  • Now that's flying!!!

  • Such a pity they`re gone..

  • Unfortunately this type of travel is gone! It has been replaced with Greyhound Airways.

  • To me, both TWA and Pan Am were the two unofficial airlines of the U.S. They had global air routes which could not be matched by any other airline.

It is a shame though, Lambert Field in St. Louis used to be a hub for TWA and now it is no more than a connecting airport to busier airports now. U.S. Airways, United, American , and Delta just do not get what flying is about now. Flying under Pan Am and TWA during the Jet Age was glamorous and the customer service by the stewardesses was good.

  • I am a former TWA employee. I worked in reservations in Chicago and i would love to reconnect with some of my former co-workers.

  • Elegant commercials reigned in the 1960s. Great music, exciting and straightforward video. Much better than the screaming idiocy of today's advertising. I miss TWA too. They were a very sophisticated airline back in the 1960s/70s.

  • lots of crazy xylo licks on that chart. It's like the Flintstones.

  • I love the catchy, "rhymey" jingles of ads from the 50's, 60's and 70's. Great shot of that 707 roaring into the sky too.

  • this is just half part of the real movie

  • Loved Twa,God bless them-they were awesome!! Was looking to get this DVD,but couldn't find it anywhere. Can someone help me?

  • @Nikon6762 superteamfilms.co.uk sells it

  • @Nikon6762

website superteamfilms dot co dot uk sells the full DVD

  • MerleOberon asked if Carl Icon sleeps well. My guess is that the Corporate swine sleeps just fine, just like the little pink bastard at United, 'glenn tilt.'

  • YABA DABA DOO!

  • I love the smell of kerosene in the morning

  • You can buy the full dvd from superteamfilms

  • I loved this clip but it's not listed on ebay. How do I get a full copy of this?

  • @ilcountrybear look for ebay username: elson-products

  • man....the good old days

  • Carl Icahn, do you sleep well?

  • chef looks like he was hitting the sherry pretty good

  • Back when traveling by air was elegant. Thanks for sharing it.

  • My music playlists for each of the past 100 years include cool clips like this as I find them. A trip back in time awaits only the click of your mouse . . . . . . .

  • thse days were beautiful no 911 no headeche gonebut, not 4gotten!

  • Breech Academy 1976 /Base JFK / Language qualified Spanish & Portuguese/ Favorite route TW#904/906 JFK/MAD/JFK / Layovers Hilton International Hotels / favorite equipment L1011-500 & 747SP / JFK Terminal 5 & Hangar 12 home!

  • Gone but not forgotten, AA was (Assholes Always) us, TW (Tramps & Whores ) Well, all joke a side the AMR/AA sold a merger while planing a ruthless acquisition! Out of the 18,000 TW today remain less than 3,000! Carefully they use 9/11 to furlough the TW employees carefully stapled in the bottom of the AA seniority roaster, AA after overworking their work force for over five years (Bush/Bonzo time) Bingo! TW loses recall rights and out the door with them! AMR/AA NOT TO BE TRUSTED!

  • The flight deck is that of a Convair 880, not the 707. Otherwise, a fantastic film of a once fantastic airline.

    RIP TWA.

  • @Darryl80 And actually is a montage work and not really filmed during take off. And did u saw the tailcam? lol great!

  • TWA stands for...

    ...TRY WALKING ACROSS...

  • One of the world's greatest airlines!

  • In 1986 (I was 10), when passengers could still smoke on airplanes, the moron flight attendants on TWA stuck me in between 2 chain smokers who were lighting up even before the plane disembarked. I thought I was going to vomit since the flight was from NYC to SFO. Luckily,I got a bloody nose (not sure why) before liftoff and started bleeding all over myself and the disgusted smoking passengers so they moved me to 1st class. Even back then they should've known not to stick kids in smoking! Sick.

  • it will be my goal in life to bring back great service and comfort, just like TWA did.

  • It will be my goal in life to bring back that kind of service and comfort in my own airline.

  • Comment removed

  • TWA was a great airline

  • Wow, remember when flying was FUN and Special. Now it's a Bus with wings!

  • Thats because you go on Airbus.

  • Nah.. it's a jail with wings.

  • Excellent video!

  • I guess people used to get dressed up to fly, like they were going to the opera or something. Even with all that service, history tells me that most of what was served up in the sky back in the glory days of Pan Am and TWA could be most charitably described as air dog food. Loved the four-part harmony though!

  • Yeah my parents say that back in the day people used to dress up pretty nicely for doing just about anything, especially wealthier people.

  • People, that is what I miss when I fly in the 21st Century!

All I can say is "Southwest Sucks!

  • That was my first flight first class across the Atlantic and boy those were the good old days of traveling.

  • Dang....I wasn't even born at this time, and I would rather fly then on an airplane than now.

  • Didn't that group sing the Flintstones?

  • Great video

  • Interesting...nowadays, it's "Take your seat, and SHUT UP!"

