    "Studio Jibly"

    ._.

  • The plot holes....THEY'RE EVERYWHERE!

Kinda liked it but as I said above....EVERYWHERE!

  • Man I got chills just watching this xD I love that movie :3

  • 0:58 looks like Ashitaka from Princess Mononoke ^^

  • the sword handle looks like balls... just had to point that out...

  • still cannot believe they did this movie in 9 months, the animation is amazing,in other areas is not great, but still a nice movie

  • I liked the Earthsea Trilogy, but I never really bothered with Tales From Earthsea.

  • this movie was only good for its awesome animation.

  • has anyone else watched this movie and had no idea what the hell happened at the end? I liked it, don't get me wrong, but I got a distinctly Eragon-ish vibe.

  • @abacongirl

I was confused throughout the whole movie. AND it was depressing.

This is why I bough the book...Haven't gotten far.

  • Many people seem to dislike this film, I rather enjoyed it its worth the watch not the best, but id defiantly not say its the worst film they have done.

  • argh this really bugs me. isn't ghibli's 'gh' pronounced like the gh in "ghost"? because it HAS an h in front of the g >_>

  • @TommittajaFIN

Well from what I understand it's pronounced both 'Geh-heh-blie' and 'Geh-blie'. 'Geh-Heh-blie' doesn't seem right to me [but I've heard it said that way by many people...] so my best guess would be 'Geh-blie'.

  • @TommittajaFIN The Italian word Miyazaki got the name from is pronounced "Gib-lee", but he made a mistake, but he decided to keep it anyway, so the company goes by "Jib-lee". c:

  • @HyperHikari

i really like calling it the way i do :oo oh well. think i'll watch ponyo and maybe this today :pp

  • @TommittajaFIN Eh, it doesn't really matter. xD Ponyo + this movie = Good idea.

  • @HyperHikari

thought so too. you can't really go wrong with ghibli.. ever. after those two.. 10 more ghibli movies and i've seen them all ^^ (well i counted in the 2013 and 2011 ones too)

  • Hayao passed on his talent to his son and WOW even I couldn't tell the difference, the scenery is CRAZY GOOD.

  • WHERE CAN I WATCH THIS *FREAKINGOUT*

  • This was directed by Hayao Miyazaki's son if I'm correct.

  • i wish they did more stuff in this movie....

a bit disappointed but still worth watching it!

  • Wow this looks like a good movie.

  • ...how did I miss this one?

  • But there's one they fear; in their tongue he's Dovakhin, dragonborn!

  • why disney no make bluray release???

  • awesome possom...

  • I saw this the other day.I loved it so much

  • Anyone else read the book?

  • Totally not Eragon in anime form.

  • @ByronDZero This was actually loosely based on a book that came out in 1964, before the author of Eragon was even born.

  • My brother is 10 and he is going through that phase where he is afraid of dying. When I saw this movie I it fell in love with it, I'm going to show it to my brother. I think it explains beautifully the life of humans and why it is death has to come.

  • There was a time.. When humans and dragons were one... but then Skyrim happened..

    FUS RO DAH!

  • @randomizer666 Dammit! I was about to make that joke.

  • I saw this when I was younger like I didn't understand, well time to watch it again, because he killed his father.

  • ah need this movie!! should i buy it offline or check some stores? any comments appreciated :)

  • "Listen to me Arren. No man nor any living thing in this world preserves its life forever. But only to men is it given to know that we must die and that is a precious gift. This life which is both our torment and treasure was never meant to endure for eternity. Life is a wave in the sea. Would you force the entire sea to become still to save one wave? To save yourself?"

  • Quoting LeGuin from her website "Very few authors have any control over the use made of their books by a film studio. The general rule is that once the contract is signed, the author of the books is nonexistent. Such labels as "creative consultant" are meaningless. Please do not hold any writer except the script-writer responsible for anything in a film. Don't ask the book's author "Why did they . . . ?" She is wondering too."

There is very little of the books left in the movie.

  • I wanna to see tales from earth sea

  • ?how have i not watched this?

  • This movie is among my favorite of Studio Ghibli :D

  • oooooooh~ very princes mononoke ish (did i even spell that right???).

