  • by far the best handling/ braking numbers for a 20k car

  • @tom11zz884 well, for a small car under $25,000 what are you expecting to get?

  • slow car

  • Slalom 66.8?? Holy shit, that's an ridiculously nice performance!!!

  • i cant decide over a mazda 3 or a kia forte koup... which is better???!?!?

  • @YoTengoTomatoes a used a mazdaspeed3

  • @YoTengoTomatoes mazda 3!!!! trust me ive driven both

  • @YoTengoTomatoes Dude definetly the mazda 3. The Kia is not even close.

  • @YoTengoTomatoes go for the mazda... korean cars suck except for hyundai (they have gotten SIGNIFICANTLY better lately)

  • @KryptoDragon

I would like to know the mods on his maxima, if you can find out please.

  • Their numbers have to be flawed. I have done 0-60 in mine in 7.6 secs. But i only have the Sport hatch instead of the GT. GT might be heavier enough to be slower

  • The smiley face grill makes me laugh my ass off. i think it looks funny XD i would sooo get this car LOL!!!

  • too bad is too ugly.

  • wth. isnt this turboed? why is it running 16 sec 1/4 mile? so it still can't beat them civic si. don't them civic si run 15-high 14 sec 1/4 mile?

  • @KryptoDragon No this is naturally aspirated with a 2.5 that in the mazda 6 4-cylinder. Now the turbocharged one will rape a si.

  • @jsnevels2 humm pretty slow tho. 16 sec for a quarter mile is prettyslow. i think a corrola would do just as good. now for the turbo charged one it will rape si but i heard that these mazada three turbo are hard as heck to tune and get more hp out on.

  • @KryptoDragon Yes but i would take the si or a sentra spec-v both are good to mod especially the si

  • @jsnevels2 iono i would go with a nissan maxima as on of my cousin did a 13 sec out of it with no turbo or anything.

  • @KryptoDragon What year cause if its a 2002-2003 yea they can hit 13s easy

  • @jsnevels2

    lol 95-99

  • @KryptoDragon whoa he must have alot of mods but its common for a 95-99 nice

  • @jsnevels

not really. around 1k. the hp is 220hp but it covers the powerband he says. so that means tat at any rpm it is 220hp. he pulls alot of cars all day long until some dumbass stole his car lol.

  • @KryptoDragon Dawg well i hope he buys another one

  • @jsnevels2 yeah he got another one. he might tune it the same way. iono how he tune it to be but he run pretty good with NA. when you think 13 sec for a 1/4 mile it is as fast as a 300hp evo or subaru.

  • @KryptoDragon Yea i like the lancer ralliart man that thing shifts sharp. Its fast for 237hp

  • @jsnevels2 i havn't try that car before but would be a good ideal tho.

  • eh ive grown to like its look....still pretty slow wish it could pull off high 7s

  • i like the mazda 3 a lot , i almost bought it ... but i just couldn't stand that ugly smiley grill , & i looked at it in white ..... it drove very nice nice interior ... but NO iPod integration u have to use the old fation AUX jack ... deal breaker

  • slow as hell

  • alfa romeo giulietta is better!

  • And here I thought clown cars only came in red.

  • they really ruined this car with the second generation

  • i just keep seeing >=D faces on the vid

  • I fully intend to buy this car fully loaded for my wife next year. Put simply, the accel is more than acceptable for an economy car, and the fuel economy is great for a vehicle with so much torque and a large hatchback. The braking, slalom and skidpad numbers are treading in sports car territory. Also, automotive journalists have praised the quality of it's interior.

In the end, it's a great combination of fun-to-drive, economy and practicality for under C$30k. Nothing else can compete.

  • For under 30kcan ? yes the vw Golf can compare.

  • Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy!

    Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy!

  • These braking numbers are shorter than the full test of the Mazda 3 S Sedan which stopped in 127 ft. That latter value is disappointing for a car with sporty pretenses. The hp/tq for the 2.5L is also disappointing. How come Honda can get 250 hp out of a 2.0L but Mazda can only get 167 hp out of a 2.5? Yes I know the torque is better. I wish cars would stop getting heavier with every re-design.

  • The mazda 3 is still a compact car. If you add more power you also add cost, and hurt fuel economy.

