I wonder why I wasn't in love with her when I was 17? Maybe it was before there was a lot of video available. I had a copy of Parallel Lines and enjoyed it but now I see how truly classic they were. This is why the French love American culture. Blondie (esp. Ms. Harry) were absolutely world-class.
Just so cool. My husband was so in love with DH. She had everything; looks, voice, body, talent and determination. Madonna? a rip off compared to Debbie Harry.
Blondie produced so many classics that bring back so many memories.
I think Parallel Lines has welded itself into my husband's car CD player!
Cathkinghost mentions a "hogmanay party." Thank goodness for Google: New Year's Eve party in Scotland. I might have figured it out if I'd looked at the video description "recorded live in Glasgow 12.31.1979."
What an absolute babe Miss Harry was back in the day and Blondie were a fine live band. I have this gig on dvd (but it's just highlights from the gig as it's not on that long). Still good though.
@themainproblem Not nearly as big a madonna fan as I am a DH fan but, of what status do you speak? Everyone knows who Madonna is, not everyone knows who DH is, not even close..... I think it's tragic but that's just how it is.
she was my 1st crush & then i also realised what a fantastic band they were, & released classic after classic top all round & DH,s voice is very strong ,pisses on madonna
@Coldmystery Debbie was always more focused of pleasing herself artistically, Madonna always tried to find the commercial way in her works. It is clear in the stages preparation. Blondie never had dancers, scenography, etc, just some light and maybe a backdrop.
@marcosssssssssss1990 Yeah Deborah's musical talent was her act, unlike todays pop skanks who have no artistic talent or integrity and just want to be famous for anything and therfore NEED dancers light shows explosions and fire works to distract from the obvious lake of REAL Talent! Modonna started it all with shows incorporating dancing troops and costume changes and LIP SINCING! because Madonna cant and NEVER COULD really SING!
Thanks for the heads-up 1rooster67. It is indeed available, but only in the USA, ironic since it is a BBC production of a concert which took place in the UK. It is region 1 and NTSC, but I may well get a copy anyway. OK, so .........
COME ON BBC! Let's have the whole thing released on PAL Region 2 DVD !!!
This was a BBC simulcast, on the TV and on Radio 1 in stereo. I had the audio recording for years then some lowlife stole it (along with the rest of my audio tapes).
Great to hear it again, Picture This is probably my favourite Blondie song.
Some of the songs from this concert have been released on various Blondie compilations but .......
COME ON CHRYSALIS RECORDS / BBC! Let's have the whole thing released on DVD!!!
First time I've come across the any film of the concert. I was there, my first ever gig and only 12 years old. New Year's Eve and there's Debs in skintight leggings only a few yards from me! Gobsmacked, in lust , drooling, etc.. Happy New Year!! Haven't been the same since!
Oh my god do you have anymore of this concert?? I watched it on TV once on something called BBC Crown Jewels Old Grey Whistle Test. It aired on VH1 Classic and it hasn't come on again!!
Love hearing Picture this live. The one think you can say about Debbie Harry is that she is overall beatiful. Beautiful face, voice, and personality. You could tell her again again and again she's beautiful and she'd still be Debbie and still be beautifull. I love her!
It's amazing that they were so HUGE in the UK in 1979 and yet they refused to play at stadiums and stuck to the mid size venues because they felt the the quality of the music was better in smaller venues. How many bands at the top of their game have this kind of integrity and ethics that beat out the greed for more money from bigger venues?
While we listen to this great performance and the excellent sound, let's thank the guy on the sound board for giving us a live performance that is so clean to listen to. And no one will ever know his name....
Tis my favourite Blondie song of all time. I've seen them live 3 times now but still struggle to understand the lyrics (even though it's my fave!) Anyone got it written, and could post? I'd be grateful!
No female vocalist of the last forty years compares to Debby Harry. Of the last couple of generations, she is and was the best, IMHO. My one regret is never having seen her in person, or met her. Ah well, what a meeting that would have been.
i started listening to Nena, German. She too is cute, and a great singer. Not as good as blondie, but nena has some good music- not just 99 luft balloons. but debbie is really something else.
Blondie bring in the 1980's in Scotland! Think they played Edinburgh on New Years Day as well and of course came back to do it all again in 2004, ace!
great performance from the entire band although Debbie wasn't so constant in her singing that night (don't take me wrong She's the best but you know singers can't be always at their best...a cold, a sore throat). I keep on thinking their best live performances on video are the ones from Musik Laden in 1978 (both of sessions). Anyway that's spectacular and Picture This is certainly one of the hardest songs to sing in the pop-history. Kudos on them!
Blondie was it for me and my friends. We'd watch EAT TO THE BEAT every day and dream of having a band as good as Blondie.

Please stop the comparisons to Madonna as it is not fair!
DH is a rockin' roller and Madge is a buisness woman.