  • I love the narrator :)

  • This movie is awesome :D

  • WTH!?! WHEN DID THIS COME OUT IN THEATERS?!?

  • @onesickpuppy97 you stole my sentence! ikr its weird we never see wen its out

  • @onesickpuppy97: It came out in 2006.

  • Why does that young prince remind me soo much of Ashitaka from Princess Mononoke?

  • how come the ratings of this movie was terrible? it won for the worst movie in all time...

    o.O

  • @brianahn0331 I herd it one "worst movie of the year" in Japan, but then again I also saw Howls moving castle was nominated the year that was relised :/

Personally I like the film, the plots mah but the animation more than makes up for it 8D

  • @thebigj3 omg i saw tht too! i was shitting bricks. i thought they were too cruel

but i wasnt to amazed from this movie. im sure it had negative reviews because it was away from the book. i thought it lacked some plots and character. but i was still amazed from the art!

  • @thebigj3 What?! I love Howl's Moving Castle and I never heard of anyone who hated the movie! How could that one be nominated for "Worst Movie of the year?!" I never saw Tales of Earthsea, but I really want to, so I can't say much for it.

  • @fanime1: Howl's Moving Castle did VERY well in Japan and it made $231.7 million worldwide making it one of the most financially successful Japanese films in history. Howls moving Castle was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature at the 78th Academy Awards in 2006. What @thebigj3 said was rumors.

  • @Eternalsummersong That makes more sense. Thanks. :D BTW, I love you icon! It's so kawaii! X3

  • @fanime1: You're welcome and thank you. ^_^

  • @thebigj3: Howls moving castle went on to gross $231.7 million worldwide, making it one of the most financially successful Japanese films in history. The film was subsequently dubbed into English by Pixar's Peter Docter and distributed in North America by Walt Disney Pictures.Cont...

  • @thebigj3: It received a limited release in the United States and Canada beginning June 10, 2005 and was released nationwide in Australia on September 22 and in the UK the following September. The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature at the 78th Academy Awards in 2006. Howls Moving Castle did very well. Tales from Earthsea wasn't the worst movie of the year.

  • @thebigj3: Also for some odd reason the movie Tales from Earthsea is inspired by Hayao Miyazaki's manga The Journey of Shuna.

  • You now realize that the hilt of his sword looks like a dildo.

  • BOOKS ARE MUCH BETTER

  • Who agrees that the prince kinda looks like Percy Jackson?!

  • They used spirited away and "ponyo" as examples? Ponyo imho certainly shouldnt be a movie they keep in the light. It wasnt very good.

  • I need to watch this!!

  • Happy Birthday to Goro Miyazaki :D

  • i enjoyed the movie. spoiler alert why did prince arren kill his dad?

  • @SuperGrandmother3

    *spoiler*

The explanation of it as committed by his "dark shadow".

Why does he has shadow? because he fears death(if i remember)

Why shadow kill him? Nobody knows.Thats movie messages is : evil does bad thing like killing i guess.

Explications are not clear but movie is like that.

As i read the book, i regrets director made a different plot, lacking in coherence and consistency

  • :/ The movie didn't make much sense when I watched it... but the animation was good.

  • Search for: "La Colline aux Coquelicots" in YouTube for the new Studio Ghibli film coming out, it's real title is "From Kokuriko Hill ", it's just the French have a really good trailer out for it.

  • Wow, I can't get this watch this because the McDonalds ad won't load.. -.-

  • I knew this movie reminded me of something. (Ponyo and the new movie coming out Arrietty)

  • Wow. You guys do know many film studios distribute films for other studios all the time right? Whether it's because of being in foreign markets or a larger company distributing for a smaller company. And the dub is there for those who prefer hearing it in their own language yes, as well as, for the children but home copies also provide the original Japanese voice acting for you. Your whining is pointless.

  • @Sanimangas The dubbing is very good especially compared to earlier movies! When I saw Ponyo in theaters they did a beautiful job with dubbing. Even if the dubbing was horrible (like it was in the movie Gantz) I would still love it. Yes their movies will always be better in Japanese but these movies attract a lot of young children and they need to be in english so kids can understand. Also not all Americans think we are the best at everything cuz I definately know we aren't.

