Actually, 'annyeong hashimnika' is more like 'hello.' 'Hwanyeong hamnida' means 'welcome,' and in the context used, means 'welcome to America.' BHO did a good job, and in making the effort, was being courteous to his guest. It doesn't matter how well something is said; it's the fact that one tries to say something in a language that isn't really necessary for them to learn. For Koreans, they need to learn English. We don't have to learn their language, so it is always appreciated.

It really has to do with economic opportunity more than anything else. Interestingly, Koreans can always tell when someone has lived in another country; they are changed by the experience.
