I saw this 1998 production though other cast: Felicity Lott; Anne Sofie von Otter; Ruth Ziesak.
In The Presentation of the Rose Octavian arrived at the top of the stairs and began his descent. Meanwhile, Sophie began her ascent, twice stumbling to find footing under her ballgown. Way back, halfway up, they met to sing their gorgeous duet. I was only 10 rows from the front, so could still hear something. The orchestra, located between us, drowned out the soft, delicate passages. It was pathetic!
wow... you can hear the wear of age on Bonney's voice. It's markedly different from, say, her 1985 recordings. Still, she's much warmer and much sweeter than some other Sophie's I've heard. Bonney is the best.
Sorry, Susan's legs are too sexy to be a man's. XD
But I would have given anything to have seen this production! Three of the greats singing in one awesome opera!
