not very good pets with little kids around. You may be the only one he trusts, unless you can gently and calmly get your siblings involved in his training, after you read the book. And, check out the yahoo group, BirdClick, it's a group about training birds in a positive way that is run by Melinda Johnson and it's free.
I just adopted a 4 year old Senegal. He wouldnt let anyone hold him but now he does! Problem is he wont talk. He has said hi a few times, mostly for my boyfriend. Any advice on training?
@jekaufman3604 - See comments i just posted below about clicker training. It's a great way to train your bird through positive reinforcement. As far as training them to talk, I think the best way to do that is just to talk and sing to them a lot, in a silly voice. They like that.
my senegals the only 1 that doesnt talk she will whistle give kisses & laughs but no words my blue crown conure picked up quicker. did you own her as a baby?
My mum has a senegal called Paddie, she seems to only like my mum however, she has drawn blood from everyone except her!
Also, she doesn't talk, our other two parrots (an african grey, Riko, and an indian ringneck, Mika) do talk! Paddie only mimics the telephone, I wonder why?
Lovely bird, My senegal Clive, just loves listening to this video. He is very arrogant when he wants to be and is such a character. But you just cant help but love him.
@roamdaboardlife - Annabelle is going to be 8 in November. Thanks for the kind words! He, however, does bite. He doesn't mean to be "mean" but I'm the only one that can hold him, though he loves attention from anyone.
@Metal5Dark - No way is it too late, it's never too late. And, your bird is still young anyway. Just treat him with extreme kindness, be patient, and look into clicker training for birds (there's a book by Melinda Johnson on the subject and a free yahoo group). Training can help a lot with bonding.
Your voice isn't annoying, lol. Beautiful bird, that's incredible that he knows so much and speaks so clearly. I have a 5 month old Sennie and she's not very vocal at all. I love her just the same even if she never utters a word, but it sure is amusing to watch one talk!
nice vid, i am gonna get my one senegal parrot tommorow. a 2 year old one,who lived with another senegal parrot, but it got teased all te time. So she is very sad now and gets a new owner, ME!!
I have a senegal that I just got a few weeks ago. She is 6 years old. She was locked up all the time, and not happy at all. She is now talking up a storm! She was very interested in this video. Can you tell me how long it takes your bird to learn a new word or phrase? Peanut seems to pick things up over night!
I have a Senegal named "Shakira" he tries to bite my boyfriend all the time that he wants to feed him or going around him, I found a strange thing he didn't talk at all, he makes noise like smoker alarm when I am not around. I am wondering if the senegals they don't talk or is just mine I have been trying to teach him but doesn't work. Any advise?? Thanks for helping.
hey, i have a senegal to and got it when he was about 8 weeks old. he couldnt talk at all when i got him. what i advice u to try is to use the same phrase everytime u greet him , for example i said hey paco taco (paco is her name) and after a month orso she started to greet me with hey paco.
ofc this doesnt work on all parrots but it did on mine he is now 1,5 years and can say up to 10 full phrase,s
Thanks a lot for your advice, I was saying something to him but I quit after few times, I going to start again and keep doing it, so maybe he can learn some words. Thanks againl.
my baby george came from a bad home they kept him locked up 24 7 and said he was aggressive and didnt talk ive had him now for 5 weeks hes about 18 months old and hes talking and whistling now i put your bird on for him every day and hes besotted lol and learning new things all the time
yes afraid dont seem to go to everyone and can give a nasty bite... if they like you they are loving and very talkative.. like to chat and want company... mine attacks just about everyone but me
Hey I really want to get a Senegal parrot but I heard they are only a "one-person" kind of bird. Is this true? 'Cause I don't want my girlfriend and possible wife to get jealous, but I just LOVE Senegals.
Mine does like others, but I'm the only one who can hold him because he's pretty aggressive. Clicker training can help. But, all birds are different, so it's hard to say. But, they are a HUGE commitment and require lots of attention. Make sure the girlfriend likes birds and is very patient. :)
The top is separate. This cage is now his sleeping cage, I actually bought a much bigger one 2 years ago. When I got him, they told me they liked smaller cages, but since then, I did learn that he should be in a much bigger cage. Luckily, he is usually out of his cage anyway. So, if you have a sennie, I recommend a much bigger cage than the one I have in this video :)
what a sweetheart! I had a senegal, Billy, who died 6 years ago. I got him as a baby and hand fed him. He was 11 years old when he died. I still miss him. He said "good morning", "come here", "hello", he whistled and danced. He also was very good at imitating the smoke alarm, which was very annoying at times.
My african grey still imitates Billy...which makes me smile. It is like he is still with us.
Not all sennies can learn to talk well... Some are just more interested than others. But, they all love it if you talk and sing to them a lot. If yours will learn to talk it will be because you talk to him/her a lot.
Adorable I am getting a 11 year old next week owner has to rehome. I am so excited but sorry for her she is so upset. You true friends and animales do not care that you have a high voice. Animals see the true you. I am 360 lbs my animals love me for me as well as people who looked beyound the outside. Deb
Oh he is so smart and sweet... I had a sennie girl Lani who passed away almost 3 years ago - I still miss her so much..:( She only learned how to say her name and some cute whistles and sounds like the microwave, phone, sneeze, etc. I hope to get another sennie one day soon - I love their spunky personalities :)
like to look this video, very nice bird. we have also a senegal parrot, but he/she is just 6 weeks old. hope he is going to sing like this senegal to. very nice!!
but not so, i just love him so much already so, but it shall be nice!!
Not all will learn to talk like mine, I think he's just got some natural talent. But, I have always talked and sang silly songs to him all the time, and he loves that. Even if he doesn't know what I am singing, he makes up his own lyrics.
Wow! Sandy, can you recommend any books/techniques you used for training Annabelle? I am a vet and have seen many parrots in my time - this is impressive!
For tricks (see other videos) I used the clicker training method, all positive reinforcement and he loves that. Check out the Bird Click group on yahoo groups and also the book Clicker Training for Birds by Melinda Johnson. For talking, we just talk and sing to him all the time.
i have a senegal parrott too who is a year old, i played this video while he was sitting with me, now he wants to watch it all the time and whistles and chirps at the screen lmaooo, love your video and your birdie xo
I've got a Senegal called Robbie who is 29 known years old. He came to our family at the age of 6 from a different family. He's probably wild caught but very, very tame. He spends most of the day on my shoulder making noises of all kind, saying his name, my name and imitating several alarm clocks of the past 20 years plus squeaking like some of our doors in the house and a variety of other noises like the zip of handbags. Pity he's old and almost blind now because I love him lots.
I've owned my Senegal, Sunday Boy, for 23 years. I suspect he was wild caught when I bought him. He's grumpy as hell and doesn't talk but he's very smart. He does imitate cockatiels though. I adore him
Wow he's really an excellent talker. If my Senegal Parrot, Kermit is able to talk like that it will be a BONUS. I'm really impress with your training techniques. So far it's the best talking Sennie I ever seen.
