  • Do you have the original film that this was transferred from? I'm directing a film on Mr. Demura and I would love to be able to use this footage. Thanks

  • @LFFNBF No, I received my copy from Hoosain Narker, Sensei from So. Africa. I believe that my VHS was a copy of another. I do not know who has the original 8 mm film. But if you search the 1975 Long Beach Tournament you may find some shorter cuts that could be clearer. Sorry.

  • Higaonna is SO fast come on @ 4:00??

  • Excellent, thank you for posting. If only we could go back - forward, to perfecting (polishing) the techniques; no matter the style or study be.

  • I knew it was Demura (Shito Ryu). We entered one of his compa at the LA Expo and took loadsa medals! I bough his book on Sai way back, maybe 3 decades ago.

  • It IS Ohtsuka. I saw him in the Uk when he got cut by a sword during a demo @ Crystal Palace (his son fainted!). Higaonna is SO fast on here and its a shame him & Chinen parted ways, they were amazing together & I was privileged 2 train under them. It looked liked Terry O'Neill in action from KUGB. Valera had 1 of my senseis as a ref (Peter Rousseau). I was told it took 2 divisons of the California State police to control the crowd??? Anyhow GREAT footage!

  • Yes, and it is a very young Fumio Demura doing the opening Kobudo demo. Chinen & Higaonna do a nice demo in a later clip.

  • A su edad, en éste video, el Maestro de Maestros, Hironori Othsuka, y su hijo Jiro, demuestra lo experto que es en técnicas de Tanto Dori, y Daito Dori, pues antes que karateka, fue experto en Ju Jitsu. Descanse en Paz Maestro Wado Ryu Karate DO. Via Wado.

  • There is no doubt that it is Hironori Ohtsuka.

  • it is definetely Ohtsuka on 2:02, I'm sure of it

  • Who are the two fighters before the last demo?

  • I think they are Dominique Valera and Antonio Rivera... I think is the infamous figth in which

Valera hit a judge because of the calling of one ippon.... many years after that I saw Toñito Rivera in Monterrey Mexico (but I think he was from Dominican Republic) and I know from some of his classmates that he was never hit from the infuriated Valera who turn to the judge not to Rivera

  • Yep, that is Otsuka, some of the stuff is from the oyo he did for the Nippon Budokai and then some Wado tanto dori

  • That sure looks like Kyuzo Mifune at the 2:00 mark. That can't be though if this is supposed to be filmed in 1975. Still looks like him, and moves like him.

  • No it is definetely Hironori Ohstuka, founder of Wado Ryu

  • Sensei Ohtsuka was 83 years old when this demo took place !!!!

Most people cant even tie their shoelaces at that age

    Respect for the footage

  • He does look like him, doesn't he? Especially the way he moves.