  • My grandmother used to live in St. Louis and every year when I was a kid I never stayed outside and walked around the neighborhood looking up at the various planes flying by. My favorite was this low flying Boeing 727-200 in the new colors. In fact my first plane ride was a TWA 747-200 when I was a year old flying from St.Louis to Honolulu. What happened to the good old days I ask you?

  • i've always looked up too, i like to know the planes model as well, never been up in a prop plane though, except a helicopter, blah blah

  • wow back then they cared about the 707

  • WOW real food on a flight,,,,,, NOT ANYMORE BUYS AND GIRLS!

  • They had their own matrix at almost 50 years ago?

  • When I think of what American airlines did to all the TWA workers I could vomit. I haven't flown American since, and I never will. In every merger, the buying carrier integrated the employees. Not American. Screw you, American Airlines! And I am NOT a former TWA worker.

  • you and me both

twa, in their last gasp in the early 1990s, treated their passengers like royalty

fly with them on business at all, and you got upgraded to 1st class all the time

but recently i got f--cked out of 100k plus ff miles on aa, due to retrocative exiration program

i'll never fly aa EVER again

  • I flew TWA in the mid 90s on their 727. It was an absolutely AWFUL flight; they lost our luggage and when they found it three weeks later, they brought the contents in some cardboard boxes. Everything inside was damaged by the way. Absolutely horrendous airline and I'm glad it's gone.

  • Poor Little Thermactor:

One little trip and all stressed out.

Glad it happened...you had it coming to you to speak of TWA like that.

Maybe you should of flown on the 707 like us grown-up guys.

    GET A LIFE!!!!!!!!!

  • LOL

whoever you are I LIKE YOU !

  • Hoggdawn:

I share your feelings about AA (assholes anonomous) as we use to call them.

TWA was the best and I have logged over 10 trips across the pond with them

    in the 60's.

    TWA WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTON!

    Loved Pan Am too.

  • Ive been with AA for 13 years and Im not an "asshole anonymous"...we work hard everyday to try to ensure a good flight for our customers...too bad you obviously had a bad experience with us

  • When visiting my grandparents in St. Louis my grandfather would often take me to Lambert St. Louis Airport where I would gaze in awe at the big, beautiful TWA Boeing 707s and the old but reliable Lockheed Connies. In those days before jetways passengers would board by going outside and up the steps to the plane. I thought TWA was the BEST airline in the world and wish she was still around. To the former TWA employees I say you guys were awesome!

  • don't even waste your time with that polishpride jerk, flytwa707. I am a proud former TWA-er myself. They were a grand aviation legend which just got into the wrong hands. They were a superior carrier, thats why I went to work with them. Long live the RED AND WHITE

  • As a PROUD former employee of TWA, which IS an aviation legend, what a great commmercial ! How much coffee do you think they were drinking before they started singing? I LOVE IT, thanks for posting.

  • I loved this style of voices in the music. It would be so cool to revive this style for GM or some other big American company.

  • Welcome to the world of the Tranny Airlines!

  • Aaaahhhhhh..TWA.

  • Does it stand for The Worst Airline? Pathetic carrier, faltered then was rescinded in 1980s. The only legacy they have is overbooking and bad service.

  • No it stands for LOT better than any polish airline with national, pride, scary person!

  • TWA is now AA.

  • DUH!

  • WOW Was that a menu & great looking food with happy people being served? Did that really happen? Where are the drunk women fighting?

  • Where are the Mexicans carrying shopping bags instead of regular luggage?

  • They're American flight attendants.

  • hahaha...aaww

  • okay?

  • I was watching Get Smart and they used a TWA jet for all of their sets. Those were the days.

  • Hi,

Sorry folks for the delay, the FULL DVD is now on ebay as from today (11th May 2008)

It's makes a great gift for someone.

    search on ebay keywords:

    twa transworld airline

  • The Jet Age was such a glamorous time for travel. Everyone dressed to the nines. Everyone got great service. Chanpagne and caviar complimented by fine dining. So grand yet so long ago. Today's crappy airlines could learn a thing or two from the legacy carriers such as Trans-World Airlines, Pan-American Airlines, Branff, Eastern Airlines, and Piedmont Airlines.

    Southwest and Jet Blue sucks!

  • The difference between then and now is a little change called "DEREGULATION," which occcurred in 1978. The market went where Americans wanted--cheapest tix posible. And so the advent of People Express and countless others. THe interneet has driven it even further in that direction. In the 60's, a small % of Americans had ever even flown, as it was too costly, a very special event. Today my fellow Americans are slobs who show up at the airport in flip-flops and shorts and act like pigs onboard.

  • deregulation through the influence of Walter folger Brown USPS postmaster general 1920-30was influential in the developement of passenger aircraft instead of mail carriers. His influence was crucial inawarding contracts to major domestic airlines. UA, AAL, Eastern, TWA. In the early days it was PanAM that monopolized international routes.