Wow! Your Sennie says a lot! I have one too, she's 8. She says a lot of things and makes a lot of noises and whistles, she clucks like a chicken, too. but she really doesn't say more than 2 syllable words. I try and get her in action on video but she clams up as soon as she sees the thing. I'll have to sneak up on her with it.
my wife and I got a Senegal named Kiwi last year. Could ask for a better bird. Doesnt say much...so far she only says Good Baby which is a lie cuz she is naughty. She loves to make a mess which i get to clean up. I think my next bird is gona be either another Sennie or a Hahns. Does she get picky about fruit? ours loves green grapes but not red, and she loves honey dew melons but not canteloupe.
i love ur sengal parrot.very clever talker&cute.i have sengal parrot who i love&there personailty are so nice.does ur go on its back cos mine goes on back&also if go out room for min squaks at me to say come back lol..does urs doin anthin else aswell talking?
I just got a segenal parrot from a breeder (I believe i rescued it because it was being used as a breeding tool) well it is an old bird, and kind of wild, I was wondering if its possible to tame her??
OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH MAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol,can u please leave me a message shandy with some tips on how i can my my future 2 baby parotts talk, i ma looking into getting 2 of them, thanks i appreciate it
Both. I know he talks when we aren't here too. I have walked up to the door and heard him chattering away. He also knows what certain things mean. At bedtime, he says "I think it's bedtime for birdie" and "Night night for birdie!" over and over till he gets put to bed. When he wants to be held he says, "Wanna come with me?" And a few more things...
Annabelle is just tooooo cool! I really enjoyed this video, I love hearing parrots chatter and sing - obviously your little guy is quite an expert. In fact, my 8 year old Senegal was so entertained that I had to play it over again for her. :)
Annabelle is really sweet and cute. Our family intended to get a Senegal too. We read a few articles stating that it will be better picking a new senegal after 7-9months old, as they will be more confident and don't exhibits extremely shy & bossy behaviors. Any advice what age of a senegal will suitable? Btw hw old is Annabelle when u gt him?
I got mine as a baby after he was weened. I don't think age matters too much as long as you get them weened and that you get them from a responsible breeder or pet store that specializes in birds. My guy is "bossy" and somewhat aggressive at times, but adorable too. Good training with positive reinforcement (no punishment) is important. Read Clicker Training for Birds by Melinda Johnson and also the Bird Click yahoo group is very helpful. A good and varied diet, no junk, is crucial. Good luck!
Hi Shaaandy. Our family was offered by the local pet store a 2years old senegal (it's matured can see the yellow eyes), is rather tame but a little hand-shy on stepping up. My dad was very keen in taking up the mature senegal. I was wondering whether is it a good option for dad to bring him home? Anyway is a 2years old Senegal too old and difficult to be tamed as good companion. Next is there still possibility to teach a 2years old senegal to mimic? Really appreciate your advice =)
We just talk to him (and Annabelle is a boy) a lot and sing stupid songs to him. He pays attention when we talk or sing in a very animated voice. Your bird may still pick up some words. Some birds are just more interested in talking than others too for whatever reason.
My Senegals Star and Domingo LOVE to watch your video - it's their favorite show! They whistle and chatter along. Star began to say "Hi Brian" about a month ago and we could not figure out who he knew named Brian - finally just realized where he learned it. Ha ha!
Hi... He was about 5 months old, I think when he said his first word, well, his first "word" was a cough. We had company over who had a cold and he started mimicking her coughing. After that, he hasn't stopped. Amy, he's saying "shake, shake, shake" part of "Shake your Birdie" instead of Booty. But he does say Sh*t too :)
Go figure! I just picked up my Meyers Parrot (15 weeks old), and I have cough. He is clearing his throat after 2 days and makes kissy noises. Great job on training him. If you have any advice, please send it my way. This is my first bird, and what a joy!
So cute! I just can't get my Senegal parrot to do that. It's not mine, but it's my mom's. Did it say shake it, shake it, shake it? That's cute. I do have my own bird named Isabella, she's a Meyers parrot. I try to teach her how to beatbox and talk, but she can't, either.
Thanks gotramen1 and jo0ba... I don't know why he's such a good talker, he just loves to talk. He did say shake shake shake... It's part of the song Shake your Booty though he says, shake your birdie, but not in this video. But, whether your birds talk or not, I'm sure they're still super smart and cute. Keep giving them love and attention and they may one day talk.
I LOVE Annabelle! I have an 8 month old females Senegal named Tilly and she loves the video too. Hope she learns to talk like that. I work at home so she is out with me all day and I am her human. I talk and sing to her all the time and she loves it. What a great bird and video. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks Gossett. I work from home too, that's probably partly why he is such a talker. It's great that you give your sennie so much attention, they love it.
Hi Amanda, Thanks. Not all birds talk, so yours may or may not talk. It doesn't mean yours is less smart or anything, some just do and some don't. They can all learn tricks though, check out clicker training. There's a yahoo group called birdclick that's great that can teach you, and they love to learn. Mine learned to talk because we constantly talked and sang to him, and he just picked up on it.
Thanks for the nice comments. We love him very much. He started talking at about 6 months old. His first "word" was a cough, as my sister-in-law was over and she had a bad cold and was coughing and out of the blue Annabelle started coughing. He's not always such an angel though :)
That's great that you have a rescue! You are doing a good thing. I don't know if they all can talk like mine, but if you talk to yours a lot, Kayto will probably pick up on something. Even if he doesn't pick up something, it will help wiith the bond. Mine is a biter though, and I don't know why yours is a rescue but if he has bitiing problems, you might want to check out clicker training. All positive reinforcement.
Thanks for the kind words and the great information, this is Kayto's third home he was a poor scared little sennie that would fly away at a site of a hand now after five days Kayto is bonding very nice with me.
I agree. When we got him, that was the cage that was recommended. Since then, I have seen better cages and am looking into getting a bigger cage which are very expensive. But, he is rarely in his cage.
Try looking on ebay or demsond cage depot if your in the USA they have pretty good prices online. And alot are free shipping to the USA. You can get a good wraught iron one online for im sure under 100$
Thanks... That's funny that your girl is named Zach and my boy (we found out later that he is a boy) is named Annabelle. Annabelle tries to be sweet, but he does have quite a bite on him. We're working on clicker training to try to improve that.
i have 1 aswell, all he does is bite any time you go near his cage, blood drawn every time, how do you tame them so well? any tips appreciated! fantastic bird!!!
Thanks. Check out clicker training. My senegal bites as well, but you have to learn to avoid the bite and also, make sure you are not teaching him to bite. They bite because that's their only means of defense if they feel they are threatened. There's a clicker training group on yahoo called BirdClick, I highly recommend you check it out. It's all about positive reinforcement, it's easy, and your bird will love it. Also, check out the book, Clicker Training for Birds by Melinda Johnson.
I love it when you are singing and she is singing back to you. That is lovely... really lovely.