  • @21mongus -- It's really just how you look at it. Compare fuel economy / HP to last gen and you see an improvement. And it's not just Honda that can do it. I guess an example would be the 2.0L found in the MZ3 & Miata. You can see they can crank out higher HP from one.

Personally, it's why I enjoy the ride of German cars. HP & high Torque it just feels sophisticated and pulls when you need it. On the other hand, some prefer their hondas screaming at the redline as they zip by.

  • Bro the Mazda 3 speed is 267 hp with a 2.5,but it cost a bit more.

  • @stevezane actually it is still a 2.3 Turbo. My point is that other companies get more out of their engines normally aspirated. However they bump the compression to do so and thus require premium fuel. I wonder how well the 2.5 responds to a compression bump.

  • 21mongus,

I just bought one...the GS 2.5...just explain to me what is a compression bump and I will be able to answer your question.

  • @stevezane a compression bump can be accomplished by either using a thinner head gasket, changing the pistons, or both. The compression ratio is 9.7. So I wonder if that can be bumped to 10.5 or so and then use higher octane fuel. Improved fuel economy (of course at increased cost) and a slight gain in power, about 5 hp or so should result though I have not seen anyone do it yet.

  • @stevezane it has a 2.3L Turbo. It uses a LOT more gas. It's a LOT less practical. The MS3 and the Mazda3 are in two completely different classes. Compared to the engines in the Civic and Corolla, 167 HP puts the 3 at the front of the compact car pack.

  • Comment removed

  • JordsterMovies yep I know and I own one for the past 3 days...lol It has the 2.5...the 2.3 was the genaration before the 2010. Its got plenty of zep.Get one one you'll love it I promise...

  • oh yes the speed 3 has the 2.3 turbo...you're right

  • @21mongus It's the tires. The Hatch comes with better stock tires and hence shorter stopping distances. I love Toyo.

  • impressive numbers for a small hatch.

  • those numbers were allright, but idk why the car has to be so damn happy about it.

  • No matter how much fun you're having in this car, the car will always look like it's having more.

  • The new 2.5 is not as quick for two reasons. It's carrying 149 more pounds, and the 6 speed manual requires two shifts to reach 60 MPH, the 5 speed could do over 60 in 2nd gear. Car & Driver shows old 2.3L was 7.4 sec, new 2.5L is 7.7 sec (0-60) 1/4 mile was 15.8 for the 2.3L, and 16.0 for the new 2.5L but trap speed nearly identical

  • I don't think your numbers are correct. I remember Car and Driver saying 9 sec for the 2.3 and I'm looking at the review for the 2.5, which says 8.0 Factory says 8.1 Kelly Blue Book got 7.9

  • "We hit 60 mph in 7.7 seconds, 0.4 second slower than in our last Mazda 3 test [December 2006]. " Direct from the pages of C&D

  • Paint the black bumper and it becomes its braces.

  • i hate that big ass smiley face. hurry up with the speed tho lol

  • x2

    and yea they fucket up...

    looks like a happy matrix.

  • I just can't wait to see the Mazdaspeed edition! I saw some photos and it looks incredible with the hood scoop!

  • Every time i see one it makes me feel like its smiling too much and i just wish i could lop its stupid head off with a meat cleaver.

  • it looks so much happier than the older mazdas. hahaha

  • Not a real performer, but I wouldn't mind it for a daily driver. Sounds like an exciting car to be driving.

  • The car is Smiling at how good the review was xD

  • There's two engine options for this car. Which one did Edmunds use for the test? Btw, as far as the face goes, you only notice it on lighter colours like white or blue, darker colored cars you dont really notice it as much, take a look at one up close rather than just judging from a youtube video. It's honestly not as bad as everyone is making it out to be.

  • the s denotes the 2.5L I-4

  • the breaking distance is better than the new mercedes e class

  • I LOVE THIS CAR!

  • i doubt anyone would buy that ugly p.o.s. it got a clown front end and the numbers are terrible. my crown vic can easily whop that, and the older MazdaSpeed3 produced better numbers than that. come on Japan, i agree with regjoe30, i expect more from Japan, especially import tuners like this

  • this isn't a mazdaspeed3 tho. this is a more sporty version of the base model (i.e. no turbo). that's why it doesn't keep up with the MS3s.

