  • @rycat42 usually shipping mortality from Mcmurray chicks is very low- we generally get about 100 chicks from them per year and I'd say mortality on delivery is less than 1%.

  • My dad works transporting cows to the slaughter and they use shavings for the cows and I get like 10 bags of 20 cu ft of shavings every week

And I use them for my chickens they love it and smell way better

  • Lol i got a strippied baby chicken once i called him Squirly LOL

  • thats just something you will have to deal with. It happens I work at a hatchery

  • how long dose it take to be a stag or till it start crowing?? or how many months or weeks?

  • 5*s im getting mine from there soon

  • how old do i have to be to order????i need help someone make a video to help me

  • Are you getting started with chickens? I can help you out with some info. Send me a comment or a private message with any questions you have.

  • ive got a few questions if you will answer them

  • Sure, ask away.

  • well for 1 does my brooder need pine shavings or can i just use cedar chips.and how much space does each chick need (ive got probobally 10 sq ft).

and my local feed store is selling chicks with the option of beak trimming what is that?

  • I'm not really sure about the shavings, but to be safe its probably best to use pine. Cedar might be fine, but I don't know. I couldn't find a figure of how much space a chick needs, but basically they just need enough to move around and get away from the heat lamp if they need to. Beak trimming is cutting off the end of the beak, which prevents cannabilism, but I wouldn't recommend it. You won't have any trouble with cannabilism as long as the chicks have enough space and enough to eat.

  • would 10 sq feet be enough for 12 chicks until theyre ready to go outside? thanks :)

  • I can't be exactly sure since that would depend on how big the birds were when they are ready to go out, but it sounds possible. Maybe a little less than ideal, but not everything can be ideal all the time. If you search for "raising chicks" on the web, there is a lot of good information. I'd go with whatever the experts say, but it won't kill the chickens to have a little less than the recommended ammount of room. As long as everybody gets plenty to eat, it shouldn't be a problem.

  • alright sounds good , thanks for all your help :) ooh wait 1 more question for my heating lamp should i use a red bulb or like.. a 250 watt bulb?

  • I'm using red 250-watt bulbs, which I'd recommend for 12 chicks. The red ones supposedly prevent cannabilism, so that's probably best just for some insurance.

I'm up late now keeping an eye on a couple of premature babies that decided to hatch early. They're not supposed to hatch until tuesday, but two pecked through the shell this morning, so I helped them along. I didn't expect them to make it, but it looks like they're doing ok.

    Good luck with your chicks.

  • ok cool ,thanks for all your help :P and good luck with your chicks too

  • Ceder can be very harmful to a chickens lungs. Don't use it

  • no it should be like 3 to 4 feat each bird

  • thats for grown birds and its a square foot for each bird and for shipping chicks you cant do that besides there not going to live there forever just till they get to their new home.

  • pekin ducks and muscovy ducks they are now little 3 to 4 weeks old!

  • i mean i got baby ducks!

  • thats tigh what kind i love ducks

  • we are getting ready to open our baby chicks

we got from the post office :) :)

  • thats tight what kinda chicks did you get

  • who's this

  • cute

  • Looks like you're in for a lot of fun!