  • I don't give a fuck about whether the dubs are shitty or not, I love studio ghibli films either way, i've been watching them since I was young and I still watch them now.

  • IDFUCKING CARE DISNEY YOU MUTHER FUCKER PUTTING YOUR NAME ON EVERYTHING TO MAKE MONEY AND MAKE SHITTY DUBS AND OVERPRICE THE FUCK OUT OF THEM

FUCK YOU DISNEY FOR STEALING TLK FROM TEZUKA AND MIYAZAKI'S WORK WITHOUT THEIR CONSENT OR EVEN ADMITTING IT

  • @Sanimangas dude you're an idiot, i'm not even going to bother repeating what mogumogumagic said, just look at the most liked comment, it's there for a reason

  • @Disembodyed

There were many dubs distributed before disney and they were taken seriously and not disneyfied and ruined.

    What are you a disneylover?

  • @Sanimangas 1. yes i do love a lot of disney movies, 2. why wouldn't you want to find a well known and liked distributor if you wanted to sell your product in a foreign market? it's not like they wrote disney on some duck tape and put it over the studio ghibli logo.

  • @Disembodyed

Have you ever compared disney dubs? There are so horrible in every way. If I was Miyazaki, I wouldn't want my hard work to get fucked up. It's also the fault of American society, thinking that everything we do is the best and we have such biased opinions that we wouldn't care for other cultural movies like Miyazaki. And their lack of literacy, refusing to watch subs, or even read a book. Only reasons Ghibli chose disney.

  • @Sanimangas Spirited Away and Arrietty (UK version) are the only English Ghibli dubs I've really enjoyed...

  • @Sanimangas either way im not gonna bother arguing with you you're clearly the type of person if i gave you irrefutable proof you would still think you're right

  • @Sanimangas cool story bro

    Tell it again

  • Did he really just say an **epic** adventure? xD

  • like like like !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • saw it and loved it! :)

  • Anyone else notice on SparrowHawk's hood theres a Unknown?

  • This movie is amazing. So full of emotion.. and the animations and screenplay are just breathtaking ...I almost cried at the part where Therru sang her song ..

  • its funny because I watched this a long time ago all on youtube

  • As a huge fan of both Studio Ghibli and the Earthsea book series (by Ursula K LeGuin in case you want to read them) this was so disappointing in so many ways. I was so excited for them to have made a movie about the books I loved, but this is nothing like them, and wasnt good on its own either. :(

  • this movie is on netflix!

  • i love studio ghibli. though i think this isn't the best, it's still one of the better ones. goro miyazaki is juz starting out, give him a chance!

  • the sword looks like a dick n balls

  • @leicam2113 Oh thanks now i'll never be able to watch thids film in the same way again :P

  • @thebigj3 no prob lol ;D

  • This movie looks too.. uhm, what's the right word.. "disney-ish"?

I don't know why but the animation reminds me of Avatar The Last Airbender though..

  • @ZulKoji that's because THIS animation and avatar BOTH come from Japan. An anime type film.

  • @RawrStyle0 Lawl, you don't understand. It looks like it's the SAME creator but it's NOT!

  • @RawrStyle0: The series was created and produced by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, who served as executive producers along with Aaron Ehasz. Avatar is set in an Asian-influenced world wherein some are able to manipulate the classical elements by use of Chinese martial arts. The show combined the styles of anime and American cartoons, and relied for imagery upon various East-Asian, Inuit, and South-American societies, with a brief reference to the Indic. Avatar wasn't an anime.

  • @RawrStyle0: The Avatar series is actually a venture between both the US and Korea I believe I have the collectors addition of the first box set. They wanted it to look anime like so they got some help. The story is made by the US though proving there are still good cartoon here.

  • compared to spirited away this looks like @*&$&(

  • i love studio ghibli, but this is there worst movie

  • I missed this earlier on Film4. Ughh.

  • The song about the hawk that she sings in the movie almost made me cry.

  • this movie was so terrible oh dog

  • I always thought that Ursula's books should be made into an animated film.

  • 0:28.. reminds me of Ashitaka and Yakul from Princess Mononoke. Is this movie good?

  • Disney can lick a dick.