I think that's the best talking Senegal I've heard. Congrats. Beans only says 'hello' and 'I dunno'
LoveForZeppelin 3 years ago
I've got a Senegal called Robbie who is 29 known years old. He came to our family at the age of 6 from a different family. He's probably wild caught but very, very tame. He spends most of the day on my shoulder making noises of all kind, saying his name, my name and imitating several alarm clocks of the past 20 years plus squeaking like some of our doors in the house and a variety of other noises like the zip of handbags. Pity he's old and almost blind now because I love him lots.
Vogelfreundin 3 years ago
I've owned my Senegal, Sunday Boy, for 23 years. I suspect he was wild caught when I bought him. He's grumpy as hell and doesn't talk but he's very smart. He does imitate cockatiels though. I adore him
Madamx28 3 years ago
Wow he's really an excellent talker. If my Senegal Parrot, Kermit is able to talk like that it will be a BONUS. I'm really impress with your training techniques. So far it's the best talking Sennie I ever seen.
proviewsg 3 years ago
Wow! Your Sennie says a lot! I have one too, she's 8. She says a lot of things and makes a lot of noises and whistles, she clucks like a chicken, too. but she really doesn't say more than 2 syllable words. I try and get her in action on video but she clams up as soon as she sees the thing. I'll have to sneak up on her with it.

