  • Pessimists.... sorry for u guys and gals. Upmost in expression of mind with outhaving to stab some one or put on freaky costumes. Don't get me wrong, I can do a Rob Zombie, Franks Zappa or Marylin Manson concert any day... THIE CHURCH help me express myself when I am tired of the BLASTING IN MY EARS and still need to feel like I have I life to live. Sorry You never heard of them. IF U just relax.. maybe U may actually like them and relate. TY CHURCH>>> need a link to your site to PAY you!

  • I read The Church did a LOT of drugs during their heyday (Starfish, Gold Afternoon Fix, Priest=Aura, all excellent albums). Opium was the choice during recording of this one. I'm not a strong proponent of hard drugs in the studio, but it's amazing how many great rock albums are born of them...and how many great bands are killed by them.

  • I always thought The Church could have been big if they had had more support from their label after "Starfish". They lost their momentum with "Gold Afternoon Fix" because of fights with the label over production/promotion. It's a shame. "Priest = Aura" is an EXCELLENT album, though.

  • @acidjack73 Of course, I also suspected that they didn't give a damn about being big.

  • this is good stuff!

  • Mirh was their only good song. Its sad how most bands are recognized only by their one hit wonders.

  • The Church was Verve before Verve - and leagues of Brit-bands that all have mirrors of this sound wrapped up in their music without even really knowing it. The guitar work from this band is deep, complex, and broody and the lyrics are even better (though not always delivered professionally). How they are so ignored is confounding to me....but maybe thats for the best.

  • fuckin' mtv USED TO rule... *sigh*

    i want my 90s back!!!

  • I'd like so much if there were "Feel" and "Swan lake" on tube, too!

  • The Church? I grew up in the 80s and love 80s music, but i never heard of The Church.

  • @blarson12

too bad for you my friend but you know they have never been really mainstream or very popular.

  • @froggynick That appears to be true. Oh well the only song i like from them is Myrrh anyway so i didn't really miss much.

  • @blarson12 i've been misunderstood: i think there's much much more than Myrrh to discover from this band.you could begin by a compilation or the Starfish (1988) album for example.

  • @froggynick Thanks but no thanks.

  • @froggynick Or Seance [1983] !

  • @froggynick My copy of starfish disappeared in the sands of time along with priest = aura, spring hill fair, 10 to 1 and more besides. Thank god 4 youtube, I'm off to find more images of annette shun wah. Wot ever became of her?

  • @froggynick I hear two sides to the Church. Anything from the first album up to Gold Afternoon Fix, thats one, and the rest gets a little darker, the lyrics more clever. I love this band to death. The third side, lol, is the solo works by all of them. Marty, Steve, and Peter have been prolific. Check out, also, Steve Kilbey and Martin Kennedy, All About Eve(Marty on Guitar), Noctorum(Marty and friends), Theres so much more to this band. Steves books, paintings, and blogs. Try Hologram of Baal.

  • @sdlvoodoo Also, with headphones! It doesn't matter what decade. Some bands just have material that isn't dated. Priest=Aura for example.

  • Where have you been. They were not on the radio, but at least you found them now :)

  • @seraparnell Yeah well i'm a late bloomer. I'm just now starting to enjoy 80s music again. Such a great vibe back then.

  • @blarson12 Your loss.

  • @AudiophileTubes My loss!? WTF are you talking about!?

  • @blarson12 Your loss for never hearing of them numbnuts.

  • @AudiophileTubes Well i'm not going to lose sleep over it. So it seems like your the one thats losing sleep over me not giving a shit about this band... numbnuts. : -)=

  • I'm not a huge Church fan (athough I've seen them in concert 4 times) but This is one of the most underrated albums ever imo. Great album.

  • I think this is pretty close to their greatest song.. EPIC classic words

  • I think this is pretty close to their greatest song.. EPIC

  • Definitely one of my all time favorite CDs. Beyond amazing. I can put this CD away for a few years, break it out again and it sounds as good as the first time! The Church will be in Atlanta in Feb. of 2011... The show is so worth it, I'm even taking my ex-wife to the show! Damn... there's a song in there somewhere.....

  • Magic music, magic words. The Church will go down in history as one the best Aussie bands ever. Charts don't matter.

  • @ElYot66 "Broken like a wreck in cold gray sea, like you were a ripple in my memory." Brilliant. Why this didn't become a bigger hit, I'll never know.

  • @PereMarquette1225 It wasn't a huge hit, but Rage played it quite a lot, and so did Triple J - so it got some good exposure... Though I agree - the song deserved more air time. As did the songs from Priest = Aura. :)

  • @ElYot66 True, I did see it a good bit on 120 minutes, but it never reached the level of Under the Milky Way.

  • Light-years are a measure of distance not time.

  • I always think Steve Kilbey is one of the most important songwriters of this century.

  • I love it when you find a great song you haven't heard in 10+ years.

  • Who knew Ricky Gervais could sing so well?

  • Naw man...this is not the Dead...

  • Such a kick ass change to the chorus. I love the harmonies.

  • Great band, this album is brilliant, although i think starfish was better...

first discovered them with under the milky way,but before that they made such a lot of great songs..and still do!

  • they are so good at writing masterpieces that aren't realized for years.

  • Simply brilliant band

  • wow he looks so much different with the lil beard/moustache :D !

    great post

i'm hoping to find this 'more artistic' album

    vid's fantastic, songs even better!

    just bought remote luxury

    fantastic album!

