i guess it was a RCHP album, i mean i barely like them anymore but yeah. the thing that got me listening to rock all day was Toxicty by system of a down.
And query 2: I honestly cant answer because I've been into rock for as long as I can remember. My brother is always listining to the music I love today. But my FIRST album I got was Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness - by Smashing Pumpkins. My favorite band =)
I have two different answers: Metal I was pulled in at a young age by godsmack and system of a down. Listened to heavy shit as a child.
Rock: i didn't fucking know rock existed until about age twelve, the day I heard welcome to the jungle by guns n roses and listened to appetite for destruction hundreds of time, found metallica, found Motley Crue, then everything exploded from Crue. The day I went to Cruefest my life changed. Didn't even know iron man was a real song until about age thirteen.
Pink Floyd's Delicate Sound of Thunder... the 1st album I picked off my parent's shelf because it was a double album and caught my attention... ohh how astonished I was when I popped that in my CD player at age 7
starting album: weird choice but I remember listening to NIN's The Downward Spiral at nine or ten years old and after hearing Mr. Self-Destruct, I liked rock music haha. I owe you one reznor;)
q1: Coheed and Cambria - Welcome Home. best constructed riff of the decade. it will get them royalty money for years because tv shows and movies will continue to use it.
q2 System of a Down Self-titled. I had to be like 10 when it came out but my older brother blasting it in his room is what got me into rock music.
Q1: Plug in Baby certainly deserves first place. I can't think of any other more memorable riff that defines a song and the is so uniquely structured into a song. Maybe that's why Muse is the biggest rock band of today and probably the last BIG world rock band. Second place for me would probably be seven Nation Army. All the other riffs aren't so unique and all have a similar structure.
Q2: And the album that got me into rock music is Muse's live recording from the 2007 Wembley Stadium, HAARP.
Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes. Jack White is an Effing genius enough said. I thank Radiohead everytime I listen to Kid A for making such a masterful album. 10 years later this album still takes my breath away. But the album that got me into rock music was... all of the ones I listened to. There are too many great artists who helped me get into music.
ive always liked rock wasnt my favorite type of music guns and roses helped with that but the album that made rock my favorite genre was Resistence by MUSE
and... I sort of grew up with by brothers and sister playing Chili Peppers, Oasis, Foo Fighters etc. Albums... But i guess the one i remember the most is Californiacation.
I've become an avid Pumpkins listener thanks to Ava Adore (the song), Mellon Collie quickly became my fave album ever and from that i started exploring all that is ROCK!
album that got me into rock: proper album was gnr greatest hits (i then learned that axl's a dick). but it was a demo tape from my unsigned uncle that got me interested. he came over from england for a holiday told me all about rock i got a demo off him and he inspired me to learn guitar and made me the kid i am today. he is extremely talented and must be signed if there is justice in this world
TBH, Plug In baby's riff isn't all that "omg it's incredible", but then I'm not a Journalist, so my opion doesn't matter. XD It's good I'll grant you. Just not that good. Plus, Muse do have better riffs than that. Just saying, that's all
Best Riff? Very hard to decide. I actually can't think of one right off the top of my head. I could be here for days! I'll have to get back to you on that one.
No album, but In The End (Linkin Park), Aerials (SOAD), Falling Inside the Black (Skillet), Bring Me To Life (Evanescence), and Follow (Breaking Benjamin) got me into this good music.
query 1: cant stop by rhcp and nothing to say by slash feat m.shadows(intro riff)
query2: californication by the red hot chili peppers is what got me into rock music. then i found out of exile by audioslave in my parents room and listened to that all the time to so i guess those to got me into rock music.
@RockItOutBlog You do know that Linkin Park's "A Thousand Suns" is compared to "Kid A" right? So it's very strange that you like Kid A but not A Thousand Suns...
yeah, I was kind of into music for a while, but then I heard the album We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank by modest mouse and realized music was something to be passionate about, not just for heavy guitar riffs and catchy lyrics. It also got me into radiohead which happens to be the coolest band EVAR!!!
i cant really think of any good riffs the last 10 years, but i can most definitely say that ACDC- back in black has the best (or most recognizable) riff there is.
Query 1: No I agree Plug In Baby is the best riff of the last decade, Seven Nation Army being in a close second
Query 2: Its kinda funny but I got into rock music around the same time as you, but for me the album was The Red Hot Chili Peppers Californication. It will forever hold a spot in my heart, and being my gateway album
Honestly, this might sound sad/shameful but I honestly want to say what got me in to rock music was the game Guitar Hero 3. I know, see growing up I never owned very many CDs most of the music I listened to was whatever was on the radio at the time. I do remember listening to RHCP a little in the early 00s (now one of my favorite bands!) But up until that game I mainly listened to rap, and mainstream rap at that. I have seen the error of my ways and now my life kinda revolves around rock!
after thinking it through i'm gonna refine my comment from yesterday the best guitar riff in the last 10 years is Deciple by SLAYER from GOD HATES US ALL that riff just kicks ass just ask Henry Rollins he works out to that song
i don't really know which album got me into rock music. i pretty much grew up with the beatles, the stranglers, supertramp, warren zevon and a whole bunch of really weird 80s rock and roll albums, so maybe... Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band? I remember when I was 4, my favourite song was lovely rita. :)
BEAST RIFF_ Iron Maiden out of the silent planet, after the versus when the guitar plays the same melody as Bruce's singing "out of the silent planet, out of the silent planet we are"
The record that got me into rock... laugh or not, but Shine On by JET. I still love it. The record that got me into rock for a second time over would be Lullabies to Paralyze by QOTSA.
Hmm... for a riff, Plug in Baby is really good and I think under rated BUT.... and I love Muse, but maybe not the best of 10 years. What riff is? Don't ask me that, theres a lotta good ones.
Plug in Baby is the best guitar riff, not for the past decade but just forever, how would you think of it i mean dude Matt Bellamy is a genius !!!!!!!!!!!!! And Muse - Absolution / Radiohead - Pablo honey both of these albums were passed on my my dad and i frickin loved them !!!!!!!
Oh yeah and albums that introduced me to rock music would be Bon Jovi (Slippery When Wet), yes it's true I was very young - but then proper introduction was through The Stone Roses.
For my favourite riffs of the last ten years I have a few, can't split them, it would be unfair to choose the best - Aisha by Death in Vagas, Last Day Of Magic by The Kills, Better To Be by Liam Finn, Scarecrows On A Killer Slant by Liars, You Losin' Out by Two Gallants, Black Math by The White Stripes, House of Cards and Weird Fishes by Radiohead!

Hmm... for a riff, Plug in Baby is really good and I think under rated BUT.... and I love Muse, but maybe not the best of 10 years. What riff is? Don't ask me that, theres a lotta good ones.
