me sorprende...
It doesn't matter where you heard it. It doesn't matter when it was released or when you were born. When music speaks to the soul, it transcends limitations by which we are bound, such as time.
All we are is not our past experiences or what our future holds. It is who we are right now, in this moment. So a big thumbs up for Colin Hay and to everyone watching/listening to this music.
like to here this now a days ! i miss this period in time so much ! music today is only samples of years ago not much artistic but 99 0/0 commercial ! full of sh.. ! love you !
Man can write some lyrics.... this is a powerful song... but it's all muted intervals. It's a tough one to play acoustically and get a good crowd reaction without amplification or a 12 string....
my dad had all the Men At Work albums on phonograph record... He used to play them in the basement and I took a liking to this album in particular with the original... That was back in like... 97.. Reminds me of simpler times.
I was turned on to it by SCRUBS myself but had been a men at work fan in the beginning.Anyone can dig a really good song no matter how it came to pass.
me an a friend of mine were in this music shop, and this random guy was trying out this beauty of an acoustic, started playing the intro to this, an we just started singing along, got through the whole song before we all started laughing an we've now been friends with this guy like 2 years, awesome song
probably my favorite song , especially this version, also enjoy the lazlo bane video , featuring colin hay, the original is a little eighties, but thats the beauty of music, its not a contest about who is better or which version is best, its all about what you like!
I always thought this song was Benjamin Gate's!!! I didn't know Benjamin Gate only covered it! Wow, I feel so blown away by this, haha. This version is amazing. And no wonder, originals are usually more amazing than anything that comes after, haha. Not always, but usually. Love it.
@ShoeMage Mate, you picked the wrong word : spelt is fine. The "mistake" was in douchebag (which you corrected). But the joke's lost when you have to explain it...
@adampetford It doesn't matter how you expand your musical horizon. What matters is that you did. Much of the music I listen too is far older than I am, but it doesn't mean that it isn't still great music. I'm still finding "new" music to listen too.
@adampetford Don't feel like you should be apologetic about hearing this first on Scrubs, it's given Colin and his music visibility that he wouldn't otherwise have. It's nice to know that this song isn't forgotten, because it's a great song period.
@adampetford I'm the exact same. But it turned me onto his music. Love so much of his work. So I never think its a bad thing. Better to be late than never find it. Good on ya!
@adampetford oooh poor baby go back and just look up the 1980-1989 catalog of music and you will be amazed by all of the great music you'll find. lt was one of the best times of music and a lot of great artist were forgotten about because Michael Jackson, Prince, Madonna, & Janet Jackson sucked up all the attention of the decade but there are other great people, from that time. Erasure, Simply Redd, INXS, Jody Watley, Fine Young Cannibals, Shannon, Richard Marx, Stevie B, Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam
@adampetford This version's way better than the original I think... the original is clearly an 80's song (and painfully so). This is more contemporary and free of all saxophone playing, thankfully.
I loved this song in the 80s, but i'm so thrilled with this acoustic version and Colin Hay's other acoustic projects over the past several years. Thanks to Scrubs for getting this to new audiences. And really enjoyed the video! good job.
This is a very nice, literal imagining of the song. I like it, but a little tighter editing could have elevated it to another level. For example, when he says the "ghosts appear and fade away," you have the ghost just pop out. It would be more effective to have the ghost actually fade out, very slowly, as he lingers on the word, "faaaade." Also, the inclusion of two photos (street and guy by hat) was distracting, as everything until then had just been clip art. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it a lot!
@mmitchellhouston I was thinking the exact same thing about the ghost. other than that, pretty good. most of all, I just love the song. both acoustic and the 1983 version
What I love about the acoustic version of this song is that you can really sink into the beauty of the chord voicings that are used..This is just a great song performed by a master. I love playing the acoustic versions of many songs, and I always enjoy covering Colin Hay.
@spursdave69 You missed the point. The lyrics haven't changed. The creator of the video mis quoted the lyrics.... Perhaps if you go read my post again it might make better sense

There is a much, much "fuller" sounding acoustic version of this song out there...also by Colin Hay himself...maybe using a 12-string.
I've had an MP3 of it for years - but I can't remember where I got it from.

If you spend your time correcting spelling on the internet you are fighting a long, difficult and losing battle. Oh, and you have no life.
