The thing with him is his confidence on the matt. He is so sure of his abilities. I saw him at abu dabi 2007 and the 2008 worlds. He knows how to use his size/weight. He's been doing this forever. He moves well for a big man. He trains hard, and is training his judo even harder now. His dad is Maurição Motta Gomes, who could smash any of us regardless of his age in bjj. I would pay to see a serious rolling session between him and Rickson.

About catch not being as popular as the BJJ(I think) is because gracie revolutionized everything when he went to the UFC and beat people in the early stages,plus people think that catch wrestling is just like on TV...you know? just show.Sakuraba proved the gracies wrong about catch wrestling.

No he has lost to Jacare in the past too,but that doesn't matter as he beat Jacare a couple of times too...overall he is always on top. Don't get me wrong,this year Roger won the gold medal in his weight class. The absolute means that every winner on their weight class faces each other after wards for another medal and this year Xande Ribeiro won in his class AND in the absolute<---nobody has done that before(I think).

Roger is actually apart of the Carlos Gracie branch, not the Helio Gracie branch, it tends to be the Helio Gracie family members who are hopelessly inept at striking. Carlos Gracie tended to believe in more combat readiness, hence setting the pace...and fighting stand up as well as on the ground. Roger fits the same mold..though his ground skills are much much much better, he'll be better at striking I think. He's the next big one in MMA imo.
