I think its the dad off that christmas episode of saved by the bell where Zack likes the girl who lives in the mall with her dad because they are homeless
I liked this one...up until he turned upside down for the 3rd time and couldn't get upright!! I always felt kinda panicky when I would watch this one because I knew I'd see that part again.
Thank you SO much for posting this! This clip, particularly the music, was my favorite thing ever from Sesame street and has been floating in the back of my mind for I guess going on three decades now. I've long wished I could see it again.
Sure looks like Jim Henson to me. Wouldn't surprise me if it was him. During the show's early years, he and his kids sometimes made on-screen appearances. He even directed some of these little vignettes, maybe even this one too.
It looks like this guy is drifting in his Kayak inside a giant stream. I'm able to tell with all the trees and rocks around. I never knew that someone was allowed to drift or swim inside a stream since I thought if someone did, they would get a ticket from the police. If it's not a stream, then it's probably a river next to the woods but, it doesn't look like that guy is at the beach or in a swimming pool.
I used to get scared when the man's Kayak kept tipping over. I thought he was drowning or going to drown. Since the water looked a little rough in some spots, I also thought he was drifting along near Niagara Falls which felt a lot scarier.
Wow...it's been over 15 years since I last saw this. I remember this film VERY well. It's interesting how I wasn't the only one to be concerned when the kayaker flipped over!
Ah, yes, another one I remember; I sure remember the kayaker tipping over and going back upright again. I had no idea what that thing was; it would've been better if an offscreen voice said, "Kayak."
Can someone post these please if possible! "Water, Wind and Sun" film, Paul Simon playing "BINGO" song, and an old film ,not sure the title, that has totem poles and fountains in it backed by a Raposo song.
I don't know where to post a request, but this seems to fit here...
does anyone remember two film pieces, one with a girl and her brother putting together a life-size puzzle of a person, with the girl narrating? The second one is a film of a huge ant hill (like 10 feet high) with someone describing it, then letting the ambient sound (buzzing?) take over.
I didn't realize for years he was intentionally doing the flips himself, and yes I was a little concerned when he almost didn't come back up. I think the fact he was in shallow enough water to push himself up with the oar saved him.
Thank you so much -- I've been looking for this for *years*! Over the past few months, whenever I've come to Youtube, I've searched on "sesame street kayak" in hopes that this footage (and in particular the music) would someday show up. And how nice to find out that the great Joe Raposo wrote the music. You've made my day!
You're right. He does look like Jim Henson. It might be him. I was able to see his face a little bit at 1:09, and it looks like that it really is Jim Henson.
these are new ones to Youtube - thanks sawing14s!! I loved this one as well. Any chance you have the Raposo "Trying and Trying again" song with kitten climbing stairs and turtle on its back?

I admit, when I was a kid I didn't know what kyacking was and wondered if this guy didn't have legs. Lol, thankfully I know better now.

LOL!! YOU THOUGHT HE DIDN'T HAVE LEGS, that's funny. Never thought of that.

I always wondered why the guy kept flipping over at the end. I like the idea suggested by cosmowanda868. Some kids should have yelled "Kayak!!!!!!"
jeopardy60611 4 years ago
me too. did it on purpose.
bearcattony 4 years ago
I agree. A voice shouting "Kayak" would've sounded a lot better than just showing the man drifting in the water.

Where is his PFD? What were they teaching these kids?
Still a neat video though.

He wasn't pushing off the bottom, you moron. His roll was very poor, but he wasn't in any danger, and certainly didn't need "saving"!
