There is alot of hatred of the fith gear presenters here. Im not a fan of the show however people need to respect that three of the presenters are actual racing drivers. I remember when tiff used to be on top gear doing 200 meter powerslides in BMW M5's before drifting was even invented. Credit where its due these people know what a good car is and definatly know what there doing
If you had any common sence, you would had bought a Honda NSX, a Mazda RX7 or a Porsche 944 Turbo over any Ferrari. But then ofcours, people with common sence don't buy supercars. A Ferrari is a car you just buy in a heart beat. If you can afford one at least. ;)
Did Fifth Gear, Top Gear or anyone do a review of a 288 GTO? That is the one and only Ferrari I'd ever buy. It's got the beautiful curves of the 308 but the extra driving lights and lower, wider stance makes it look angry! And it's simply gorgeous!
Beeroosterm, you just don't get it. No matter what, a Ford will always be a ford, no matter how much power it has. Thats like teenagers who think that modified civics are better than Ferrari's because they can out drag them. Do you know what the most expensive, most exclusive Ferrari there is? The 1962 250 GTO, with only 300 hp. If anything, buying a new Ferrari is for the poseur who has money. The older classic Ferrari is for the true Ferrari fan who wants it for the car, NOT to show off.
Completely agree. Ferrari is one of the few car makers that still "gets it". They know how to make something that is not only fun to drive but great to look at. The Testarossa is a masterpiece. Comparing it to a Ford is like comparing a Van Gogh to the guy who draws the toons on a Rice Crispies box.
@forzajaymz Yep, a Ford will always be a Ford, genius. That a $29,000 Mustang can outpower and outmaneuver a 20 year old Ferrari that cost $220,000 (1995 512 M) is something that should not be scoffed at. And your comment about the "true Ferrari fan" is bullshit. Most classic Ferraris are trailer queens; rarely driven due to their absurd collector value. No, the true Ferrari guys are the ones who drive them as often as possible - the TR's, etc.
@762SLR762 And of course, anybody who owns one 20 year old TR obviously doesn't have the money for a new one. You desperately want to be a member of the club but cannot afford the admission price. You're a poseur, and hope the members won't kick you out, but really, they laugh at you behind your back. Hell, in 20 years you'll be able to drive a 458.
@762SLR762 Just looked at Hemmings Motor News for TR's. There's 13 of them, the cheapest being a very low mile (just 3855) for an asking price of 49,950. Why don't you sell yours for your claimed $100,000 value, pocket the $50,000, and have a "brand new" unit with almost enough money to "sort it out", like all proper Ferraris?
@762SLR762 On the contrary, it is you who very obviously does not understand the argument. And I'm tiring of reminding you of it. The point I was making was that OBJECTIVELY, the Ferrari loses out to the Mustang. Technology of more pedestrian cars is now such that a "plasticy" Ford can stomp your precious TR in any objective measure of performance. And it isn't a tenth of a second, bub. Doesn't matter to you, as snob appeal is obviously your only concern. Testarossas are now cheap - and slow...
@762SLR762 Objective facts do not appear to interest you. You're just a car snob who thinks the purchase of a Ferrari entitles you to your own facts - but if you weren't such a propagandist for a particular point of view, you might learn to appreciate the finer qualities of something that would put your very ordinary Ferrari on the trailer. And of course, any true Ferrari collector considers the TR the Chevy of Ferraris...
@762SLR762 I defined "surpassed" in my original email, declaring "I'd bet anything a new Mustang would smoke that Testarossa around any track", after which you became offended and began name-calling. That a "plastic pile of crap" can beat your "well-sorted thoroughbred" at everything except snob appeal clearly offends your sense of propriety. It does not change facts, however, and you should get used to being beaten up by a turn-key ponycar while you continue to "sort out" your thoroughbred...
@762SLR762 Keep laughing, homo - it doesn't change the facts. The Testarossa is an old car that has now been surpassed by far more pedestrian vehicles. That a $29,000 factory Ford "plastic pile of wallowing shit" can put your precious Italian also-ran in it's mirrors with ease both on the street and racetrack must cause your vagina to run dry. That you still have one (if you have one) confirms your poseur status as well.
@762SLR762 No one is bursting into tears. What's interesting is you do not respond to the objective facts - you just make an emotional appeal to aesthetics, which is more characteristically female. Or gay. I'm guessing it's the latter. And I would argue there is nothing timeless or classic about the Testarossa, especially considering they made over 10,000 of them and you can pick one up for forty grand these days. Fish in a barrel, homo....
@762SLR762 I'd compare it objectively, you elitist douchebag. And as for objective numbers, the Mustang kills it in every category: Testarossa: 0-60 mph, 5.2 sec; 0-110, 11.4; 1/4 mile, 13.5 sec; skidpad, 0.88. 2011 Mustang: 0-60, 4.3 sec; 0-100, 10.3; 1/4 mile 12.8; skidpad, 0.94. They're about the same aerodynamically (0.36 Cd), so top speeds would be fairly identical. Testarossa beats Mustang for snob and cheap Italian whore appeal. Wish someone would do a real-life comparison.
@beeroosterm That's nice and all, but the Ferrari is getting close to 30 years old. Yes, a new mustang GT or Boss or Shelby or whatever the top spec model is these days might be faster. Who cares? The Testarossa did it probably before you were born.
@AntiIgnorantDimwit Not all of us can afford the admission price of a Ferrari. And frankly, given the choice between a brand new 412 hp Mustang at $29,000 and a Ferrari of the same price, the choice is obvious - except to those like yourself, who fool themselves into thinking a 20 year-old Ferrari somehow has more class regardless of its performance, which nowadays is equaled by a Chevrolet Caprice.
@1979jondam Yes, I guess so. But owning one that old is not a mark of class - it's the mark of a wannabe. Anybody who can afford one will always have a relatively new model; the dregs go to those who want but cannot have the latest/greatest. And I'm guessing the used market is taking a bigger hit than most might suspect.
@beeroosterm Thats true, there are some old ones worth having and some not. My boss has a 458 and thats a car but he only drives it now and again He drives his 03 m3 bmw everyday
@1979jondam I used to have a Porsche 928 S4 and drove it all the time but it made me insane when something broke. And I was always worried about theft, scratches, etc. If you cannot afford an exotic car, don't buy one. If you can, drive the fucking wheels off of it!
my apology, I did not mean to say that the Pink Floyd are shitty. the point I was trying to make is when you have such an engine to listen to you have to give it your undivided attention. the same goes with music otherwise you run the risk of not fully appreciating any of those. When I go to Le Mans classic I do not wear a headset playing music.and when I go to a concert I do not carry with me soundtrack of my 911 engine . that all I am trying to say.
