  • I know this version indeed from the album "hell bent for leather" My dad would always play the whole album on sunday morning on a high volume and would sing along. When dad died we had it played for him during the ceremonie. Everytime i hear it it brings tears to my eyes

  • When I was a kid in the 60s my mom played this record a lot (I guess it was the collection you mentioned, because it also had Jezebel and Rawhide) and for some reason this song was going through my head for a couple of days, although I hadn't heard it for decades. So glad it was here, thanks! I think the album cover even had him posing like a cowboy with a lasso?

  • @ivyshoots The album you're referring to might be "Hell Bent for Leather."

  • Nobody can sing this song like Frankie. His voice is terrific !!!

  • the designation 'beautiful' gets a new meaning here

  • Frankie Laine was a great singer. He and Tony Bennett should have recorded together when they were at Columbia. This song was my Dads favorite from Frankie Laine. What a voice.

  • Frankie Laine, The Original Recordings, Columbia CDL Sony 485124 2 has original

  • columbia cdl 485124 2 issued by sonyuk has the original recording plus 24 other original 78s by frank

  • Excellent..... -- taney

  • What more can you ask for this great singer. No other singer can match his interpretation of this song

  • A vintage song considered one of my all-time favorites - thank you so much for uploading it.

  • dedicated to ITV PLC.

  • great song , nobody can sing this dong as good as Frankie Laine

  • I own this record. My cousin gave it to me 30 years ago. The record is full of cracks and wavy (it's not flat anymore) so the needle sometimes jumps over a few grooves. Anyway, I tried to find CDs of Frankie Laine to improve the listening quality, but they were all recent recording, and I never found any as good as this one.

  • @poymanjoe My copy has a high hiss for some reason (most of my LPs from this era do not). Someone in the family had bought this in the 50s; I'm guessing it was my grandma's sister or something and it doesn't sound like it was played that often. There was a 3 CD UK release by Sony called "The Frankie Laine Collection" I found on Amazon for around $20 (when I bought it) that includes this song and other older ones but also the famous 'Cowboy' ones like "Rawhide" and "Gunfight at the OK Corral."

  • This is really "singing," while some singers can't support their notes with any volume or sustain the notes. And have no sense of phrasing, as far as I can tell.

I'm so glad YouTube makes these available for me, us, to enjoy!

  • 5 stars! Magnificent!

  • Frankie is the Pavoratti of rhythm and blues. He's pure magic.

  • This version is nice to listen too, he's really good.

  • I don't believe Frankie Laine ever sang badly. Granada shows his range. Everything he touched got his best effort and sometimes it leaves the listener breathless. His like isn't found today.

  • Saw Frankie in person in New Jersey

in 1954. He had a big powerful voice.

Does a great job on this song.

  • My Dad used to sing this before his lungs were shot. Still love it..... Love you too Dad...Gone but never forgotten XXXXX

  • and ya bruv knows x

  • @pmp36 grew up listening to frankie, my dad is his number 1 fan!

  • reminds me of my mum,she always sang frankie songs,my fav is women in love(your eyes are the eyes) beautiful....xxx

  • ow, my land :)

  • wow. :( this vid makes me so sad. some1 msg me!! xD

she is really beautiful. im prettier tho! UG

  • I love Frankie Laine. Beautiful, just beautiful. Thank you.

  • I just came back from Spain, when we visited Granada our tour guide put on the Placido Domingo version but since Frankie sang it when I was a child, only his version fulfills my expectations.

  • Not many Pop Singers could sing this song the way Frankie did. It was almost Opera at it's best. Yes Desi Arnaz did try to sing this song

he also tried Jezebel and made hash of both of them.

  • I wouldn't say "almost opera at it's best" (have you heard Lanza's version?), but apparently being an operatic tenor would have been Laine's first choice for a career had he the voice. He grew up a huge fan of Caruso.

  • @VinylToVideo Thank God he didn't have the voice for it! I like his voice the way that it was and I didn't care for opera!

  • @cf1934

Yes, You said the right words. He did his job as it was meant, rawhide e.g. Obviously his technic was ok too, remembering his late performances and still having his voice.

  • Frankie Laine's version was my first introduction to the song when I was a lad of 10. I fell in love with the song because of his interpretation. When Jose Carreras recorded this, it was in Spanish and I loved it just as well. IMO, the song in Spanish and sang by an opera singer has more to offer. But Frankie Laine's is more reachable by the common guy and it was he who showed the way. It is he that is encouraging when I have pretensions to the song.

  • Can you imagine anyone else singing "That's My Desire" ? Frankie was one of a kind, imo.

  • Actually, it would have been interesting to hear Frankie try opera. He'd probably have been a baritone not a tenor. The curious thing about Laine's voice is that his throaty tonal quality at mid range makes you think that he can't possibly hit those big high notes that he then proceeds to hit magnificently.

  • I think Frankie could do a better job singing opera than some of the opera staes trying to sing pop. Frankie had a voice that you could not pigon hole. He could be both a tenor or a baritone depending on the song he sang. But there is one thing for sure, you always knew it was Frankie Laine, no one else sounded like him.

  • I feel as if I was in the deep south of Spain.

  • I'll take Frankie Laine's singing over an opera singers any day,but not all people have the same taste.

  • This is from Frankie's 1956 "Command Performance" album, which was a forerunner of the "greatest hits" album format Columbia released a few years later. This was originally recorded in 1952, which was a moderate hit for him....Desi Arnaz (as "Ricky Ricardo") also sang it in the famous "I LOVE LUCY" episode, "Lucy Does A TV Commercial" [5/5/52]....