bosox7796 3 years ago
my wife and I got a Senegal named Kiwi last year.

I just got a segenal parrot from a breeder (I believe i rescued it because it was being used as a breeding tool) well it is an old bird, and kind of wild, I was wondering if its possible to tame her??
mattbugz2 3 years ago
If it was caught in the wild it will be very difficult if not impossible.

64miguel 3 years ago
does he talk for attention or does he only talk when you talk to him?
truepinklove881 4 years ago
Both. I know he talks when we aren't here too. I have walked up to the door and heard him chattering away. He also knows what certain things mean. At bedtime, he says "I think it's bedtime for birdie" and "Night night for birdie!" over and over till he gets put to bed. When he wants to be held he says, "Wanna come with me?" And a few more things...

i used to have a senegal!! where did u get this bird?
lojack 4 years ago
Annabelle is just tooooo cool! I really enjoyed this video, I love hearing parrots chatter and sing - obviously your little guy is quite an expert. In fact, my 8 year old Senegal was so entertained that I had to play it over again for her. :)
gothamsyren 4 years ago
Annabelle is really sweet and cute. Our family intended to get a Senegal too. We read a few articles stating that it will be better picking a new senegal after 7-9months old, as they will be more confident and don't exhibits extremely shy & bossy behaviors. Any advice what age of a senegal will suitable? Btw hw old is Annabelle when u gt him?
proviewsg 4 years ago
I got mine as a baby after he was weened. I don't think age matters too much as long as you get them weened and that you get them from a responsible breeder or pet store that specializes in birds. My guy is "bossy" and somewhat aggressive at times, but adorable too. Good training with positive reinforcement (no punishment) is important. Read Clicker Training for Birds by Melinda Johnson and also the Bird Click yahoo group is very helpful. A good and varied diet, no junk, is crucial. Good luck!
Shaaandy 4 years ago
Thanks Shaaandy for the advice =)
proviewsg 4 years ago
Hi Shaaandy. Our family was offered by the local pet store a 2years old senegal (it's matured can see the yellow eyes), is rather tame but a little hand-shy on stepping up. My dad was very keen in taking up the mature senegal. I was wondering whether is it a good option for dad to bring him home? Anyway is a 2years old Senegal too old and difficult to be tamed as good companion. Next is there still possibility to teach a 2years old senegal to mimic? Really appreciate your advice =)
proviewsg 4 years ago
How did you get her to talk like that. We have a 3 year old female senegal parrot "Patty". All she ever learned was "mommy" and "pretty bird".
IRAQ2008 4 years ago
We just talk to him (and Annabelle is a boy) a lot and sing stupid songs to him. He pays attention when we talk or sing in a very animated voice. Your bird may still pick up some words. Some birds are just more interested in talking than others too for whatever reason.
Shaaandy 4 years ago
My Senegals Star and Domingo LOVE to watch your video - it's their favorite show! They whistle and chatter along. Star began to say "Hi Brian" about a month ago and we could not figure out who he knew named Brian - finally just realized where he learned it. Ha ha!
cbadrick 4 years ago
Oh. That is sooo cute. :)
Shaaandy 4 years ago
that song you sing with him, hey birdie, hey birdie soo... wake up wake up. whats that?
truepinklove881 4 years ago
Just a stupid song that I made up that has other lyrics, but those are the ones he knows.
Shaaandy 4 years ago
How long did it take before he said his first word? How old was he?
Peedge80 4 years ago
Shaaandy 4 years ago
Go figure! I just picked up my Meyers Parrot (15 weeks old), and I have cough. He is clearing his throat after 2 days and makes kissy noises. Great job on training him. If you have any advice, please send it my way. This is my first bird, and what a joy!
Peedge80 4 years ago
Lol, too cute! My senegal only says "c'mere!" and "c'mon!" Lol.... is she saying "sh*t sh*t sh*t"? I love the "hey birdie, hey birdie"