    5star vid!

  • Pan-am and TWA are the most "romantic" airlines... and they become more romantic when we ad the 707 with their colors, and the crew with their uniforms...

i wish i was a pilot 50 years ago... when they start the jet era...

  • I believe this was an early Eastmancolor print. They are notorious for fading, it lloks as though only the red record remains. If TWA had commisioned this on Kodachrome it would still be fresh as a daisy. I guess it's part of the charm though.

  • Nice video!!! I love TWA although I was always more of a Pan Am fan.

  • Looks like a DC-8 but I gotta go with Convair 880.

  • Ya that did look like a DC-8 but I have to go with Convair 880.

  • maraaaaaaaaaaaaaaavihoso, its wonderfull

  • So sad to think that TWA is no more.

  • The announcer at the end of this sample clip is the granddaddy of all voice over artists, Mr. Art Gilmore, (still alive at age 95!)

  • TWA was unique the best ;)

  • TWA is not entirley gone, American Airlines is therioticly TWA renamed after they merged.

  • Actually, TWA's commuter division is still in operation, TWE, it is owned by AA, and United

  • Wonderful video.

Sounds like the same group that did the theme song from the "Flintstones"

    And that's a Convair 880 at 00:43.

  • It used to be so wonderful to go Port Columbus and go up, UP and AWAY with TWA! Wonderful video of a far happier, prosperous and gracious time. Thank You!

  • The at 00:43 to 00:45, it was a DC-8 not a 707 like what they had in the rest of the clip.

  • Convair 880, "Lead Sleds", I rode them out of CMH

  • Yea...maybe...but I dont understand...TWA never had the DC-8!

  • actually its a convair 880. TWA never flew the DC-8, but the CV-880 and DC-8 have a similar cockpit window layout.

  • your point?

  • That looks like a DC-8 but on closer look I have to go with a Convair 880 cockpit.

    regards,

    SDF880

  • Thats a Convair 880

  • cheasy music but great video!

  • As an ex employee of TWA it is a shame that the airline is no more

  • I agree, What happend? I remember TWA flight 800 and after that the airline was gone. I flew on TWA years ago with my parents, very nice airline and crew!...

  • my father was a flight attendant there for many years and feels the same way :(

  • EXCELLENT!!

  • I was very young when this airline went bankrupt. It never recovered from Flight 800 Crash :-( Plus, it used to claim that it has most destinations abroad... but in reality it didn't.

  • A GREAT airline that will be missed

  • Those were the days when traveling by air was something special, now it's like riding a city bus. I sure do miss TWA, very sad to see it gone.

  • GREAT!. Great to hear these old Jingles. I miss TWA So Much!...Its Sad There gone. I WILL NEVER FLY AMERICAN!..JetBlue Either Because They took there termial at JFK

  • Wow! Them were the days!

  • This film must have been produced in 1962 or later because the 707 jetliner shown has turbofan engines, which were being fitted to jetliners in 1962. Also, the airliner flight deck shown is that of a Convair 880 jet (707's had only two forward facing windshields).

  • It nice to see a TWA commercal from the 60's. I really like the Boeing 707, and them going from them song to plane talk.

  • UP UP AND AWAY ... Loved you TWA !

  • Up,up and away !! Hello up in the sky to Tom Majors my father, vice president of TWA France in the 70s...Tony Majors

  • Awesome film!!!! GREAT A+ find!!!!

  • That is a flash back into the past! Thanks for posting, where do you get somthing like that?

  • *bops to music* i love this! if only flying was this.. flashy nowadays!

  • TWA could not survive after Carl Icon took them in and out of bankruptsy three times....9/11 also took its toll....fuel costs, benefits and a market that could not support the old business models...explains why United and USAir also had to go thru chap 11, and renegociate with the unions on benefits and pensions.

  • AA purchased TWA's assets months before 9/11.

  • What happened to Twa they looked like they were doing so good right now i will never fly american !!!

  • twawasthebest i know you like a lot o people liked and still like TWA but the sad truth is that a plane off trans world crashed and no one survibed so from that crash TWA went down :( have a nice day any way :)

  • u got that right twawasthebest mee neither!

  • A four-star restaurant in the sky. How amazingly classy it was to fly in those days!

  • "Something to drink?" ;-)

  • Great! Thank you for sharing!

  • BRILLIANT. Great to hear these old Jingles. My wife was a stewardess for TWA back in the Sixties. I will now look on ebay for this as it will make the perfect Xmas gift for her!! Thanks a lot.

  • Almost makes you wish those days were back.

Also funny how the singers all sound like Doris Day :)

  • Wonderful, Marc! Loved the fashions and the well-dressed people at the airport! Thing of the past, isn't it?

  • Sure is. Replaced by my favorite: women dressed in gaudy pink pajama suits with fuzzy materials with the word "juicy" or "princess" on the ass. No couth!

  • Ha! Good one...
