I'm of the opinion you don't really know what you're talking about. I've never seen ANY racer treat their dogs the way you've described--quite the opposite, in fact---and racers skills are relevant to save lives in remote locations of Alaska.
CastilloDelLago is full of classic denial. Thats all you will ever hear racing can be a very serious addiction for some. What an awful screw up in civilized bc, such a shame those dogs could have been rehomed. Up north too many dogs not enough homes so they feel justified. Hope dog racing for tourism is banned.
used to live there, Ive seen dogs tied up for days/weeks to chains just giving them 2 feet to move if that. So YAH they wanna RUN!! Farther north yes its a form of transport they depend on the dogs. It can be very hard/harsh racing up north. Vets can be reached my phone but can take days or longer to actually see one depending how remote you are.
Meow you missed the point, I never said let people in Nome die.
Stated I'm opposed to sled dog racing.
In remote places it's very hard for people to access doctors or Vets at all. There is a difference how the inuits 'view treat' their dogs period compared to sled dog racing for sport users in competiton.
As mentioned the care of some of these sled dogs are very cruel. There is alot that you and I are not expected to see.
Great Video Becky. I race sled dogs and paddle- I've seen you in paddling videos, but didnt know your into dogs! Nice Work. Jason Matthews - Livingston, Montana

So you would just let people in remote places like Nome die?
Got news for you, the dogs LOVE it. It is a little hard on the humans, though.

Ummm...exactly what races DON'T have vets working at them to ensure the dogs' health and safety? Certainly NOT the Yukon Quest.
