It is the first time I see someone serve like him, with the non-racket leg in the front. But his preference makes no sense with the other placement of the foot you can also push to both sides -.-'.
Also he should use more thumb than the movement of the arm or everyone will read his serve.
With that placement of the foot his backhand side will be hard to reach.
@bangsnntk i see! I misunderstood. I would still tend to disagree with you however, as a "short" grip gives more feeling and control, and gives quicker reflexes, so many professionals hold this grip when around the net. (Nothing wrong with your english! My mistake!)
@peterdafly how can you guys not understand? You are all complaining about his left leg being forwards on serve? He doesn't have to go to his backhand side ON SERVE! After you serve, you change to right leg forwards or both feet level. He simply serves with left forwards. With regard to using more thumb, i would point out if you have a GOOD low serve, like he does, it doesn't matter if they can read it, because there is nothing they can do with it!
I used to play Badminton on a daily basis about 10 years ago... had an injury in another sport which put me out of action. I'm now a big guy, but I've just started playing again. Do I want to lose weight... sure, but that's not why I play. It's a great sport which I get immense enjoyment from.
For those people who think badminton "isn't for fat people", don't confuse fat with unfit.
his serve is under the waist but the way he holds the bird and his left leg in front is not correct compared to the elite asian badminton dominating countries (indonesia, china, korea, malaysia, etc. But the leg thing might work for him since he probably just takes 1 lunge to get to the front corners, but it should still not as efficient as right leg in front. These are reasons why this guy cant make it past 2nd round at all england.
What is everyone talking about if u are doing a short backhand serve it doesnt matter if your non racket leg is forward plus after u serve u dont just stand there you go into a square stance i serve with my non racket leg forward i find it helps you get net shots more easily it doesn't limit anything its not meant be a detailed serve he's only trying to teach the basics this video is meant for people who dont know how to serve and is made as simple as possible. :D
dis guy has been an elite player/coach in sweden for years and got to the second round in the all englands last year so yere critism is kinda ridiculous. i tink its safe to assume the man can serve

man you guys are two critical...this sport is for lazy people who cant play tennis..Everytime i walk in to a place like this i see over weight people who play this game bc they cant play tennis.. Granted its a fun game to play in High School and with friends but really this is the C league game. The seriousness in this room reminds me of teenagers with POGS, or Pokemon cards...your holding your shuttleCOCK wrong..
if you play tennis and you are not a fat man why dont you try to play badminton? stop saying lies about a sport you do not know! badminton is one of the most complex sports of all time and it is not for fat people that cannot play tennis. and no ! badminton is not inthe league C. you are 30 years old probably and everything you know about badminton is that is played by lazy people . go grab your tiny shuttleCOCK and search about this wonderful sport.
@drudizzle79 You see fat people because they dont take the sport seriously or they are trying to lose weight. Look at the top ranked players.. They are amazingly fit. I play tennis and i'm not even that fit. Its an easy sport.. Badminton is a challenge because you need so much speed and power. You must be able to think faster then your opponent.
2) your racket leg is not front so really if you did that in a real match you wouldn't be able to return the smashes so easily basically you dont have the correct footwork
3) what is with the waist man in a real match considered illegeal
dunno if this person is doing on purpose but really.....
I would recommend you watch this guy playing a match, winning some of the top mens doubles tournaments... He is one of the best doubles players in the world.
His foot position with left forward is only used on serve, so his footwork is in no way impaired, as he pointed out it is about balance.
The waist is perfectly legal, as again he points out, it is his lowest rib that is the "waist".
And finally, whats wrong with a short backhand thumb grip? This is the one every coach teaches.
His serve is legal, the waist rule makes reference to the last rib of the rib cage. Also, like the guy explains having the non-racket leg forward is just a way some players achieve better balance.
oh cmon this guy must be a douchebag, jesus he is serving above the waist and not below the waist and the footwork is wrong too the racket foot must be in front of the non racket foot
I understand with all your like rule book stuff, but as long as it's not like a super overhand smash from the serve, who cares!! the judge guy never marks anyone down for it. He's holding his racquet too far up though he needs to hold it nearer the end to get more power when he's actually playing.
racquet should perpendicular to the ground to avoid having a high short serve unless your intention is to do a higher and longer short/flick serve. Also when executing the backward motion as you hit the "cock", the racquet should be a little bit closer to the body to add more power. A well played serve involves those two that i mentioned.
you can stand anyway that you want really, its about being balanced and ready to play a shot after you serve so being able to move after you serve etc.
It helped me in improving my backhand serve.

@MoohowS No, I mean the postion of his palm where he touch the racket! He should hold the lower part of the handle! (Sry, my English is pretty bad)