  • I'm SO happy that this film can FINALLY be available in the US now! Can't wait to get it and watch it again (I watched the entire film, or most of it, at least, on Youtube a few years ago. It was dubbed in English, but wasn't available in the US at the time but in the UK instead).

  • was it necessary to have the dress of the little girl blow up so we can see her ass?

  • @CaveofTwoLovers she's wearing pants..

  • Want something that's actually heartwarming instead of this movie. Read about the story about Hayao's and Goro's rift behind the movie and what happened after the movie was released. Japan tore that movie apart. Hayao and his son didn't have a great relationship before and during its production. Even Hayao was skeptical of Goro's abilities. Hayao unexpectantly came to see his son's movie and wrote to his son "I liked it." And Goro cried.

  • @AliaSparrow Oh yeah, then Hayao poured his heart out to create Ponyo. Just to apologize for his son.

  • @AliaSparrow different culture.. higher expectations.. its understandable. especially trying to live up to that man

  • @hobocan22 But Goro never did live up to our expectations. Maybe Goro didn't live up to Hayao's expectations in a way. Hayao probably just wanted his son to know that he was proud of Goro nonetheless. Writing Ponyo was Hayao's way of saying "I love you, my son, please forgive me."

  • @AliaSparrow oh i see hm it sounds like your comment is better than the movie (if that makes sense) i wanna read what you talking about link me?

  • @project0omega Wasn't really trying to sound superior for I do respect Goro's dedication, but the story can be found in Goro's Blog on nausicaa.net, in the Prologue of the blog and the reference to Hayao's reaction to Goro's film is found on Page 112.

  • @AliaSparrow I do have to revise my comment a little, Hayao wrote "It was made honestly. It was good."

And Hayao moved on to make Ponyo for his son.

  • @AliaSparrow I thought this was the worst Studio Ghibli movie ever made. The books may have been good. Perhaps if it was made into a miniseries or something it could have been much better.

  • @WlNDMlLL As far as the Ghibli's movie I've ever seen, it is the weakest to me (I never even read the books). It's does seem to have an intriguing plot at the start but it slows down and there are really contrived moments that attempts to bring wonder.

  • @AliaSparrow I agree completely. I also felt that the dialogue and English acting was sub-par. Especially when you compare it to movies like Howl's Moving Castle. The caste in that movie was INCREDIBLE. Though, now that I think about it, pretty much every Studio Ghibli film I've ever seen has had at least one Grade-A actor. At least one. Besides this one, of course!

  • @AliaSparrow ouch... really?

  • How to get top comment for this video:

    1) Spaz out about how awesome Studio Ghibli/Hayao Miyazaki/etc. is.

    2) Rant about Disney sinking its corporate claws into a beautiful piece of work.

    3) Complain about how boring the movie is and/or how Miyazaki's son shouldn't have made it.

    4) Argue with people about their opinion.

  • I almost fell asleep. Its better with English subs and Original Japanese VA. Ugh, English actors ruin the movie. =[

  • @zeldamistoffelees ok. actually i just found out that i watched it in france when i was really little... i guess ill just watch it again. oh and this is graffiti alchemyst, but im using a different account.

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!! gah!!! Thought there might not be many more films from Studio Ghibli. So glad Goro is following in his father's footsteps. This looks great :D Is this based on the books by Ursula Le Guin?

  • this movie was ok

    what's the book like?

  • My god this movie is so boring 40 mins in I had to turn it off.

  • @pokeclaudel ha glad i wasnt the only one. i thought ut was gonna be about a cool battle between dragons and swords and stuff. but its mostly about the kid complaing and being a coward and ends up being a farmer.

  • @pokeclaudel

what was so boring about it?

i havent watched it yet and i want someones opinion on it b4 i do.

so yah.. y was it so boring?

  • @GraffitiAlchemyst I don't know what pokeclaudel found so boring about the movie but I guess I'll throw my two cents in.

Personally I loved the movie, though I will say it is a bit slow. However if you can get through it all the way once I'm sure you'll like it. It is really a beautiful and amazing movie. :) I hope you give it a chance, for me it was life changing.

  • teh girl has my friends haircut! >3< ps i LOVED the movie

  • YouTube world: Hey, nice cartoon and stuff. Okay let's argue now!

