A good number of the these Palestinians, Egyptians, Persians and Syrians in the audience had only a tenuous grasp of the English language and I doubt very many of the older ones would have regognized Truther lore from the incomprehensible gibberish that came out of the "Truther".

@tapsombong1 Your post 'leaves me' wondering what media you are looking at. I saw Global, CTV and CBC news cameras there. Galloway mentioned being interviewed several times earlier in the day. A cursory glance at the web brings up articles from the following Canadian newspapers and magazines: Montreal Gazette, the National Post, Toronto Sun, Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, and Maclean's.

While those post-9/11 words have been championed as the words of a brave and moral man, to arrive at such a conclusion one must consciously overlook Maher's own enthusiastic support for "cowardly" "lobbing of cruise missiles from 2000 miles away" during other conflicts.

I was there last night to support the Gaza relief effort, but left right after George stated something like, " Great Jews like Trotsky and Marx," and fell all over himself to defend leftist communism. In George's mind criticism of Israel is OK as long as Jews approve it. In other words, free speech for communists, all others shut the hell up.

@pluslou There were plenty of moments that I myself became uncomfortable and I have to agree that lengthy "good Jews" disclaimer went over the top (although I do not recall hearing the name "Trotsky").

His take on "free speech" was certainly not something that I felt that I could ever rally behind. While I believe he was limiting his restrictions to free speech to the prohibiting acts or calls to violence, his vague explanation was too broad and too close to hate/thought crime legislation.

I still believe this is a just cause and I will wish him luck with it, for their sake, but I am very uncomfortable with communist leanings. Also, I believe in free speech for all, regardless of your take on history and what might have, or might not have happened. If I don't like your peaches, I won't shake your tree. Thank you.
