Pessimists.... sorry for u guys and gals. Upmost in expression of mind with outhaving to stab some one or put on freaky costumes. Don't get me wrong, I can do a Rob Zombie, Franks Zappa or Marylin Manson concert any day... THIE CHURCH help me express myself when I am tired of the BLASTING IN MY EARS and still need to feel like I have I life to live. Sorry You never heard of them. IF U just relax.. maybe U may actually like them and relate. TY CHURCH>>> need a link to your site to PAY you!
I read The Church did a LOT of drugs during their heyday (Starfish, Gold Afternoon Fix, Priest=Aura, all excellent albums). Opium was the choice during recording of this one. I'm not a strong proponent of hard drugs in the studio, but it's amazing how many great rock albums are born of them...and how many great bands are killed by them.
I always thought The Church could have been big if they had had more support from their label after "Starfish". They lost their momentum with "Gold Afternoon Fix" because of fights with the label over production/promotion. It's a shame. "Priest = Aura" is an EXCELLENT album, though.
Hear what God of Israel YAHUSHUA-YAHUWAH (Son and Father are ONE) saying to our generation by His chosen prophets: Trumpetcallofgodonline. com ; Letter called "Purify Your Faith, and Come to the Father as It is Written": EXCERPT: "Only in the Bible and through these very Letters, of which I have given to My prophet of the end of this age, shall you find Him and know Him."
The Church was Verve before Verve - and leagues of Brit-bands that all have mirrors of this sound wrapped up in their music without even really knowing it. The guitar work from this band is deep, complex, and broody and the lyrics are even better (though not always delivered professionally). How they are so ignored is confounding to me....but maybe thats for the best.
@blarson12 i've been misunderstood: i think there's much much more than Myrrh to discover from this band.you could begin by a compilation or the Starfish (1988) album for example.
@froggynick My copy of starfish disappeared in the sands of time along with priest = aura, spring hill fair, 10 to 1 and more besides. Thank god 4 youtube, I'm off to find more images of annette shun wah. Wot ever became of her?
@froggynick I hear two sides to the Church. Anything from the first album up to Gold Afternoon Fix, thats one, and the rest gets a little darker, the lyrics more clever. I love this band to death. The third side, lol, is the solo works by all of them. Marty, Steve, and Peter have been prolific. Check out, also, Steve Kilbey and Martin Kennedy, All About Eve(Marty on Guitar), Noctorum(Marty and friends), Theres so much more to this band. Steves books, paintings, and blogs. Try Hologram of Baal.
@AudiophileTubes Well i'm not going to lose sleep over it. So it seems like your the one thats losing sleep over me not giving a shit about this band... numbnuts. : -)=
Definitely one of my all time favorite CDs. Beyond amazing. I can put this CD away for a few years, break it out again and it sounds as good as the first time! The Church will be in Atlanta in Feb. of 2011... The show is so worth it, I'm even taking my ex-wife to the show! Damn... there's a song in there somewhere.....
@ElYot66 "Broken like a wreck in cold gray sea, like you were a ripple in my memory." Brilliant. Why this didn't become a bigger hit, I'll never know.
@PereMarquette1225 It wasn't a huge hit, but Rage played it quite a lot, and so did Triple J - so it got some good exposure... Though I agree - the song deserved more air time. As did the songs from Priest = Aura. :)
I agree... ... very underrated... what a classic band, so deep , so intense sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo magical ,I ove the church, no one can make such a music .
its such a pity their videos were not produced with more omphh!!! and some more thought. Tantalised is probably the only exception. Stylistically the videos let down the music. Easy was another that almost hit the mark. I think their record company really let these guys down. Such a talented band. Love the music never the less.
My favourite band. Love this vid. musically & visually. First record I ever bought was 'Of Skins & Hearts' , lucky to have seen the Church live countless times in Sydney in '80s & '90s. Such an amazing band, (esp. live, with those cascading guitars washing over you!) So great to see all the old vids again.
Forget Yourself: One of the all-time great albums; Accessible, Rockin' , Confident, Assured-from a band with a history of greatness. They make it seem so easy...
The Last Band in the world with that Beatle Magic!
They will always be more than just a Ripple in my memory.
Marty: THANKS for talking to us after The Church and MW-P
shows at American Music Hall, San Francisco! Daughter Sara Still Stunned...!
Overall.....30 years of high quality intelligent music..... have to be the best band ever. And I mean 'ever'. Beatles, Stones, Doors, Police, Nirvana, Chilli Peppers. The lot.
priest aura a real masterpiece for people who understand about pop Music. Priest Aura is the best record of the 90´s and a masterpiece ! And this song is simply awesome like all the record.
Totally agree with you. Its a shame how this band is not getting the attention it deserves. The Church is not just an 80s band as the group continues to create beautiful music whether people buy/listen to their albums or not. Talk about being a true indie band.
I like that the church is an underrated band because they are only for people with knowledge on quality pop music . And this record is a masterpiece ! Hello from spain . The church are amongst the greats .... They are as good or better than U2 or The Cure in fact They only as good as The Smiths IMHO
The Church would most probably hate to hear you say the term pop as they made themselves sound psychedelic and they are actually classified psychedelic

Kilbey uses the term space rock and big influences like early Bowie, Trex and Hawkwind.
Actually some of his recent vocal work sounds at times like Bowie.
See his Time Being blog and if you've got heaps of time read it from the start. WOW.