  • ohh ok. i look on Mazda's website today and they have the 2010 3's available, but they still have the 09 Speed3, they dont have the new one yet

  • Not a MSpeed 3, its just the 2.5 I4, and I would love to see your Crown Vic carry that speed in the slalom or come anywhere near the build quality.

  • yea i already got told that. of course, a crown vic is almost twice as heavy. but i guarantee, it can do 0-60 in less than 7 secs, and could probably shave about 3 or 4 tenths of a second on the 1/4 mile time, and i did a brake test just yesterday, and it stopped from 60 in 116 ft on factory brakes, but on aftermarket all-season rubber. The Mazda3, dont get me wrong, it is an ok car, not too keen on the front end, but an ok car, my mom would like it. Btw, what engine size does the 2010 MS3 have?

  • They're sticking with the 2.3 Turbo powerplant. It'll probably be more refined and perform better because of the new hoodscoop...hopefully.

  • wow, amazing how the Mazda MazdaSpeed3 has a smaller engine, but more power plus turbo. it still has 263hp or more? i forgot

  • i agree

  • what happened to the face of the mazda 3? ITS UGLY! Mazda ruined it!

  • they probably thought that the potential buyers were clowns

  • WITCH ENGINE?????

  • Clown faced car...

  • why do they come up with something worse than what they had before??? POS.

  • i'd be more excited about this car if it weren't smiling at me. i personally prefer a car that looks at me like "come on!! drive me you motherfucker!! that's all you got, you pansy?! come on hit me!!" and i really don't think the justification for making the front fascia the way it is holds up for me. i mean i get it, but i would have rather focused on making it look less...hmm..animated?

  • Yeah, I don't really like the smiley face front fascia either. I've read that it's more aero efficient than the previous generation which is a good thing. But, Mazda needs to get rid of the smiley face and make it meaner looking like you say. The rest of the car is great though! It's too bad they didn't show the interior. It's best in class by far!

  • The slalom test looked fast! Good Braking! Looks to be the same agile Mazda 3 although a tad bit heavier. I would have thought the bigger 2.5 liter in the 2010 would have at least matched the older 2.3 liter 7.5 second time from 0-60(manual transmission). I also noticed that the driver spun the tires in 1st & 2nd gear at takeoff which won't help the time either. For those of you interested: Last generation 2.3 liter #'s are 69 mph in the slalom, .87g skidpad, and 118 feet braking 60-0 mph

  • Recorded time by Mazda is 7.5 seconds, so this guy wasnt really a match

  • Atleast it looks like a happy camper.. wow that 1/4 mile speed is horrid.

  • for the money , an SI would be better

  • At least the 60-0 was kinda impressive.

  • i dont like the front....the old one was better

  • ugh. no good.

  • I hate the front, lol, looks like your always happy, smiles, wish it was a better car, never like mazads, only the RX7

  • looks horrid previous version looked way better.

  • agreed. the nose on the new one supposedly allows for better air flow

  • well i guess some times you got t sacrifice looks for performance.

  • It looks very cool !!

  • Almost a second slower then the previous version.

  • mazdas are starting to look like pok'emon

thumbs up if you think so

  • @redfranchise oh no! a gti! mazda 3 s, i choose you

  • @jonathans8 lol gti used diesel.....ITS VERY EFFECTIVE.

mazda 3 evolves in to mazdaspeed!!!!!

  • Looks like the blue Grinch

  • its too happy... its scary

  • Great car...styling looks great execpt for the nose.

  • Relative to what they usually put out, this video was poorly put together.

  • lol the front looks like a smiling whale

  • I don't think I've ever seen a car that looks excited before...

  • Boy am I glad that I own a first-gen Mazda3...

  • so called shopping bag

  • Disappointing??? I'm gonna go with yes!!!

  • really nice

  • omg! seen one on the road last night. fucking ugly.

  • LOL smiling car XD

  • yeah rofl

  • man...that car is always happy

  • it's got good grip.

  • Man, that huge "smile" on the front... what were they thinking?! Hideous.

  • it looks like a retarded carp washed up on a beach

  • I don't like the front!

  • i dont like the back

  • 4th!!! burgoynable nonsense!

  • That grill is fucking HUGE!!!!

  • with u on that one its to big

  • Congratulations you win nothing!!!

  • FILIPINOCD, thanks!
