  • Tom Smith has enormous hands :o

  • ITLAOTE is grower

  • very underrated album!

  • I love the new sound, they've matured immensely. Well, matured may be too blunt, I will say their sound has evolved and it's for the better. I have enjoyed their music since album number one, but the sound on the newest one it so new and fresh. I hope number 4 is just as good.

  • Dark my arse. Im a normal working class british lad, and I think Editors music is beautiful, uplifting and inspiring. Never have I thought of it as "dark" or "gothic"... thats absolute bollocks.

  • This album is just a masterpiece

  • oh....and while I loved the last album, I cannot stop playing the new one!! I'm hypnotized by it.

I can't wait to see them in Philly again.

  • There are a number of bands who've made abrupt changes in musical style. I want to say it started with Radiohead's "Kid A" but it really goes back to the Beatles. Were there any Beatles fans who wanted them to always sing songs like "Please Please Me" and couldn't stand "Strawberry Fields Forever"? Sometimes I think bands could be a little gentler with their fans by slowly incorporating new sounds but who am I to say what The Editors should do? They're the artists. They know the risk.

  • You can be an insect, but you aren't more creative than they ... sorry

  • @shadowkunt you gotta have goods to back up a comment like that

  • Well, they're not Tchaikovsky, or John Cage. In fact, they're not even Radiohead. But I can think of contemporary musicians that try less and/or yield less. Just out of curiosity, though, what do you like to listen to? For me, personally, innovation is sometimes, but not always synonymous with listenability.

  • the guy on the left has a boner

  • Personally, I detest the new album. Yes, I still respect Editors, but I feel slightly disappointed that they would deviate from AEHAS to something like this. Thankfully, there are acoustic versions to some tracks, including Papillon.

  • Christ, say something someone doesn't agree with and they come out the woodwork in a flash.

  • i think their new album is great. plus it's their band so they can do what they want to.

  • Why is it that stale and exhausted instruments are defined as "real" and computerized art and music is deemed "fake". Fake, as in "not authentic"? So something besides a piano can sound like a piano...big deal. It's called evolution. Yeah, the creative process is different but that's the whole point. It's called innovation.

Editors have mad creative flow and their shit is real!

  • Innovation is a band taking keyboards that were popular over 20 years ago and emulating those bands' sounds?

  • LOL! I'm referring to artist being innovative in their creative process, not the music-making process or music industry. If it's new to them and fosters experimentation and creative flow for them, then they are being innovative. If they continue to innovate their creative process, they might very well innovate the music-making industry....

  • lol my ass fool. No one's talking about the 'music industry'.

By all acounts hiting their cocks on the side of a bus might be 'new' to the editors but it could hardly be called real innovation in music without sarcasm.

So take your talk of art and creativity back to Virgin Megastore and spend more of your cash on shite like this.

  • I love that they've incorporated new sounds. Ive been a fan from the beginning. Their sound has always appealed to me. If they'd churned out more guitar led music it would end up samey. The fact they've added synth ugh I couldnt be happier.

  • It's just a wonderful album!!!

    EDITORS Rock!!!

  • I dont quite get where you get fake from? If you dont like electro music fair enough. You're definetly not very open minded when it comes to music then. Its ashame your ipod must be pretty limited.

  • Fake as in, it's all computerized. And don't make assumptions, I am open minded to music and I don't own a iPod.

  • This conversation we're having is as computerized as it gets mate. Does that make it fake? Its just another form of communication like the telephone or a hand written letter. As for music each to their own but calling it fake is a bit off the mark.

  • That's totally different. Music should be created through instruments, not a machine.

  • Synthetic music is played through a keyboard. Which is basicly a piano with a broader range of sounds. Music is created by the performer not by the fans. Having rules like "this should be how its done". Whats the point in it anymore. Its not free.

  • Synthesizers are instruments. Modern ones are perhaps getting a little too easy, but older analogue synths require skill to use. Strings create sound waves, electrical currents can create soundwaves.

  • Actually many newer modular synths are far more complex to use than synths from the 80s.

  • So you hate electric guitars?

  • No, you still USE the thing to make the sounds. Just like you would a normal guitar, it only amplifies the sound.

  • Wrong. They do not only amplify the sound. They change the very nature of the sound. For all intents and purposes once a guitar signal goes through anything it is (in your words) computerized.

Have you ever used distortion effects or a ring modulator on a guitar? Shit probably half the music you like is 'computerized'. You just don't know it.

  • Out of curiosity, why are you so strung up? And no I haven't used either just your normal electric guitar, I don't play it to care.

I guess I have a different definition of computerized to you, I just don't care enough about it like you do to flip out. I'm not saying ALL music that is computerized is shit, I just said MOST. Which most of it is shit. There's balances in music, I like balance.

  • Huh? I thought we were just chatting. Says more about you than it does about me that you thought i was flipping out. Tone down your hyper sensitivity maybe.

But since you brought it up, what is your definition of computerized? Also most music is shit in general, not just 'computerized' music.

  • Computerized as in, not using a instrument to make the songs, instead you use libraries of previously created sounds, stringed along. Or, using a keyboard (For instance) to use the same sound libraries. Instead of using the keyboard for it's actual sound to be saved through the computer, not generated by the computer. I'm not saying they are bad, just overused when they don't need to be. Again, balance.

  • It's only when a band experiments that they get to see what they're capable of and what their limits are. As fans we have no choice but to watch them take that journey. We don't have to join them at every stop. Fans will always jump on and off bandwagons. Many will hang on for the ride. Being a fan is a question of stamina.

I almost wish The Editors would've named this album "All Your Favorite Bands Will Disappoint You At Some Time".

Personally...I put "Papillon" proudly next to "Racing Rats"!

  • Agree 100%. I only have to say this: best analogy ever!

  • no electronics sound please ! There are everywhere now, that's sick ! Piano, guitar, drums and it's all what we need to be happy

  • lol