  • I agree... ... very underrated... what a classic band, so deep , so intense sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo magical ,I ove the church, no one can make such a music .

  • Please someone..put this into over a drum n bass beat..it is so sweet and deserves better than a clunky rock beat..(no disrespect to the drummer)

  • Totally Awesome Share & Post!!!...5*s+ Thankyou Gaz....Anita..

  • Великая австралийская группа!!!!!!!!!

  • The Church are sooooo underrated!

  • its such a pity their videos were not produced with more omphh!!! and some more thought. Tantalised is probably the only exception. Stylistically the videos let down the music. Easy was another that almost hit the mark. I think their record company really let these guys down. Such a talented band. Love the music never the less.

  • Masters !!! Fine band, excelent song. Priest=Aura is one of the best 3 The Church albums to me.

  • Yea it rocks. That drum sound and the way it builds momentum but nevers slows down.

The melody floats and resonates over an energy and groove

  • your so 50 light years ahead if your time, steve

  • definitive 90's church

  • great video to a great song. this thing got no airplay in the US.

  • LOVE, LOVE this album (Yeah, there were albums then) with a passion! THanks for the revisit!

  • magnificent as always.

I think I love you oceanchange.

  • My favourite band. Love this vid. musically & visually. First record I ever bought was 'Of Skins & Hearts' , lucky to have seen the Church live countless times in Sydney in '80s & '90s. Such an amazing band, (esp. live, with those cascading guitars washing over you!) So great to see all the old vids again.

  • When this album first came out I swiped it fast. This a a dark record, and I love it!

  • I didn't. I was tempted but for some reason I didn't back then... taste less mature perhaps... I regret not swiping it immediately.

  • Album was a great one all hail the early 90's!!!!

  • THE GREATEST BAND IN THE WORLD TODAY.

    Great LIve.

Best Album of the year. Untitled #23.

Forget Yourself: One of the all-time great albums; Accessible, Rockin' , Confident, Assured-from a band with a history of greatness. They make it seem so easy...

The Last Band in the world with that Beatle Magic!

They will always be more than just a Ripple in my memory.

Marty: THANKS for talking to us after The Church and MW-P

shows at American Music Hall, San Francisco! Daughter Sara Still Stunned...!

  • Overall.....30 years of high quality intelligent music..... have to be the best band ever. And I mean 'ever'. Beatles, Stones, Doors, Police, Nirvana, Chilli Peppers. The lot.

  • Thanks for posting. Awesome song from a great CD!

  • Great band great melodic ideas this band is quite original

  • PSICHEDELIA PURA!!!

  • Great song, incredible album of one of the best bands still around

  • A few years ago, I gave up trying to explain to people why Priest=Aura is my favorite album of all time. But it is.

  • One of the best songs ever.

  • Love this band. Thanks for posting. Anyone have the video for "Feel" off of the Church's Priest=Aura album?

  • i WOULD BE SO SO GRATEFUL IS SOMEONE POSTED THE SONG THE DISILLUSIONIST BY THE CHURCH FROM PRIEST AURA. IT´S ONE OF MY FAV TRACKS

  • priest aura a real masterpiece for people who understand about pop Music. Priest Aura is the best record of the 90´s and a masterpiece ! And this song is simply awesome like all the record.

  • Só os grandes artistas conseguem transcender o óbvio para também tocar o coração. GREAT WORK THE CHURCH!

  • Kilbey's not playing bass, which is maybe one of the reasosns why he looks so peeved. Mind you, the song's about another relationship break-up innit

  • anyone know who directed this music video?

  • All Hail the Church .on of my Top 5 fav. bands of all time .

  • yup. who's your other 4?

  • Red Hot Chili's -The Doors -the Dandy Warhols-H.I.M- Not in that order .i have so many more but those ones stand out to me

  • So eternally good.

  • who edited this video?

  • priest=aura te most beautiful thing in this world

  • Criminally underrated!

  • Totally agree with you. Its a shame how this band is not getting the attention it deserves. The Church is not just an 80s band as the group continues to create beautiful music whether people buy/listen to their albums or not. Talk about being a true indie band.

  • I like that the church is an underrated band because they are only for people with knowledge on quality pop music . And this record is a masterpiece ! Hello from spain . The church are amongst the greats .... They are as good or better than U2 or The Cure in fact They only as good as The Smiths IMHO

  • The Church would most probably hate to hear you say the term pop as they made themselves sound psychedelic and they are actually classified psychedelic

  • Kilbey uses the term space rock and big influences like early Bowie, Trex and Hawkwind.

Actually some of his recent vocal work sounds at times like Bowie.

See his Time Being blog and if you've got heaps of time read it from the start. WOW.

  • @gavgams I love hawkwind and the church... but i don't seldom hear a likeness

  • almost 30 years and STILL making relevant music.

  • I've had this song on the brain all day. I was singing it in the street. xD

the song is worth the embarressment though. It's awesome!! The Church are the best!

  • AWESOME The BEST POP ALBUM EVER THIS ALBUM BY THE CHURCH IS INCREDIBLE !!!!!

  • Tampoco sabía que existía este video. Una verdadera joya,¡que música, gran banda!

  • i didn't know that there was a video to this song... excellent. Priest = aura is one of the best things i've ever heard in my life

  • One of the world's best and most underappreciated bands.

  • I wholeheartedly agree.....and oh that voice.

  • @mobius1aic

Don't worry I have enough appreciation for the rest of em >:D

  • @mobius1aic I say THE best.

    saludos

  • This album is my life!
