Girders or. . . garters? FAAAART. Anyway I searched it up over the internet & apparently just the shaving bit got banned. Ummm--shaving bits. But I still don't get why; (many) womens DO shave their legs. This one had just not got round to do it for a minute. It's not like she ends it having a Brazilian wax. . . although women do that, too. . . best not think about it.
Surprisingly Irn Bru is available here in the US in Amazon's subscribe and save program. You can have it delivered to you on a monthly basis! (doesn't have to be every month - I get mine every 3 months)
@gratex I think it used to be and you had to have it shipped from the UK or Canada by shippers who weren't too picky about what they shipped where. I was surprised when it showed up on Amazon, but now I can get my fix.
@gratex - No, it's Canada which demands that caffeinated drinks be dark-coloured. This means that the Canadian version of Mountain Dew (a neon-yellow-coloured lemon-lime soda pop) is caffeine-free, while the original American version has more caffeine in it than cola drinks do. Kids in the USA have even wound up in the hospital due to excessive consumption of Mountain Dew.
@JohnWoo - Ah, that's because Red Bull is an energy drink, not a soda pop.
For the past couple of years, Health Canada (the Canadian equivalent of the U.S. Food & Drug Administration) has been studying energy drinks and whether or not to consider them to be in the same class as vitamin supplements, which would then require each one to be thoroughly tested and assigned a unique identifier number. The main concern is the number of kids who frequently consume multiple energy drinks.
@thesmithsmad There are a ton of adverts on Irn Bru which say they were 'banned' I think it's just when the ads are considered confidential and the person who posts them wants more views. I've seen several "Banned" adverts, including this one, on UK TV.
@thesmithsmad - Some people thought it was offensive to transgenders/transvestites but Advertising Standards everything up until the woman shaving was okay. So this full ad is banned but everything up until 0:24 can and has been shown on TV.
I also love the idea of some fat, bloated corporate Texan rolling up into Glasgow and saying "How many truck loads off Cocal Cola would y'all like to buy this week?"
"None mate, we're drinking pop made out of girders, now fuck off."
It is so ridiculous that some tiny minded humourless people got this ad banned. Was by far one of the funniest ads out Therese the time. People should stop taking themselves so seriously
According to google, ofcom banned this advert because it received 17 complaints, some from transsexuals, that the advert portrays a negative image of transsexuals, ofcom ruled in favour of the complaints, mainly due to the look of horror on the families faces when hearing this and the shaving scene at the end reinforcing stereotypes.
Although I find it ridiculous that in a country of millions, 17 people got something banned.
I kind of agree though, I mean, it makes you feel like shit about yourself if you're a transperson and that's how a family reacts to being told. Plus, if she was trans, A. she wouldn't hve to shave, B. she couldn't hve kids. BUT WHATEVZIEZ.
It was banned cause it was deemed offensive to trans-sexuals. Even though it's not meant to be. It makes fun of the changing times and how uptight 1950s society was. That the family are deemed to be 'perfect' and 'normal' when infact it turns out they have some very interesting secrets (or atleast one big one). The humour is derived from the oxymoron. Rather than just a 'lol she used to be a man, thats funny' cause it just wouldn't be in its own right. So no. Not offensive.
I love irn bru!! I can drink a full 2 litre bottle a day if I wanted to, and I dont drink much anyway ;D Why do they bother making mini bottles anyway??
Scotland is the only country where Coke is not the top selling soft drink. Coke want to buy out Irn Bru. Coke can go take a long walk off a short pier!
I'm so glad some Americans love Irn Bru, most people from England think us, Scottish people, are silly for drinking Irn Bru. half my English friends say "It looks like pee so no way" when pee isn't orange, well mines isn't? But I'm soooooo glad people from all over the world love it!
@jennydunnYEAH thats your first problem, you have "english" friends, do you guys sit around and talk about how their ancestors raped murdered and opressed yours for 700 years?
@jennydunnYEAH I'm from the south of england and Ican't live without Irn Bru xD I have a 2litre obttle of it everyday :L all my friends say I have an addiction :L
@jennydunnYEAH Heck yah! I am weighting for Krogers or Walmart of start selling Irn-Bru. I ordered a 12 pack on the web and I have to say, it hands down tops Coke, Pepsi, and Dr. Pepper in terms of a good drink. It reminds me of going to a fast food joint and mixing six different soft drinks together, only somehow, still managing to seem like a normal drink. It just goes to show that Scotland is the King of good drinks. (Examples, Scotch, Grog, and now, Irn-Bru.)
@jennydunnYEAH excuse me, I am English and Irn Bru is lush. I prefer Dr Pepper but that's just personal taste. Irn Bru looks nothing like pee. Beer does and I bet they can drink that all day.
@jennydunnYEAH At least you can buy it in England. I've been working down here for the past 6 months and its been available in every super market. There were loads of those new "seaside picture postcard" adverts all over Manchester and Liverpool too. So some of the English at least must love the taste (along with ruining their teeth and insides LOL). Is Irn Bru sold anywhere other than Scotland and England come to think of it? The whole world should be allowed to experience it in my opinion :-D
@jennydunnYEAH Its sold in Canada, Finland, Australia, Germany, Holland, GB, Ireland, Greece, The Middle East, New Zealand, Norway, Pakistan, Spain, Sweden, Singapore, Portugal and The US.
@jennydunnYEAH Having been in Russia, & not recently at that, I was there in y2000. So it'll be available just about anywhere. Though probably not in N Korea, apart from the president's palace {:-^|
I love this ad, I remember laughing at this whenever it appeared! Kinda shocked to find out this was banned... Anyways, peace to Scotland! (I'm a Londoner :-P)