So cute! I just can't get my Senegal parrot to do that. It's not mine, but it's my mom's. Did it say shake it, shake it, shake it? That's cute. I do have my own bird named Isabella, she's a Meyers parrot. I try to teach her how to beatbox and talk, but she can't, either.
gotramen1 4 years ago
Thanks gotramen1 and jo0ba... I don't know why he's such a good talker, he just loves to talk. He did say shake shake shake... It's part of the song Shake your Booty though he says, shake your birdie, but not in this video. But, whether your birds talk or not, I'm sure they're still super smart and cute. Keep giving them love and attention and they may one day talk.
Shaaandy 4 years ago
"It's Okay!" sooo adorable! I wish my Senegal will talk like that, he's only a baby for now. Thanks for sharing this video, it makes me smile :)

My parrot is 1 years old now. He don't speak. Just make a lot of crazy sounds. Do you think he will talk one day?

I LOVE Annabelle! I have an 8 month old females Senegal named Tilly and she loves the video too. Hope she learns to talk like that. I work at home so she is out with me all day and I am her human. I talk and sing to her all the time and she loves it. What a great bird and video. Thank you for sharing!
gossett2006 4 years ago
Thanks Gossett. I work from home too, that's probably partly why he is such a talker. It's great that you give your sennie so much attention, they love it.
Shaaandy 4 years ago
How do I teach mine my senegal to talk? But I like this video she is very smart!
Amanda159753 4 years ago
Hi Amanda, Thanks. Not all birds talk, so yours may or may not talk. It doesn't mean yours is less smart or anything, some just do and some don't. They can all learn tricks though, check out clicker training. There's a yahoo group called birdclick that's great that can teach you, and they love to learn. Mine learned to talk because we constantly talked and sang to him, and he just picked up on it.

What age did Annabelle start talking?
rockybeach1 4 years ago
Thanks for the nice comments. We love him very much. He started talking at about 6 months old. His first "word" was a cough, as my sister-in-law was over and she had a bad cold and was coughing and out of the blue Annabelle started coughing. He's not always such an angel though :)
Shaaandy 4 years ago
I have a 6 month old rescue sennie named Kayto he is doing very good just had him 5 days.
rockybeach1 4 years ago
That's great that you have a rescue! You are doing a good thing. I don't know if they all can talk like mine, but if you talk to yours a lot, Kayto will probably pick up on something. Even if he doesn't pick up something, it will help wiith the bond. Mine is a biter though, and I don't know why yours is a rescue but if he has bitiing problems, you might want to check out clicker training. All positive reinforcement.
Shaaandy 4 years ago
Thanks for the kind words and the great information, this is Kayto's third home he was a poor scared little sennie that would fly away at a site of a hand now after five days Kayto is bonding very nice with me.

needs a better and bigger cage. Other than that cute!
meghanxx4 4 years ago
I agree. When we got him, that was the cage that was recommended. Since then, I have seen better cages and am looking into getting a bigger cage which are very expensive. But, he is rarely in his cage.
Shaaandy 4 years ago
Well if he just uses it as kind of a sleeping cage or whatever then its fine i guess. Im getting senegal in a few months by the way. cant wait.
meghanxx4 4 years ago
Try looking on ebay or demsond cage depot if your in the USA they have pretty good prices online. And alot are free shipping to the USA. You can get a good wraught iron one online for im sure under 100$

I wish my girl Zach spoke like Annabelle-all Zach does is be sweet to me. But I guess that's OK too. You are lucky w Annabelle!
joycepayeur 4 years ago
Thanks... That's funny that your girl is named Zach and my boy (we found out later that he is a boy) is named Annabelle. Annabelle tries to be sweet, but he does have quite a bite on him. We're working on clicker training to try to improve that.

i have 1 aswell, all he does is bite any time you go near his cage, blood drawn every time, how do you tame them so well? any tips appreciated! fantastic bird!!!
steviegaz 4 years ago