  • @HughWalenski

    Thems fightin' words.

    put em up.

  • skyrim

  • Why does no one give credit to the novels its based off of and just to

    Goro Miyazaki?

  • Hayao Miyazaki's son does not have the talent like father.

He is an animator of the regular.

  • people listen up! ponyo, spirited away, and this film was distributed by Disney, which means they have also contributed in letting people know how wonderful Japanese work is, especially if its made of Hayao Miyazaki, and this is through translating it in a language people understands. right? so pls dont get mad of placing disney's name in the movie after all they deserve it. if you were to make a movie i guess you would also want your name to be placed right? Hayao, agreed on this. why can't u?

  • @MoguMoguMagic Umm...It's directed by Goro Miyazaki--not Hayao.

  • @BluebirdsCircle LOL!!!! thank you for letting m know. :)

  • @MoguMoguMagic No problem! Cause it totally doesn't say that in the trailer.

  • Want this anime :D

  • I love how everyone gets the same narrator who sounds like he needs to hack something up.

  • Could the narrator speak any slower???

  • im drooling

  • is this based on the book though?

  • @Aynotan loosely. People who have read the book tend to be disappointed....especially since it's, like, five books mashed into one.

  • what i like best about ghibli films is the beautiful 2d animation

  • @arcopizzicato agreed and then the stupid Disney Animation Studios decide to make CGI shit :) leave that to Pixar!!

  • the narrator makes this anime movie look bad why does disney have to put a narrationn in most of the anime films?

  • Man. This movie is already below average for a Ghibli production (though I still like it). This cheesy trailer makes it look worse than it is. I mean, come on: "Tales... from Earthsea!" "Share the adventures... of a powerful wizard... and a young prince... as they journey... on an epic adventuurre." Urgh.

  • is goro miyasaki, brother of hayao miyasaki?

  • @lupeymn

nope, he is Hayao Miyazakis first son:)

  • I honestly think this was the worst Studio Ghibli film. I'm a huge fan of Studio Ghibli and I was really excited to watch this when it came on tv. This was a big disappointment. It's easy to tell when Hayao Miyazaki directs, and when his son directs. The story was all over the place, went extremely slow, and was really a snooze fest.

  • @SakuraXAngelXorXnot Stop hating, sure alot of details were missing (was kinda lost in alot of the stuff) but that shit was pretty crazy; This movie was the shit.

  • @EdSoCeRiAl That's YOUR opinion and I'll stick to mine.

  • @SakuraXAngelXorXnot and it doesn't even begin to compare with the awesomeness of the books.

  • *sigh* i had hopes for this movie, ive watched it twice and both times i get disappointed. i mean... it's okay. there is just too much subject matter and not enough explanation... his father did sort of the same thing in howl's moving castle, but it was done better, with more sense and i love that movie. but with this one, it was just all over the place and everything is sort of made to be cool and mysterious but it just comes off as lame...

  • The quality is amazing!

  • I'm very disappointed with Disney, they put their name his films it to make it look like its their movie, but in fact they only translated it. in my opinion(and in opinion to many i know) Disney should not have their name anywhere on the front cover of Miyazaki's works.

  • @GeekNiNj4 dude Disney's its own mafia. they've done a lot of stuff they shouldn't be doing and have taken over a lot of things, they even have their own manga in Japan it's crazy

  • @GeekNiNj4 actually its disney that keeps ghibli up and running. ghibli gave news last year or so that if their movies do not appeal more on american viewers they will close heir doors and make no more movies, but he fact that disney has once again adapted "The borrower arietty" means that they will continue making more movies so be thankful of disney because for them, we will enjoy more of studio ghibli films

  • @GeekNiNj4

...even Funimation puts their names in the beginning of trailers. I don't mind, I'm just grateful they(Disney) don't make any changes to the actual film when they bring it over to the US.

  • @GeekNiNj4 Disney owns the distribution rights for all Studio Ghibli films in North America.

  • @GeekNiNj4 Think about it this way, Disney is doing all of the translating of the script, the dubbing, and they have to release it as a region 1 DVD so it can be played on American dvd players, so I think it's ok for them to say "disney presents a Goro miyazaki/studio ghibli film"
