I only saw this once in my life, like when I was... six? I'm not even sure. But I liked it so much, and I thought then it was such a beautiful little melody I never forgot it. The other day when I was looking up at the moon I thought of it, and wouldn't you know, I actually remembered how the tune went... and I'm 28 now! How is that even possible to remember something that I heard only once when I was six?? Goes to show what an impact this had on me back then. :-)
@CGolds235 Music does that period: you may have only heard it once, but it holds onto something in your mind and doesn't let go. The Classic Sesame Street songs have that element in spades... well, more like hearts!
At my school, the seniors sing a special signing off song at our annual school. This is the song we are singing this year. I am so thankful, this is such a great song that brings back so many great childhood memories. Rest In Peace Jim Henson.
I sang this song to my little baby cousin as a lullaby and he loved it. This song is very powerful and beautiful and it brings back so many childhood memories. But it also makes me cry remembering Jim Henson is dead. Jim Henson, I wish you to know, me and millions of people still miss you dearly and will never forget the gifts you have given us. Please still rest in peace, Jim!!! :'(
My dad bought me tapes of Ernie and Bert and Big Bird the songs were so awesome and it's nice to hear this one because I haven't heard it in so long. I wanna get the songs for my mp3 player but I can't find the rest of them=( But yay this one is there.
i love this song soooo much haha my baby cousind has this on a cd and its may fav song on her cd haha my other cousind laughs at me but i do love this song
Stop pressing replay...stop pressing replay..my fingers has a mind of their own..Sing ernie sing...."there's not much to do if ur friends are all fish"..♪♪♪♪♪
I get teary eyes too, when ever i watch this! Idk why though! I love this song! it reminds me of when i was a child! ♥ Ernie is still my favorite monster!!!!! :))))
i remember when i was a kid, i would sit in front of the tv and watch sesame street just wating for ernie and this song, and i would cry as a child, and as an adult. its a very powerful song, and very good
this song is unforgettable :) I remember watching this on tv when I was a little kid and singing it all the time! ernie is my favorite! he is so awesome
I'm not too amazed, people are pretty stupid, as, uh, "homeboy" and "credz" have nicely illustrated. As for this song, danasaur, it is very poignant. I would say not to take, uh, "homeboy" too seriously, but, let's be honest, who does? (Does he talk to his mom with that grammar? Tsk, tsk.)
this song is so touching. it makes me sad and brings back good memories. this song is so wonderful. sesame street was at its best on all the early shows, now its not as good, jim henson had a heart of gold. i wish he was still around!
Thank you so much for sharing these clips! They take me back to fond memories of a simpler time when Sesame Street was the inspiration for so much of my desire to explore and learn and the development of so many personal values that I still hold today.
when our days where much like calvin and hobbes where our imaginations where insane big vivid and even real. Imaginary friends were the best and Your own backyard was years of fun. even if you just had a stick.
I thought the color of your skin didn't matter. We are one Race the Human Race. So how can any of us be Racist? Think about it a little man.. And why did you post this crude comment here? Why dose the color of Obama's skin or any president even matter? A mans skin color dosn't make him what he is! What he dose with his life through his creator is what makes him a Man! Think about it. Lets stop using a language base that divides us. Peace..dude.
A song of our childhood imagination of the worlds we would love to visit and still show that no place is like home.
God bless you Ernie. god bless everyone at Sesame Street from the 90's and before. you defined, shaped, and raised our childhood's. Without you guys imagination wouldnt be the same.
I really can't understand how a rather sweet little children's song could inspire such childish bickering. I don't know what you're arguing about and I don't care, but take it somewhere else. The rest of us are not interested and are sick of having to see it. Either grow up or do this in private. You both seem to enjoy arguing with each other so much that you are willing to do it for several pages. For all I know, you're in love with each other. Take your perverted little obsession elsewhere.
DJF: "I really can't understand how a rather sweet little children's song could inspire such childish bickering."
Well, the user in question started out saying that Bert and Ernie are gay. I cleared up that rumor, but then, the user started acting like a jerk--saying he could say anything he wanted, despite knowing he was acting like a jerk--and I responded back in kind. I never wanted this whole fight to start, let alone span several pages, but he kept raising my ire.
This clip was a segment in the Muppet's tribute to Henson, yes? Beautiful song. Sesame just isn't the same these days. The old stuff is still the best ♥
rainofatoms: Listen...I do NOT think my view is superior to yours. Not ONCE have I implied that, even if you interpreted my messages as such. I certainly do NOT wish to cause problems between us, but then again, our whole debate has been nothing but spam in a comment box about a video relating to a beloved institution that's almost like family to countless generations (and as such, it shouldn't be mocked, in my humble opinion, not just as a Muppet fan, but as an individual, period).
rainofatoms: Our officials--no matter the race, nationality, orientation, or political party--have spat on The Constitution since Nixon's day and probably even earlier! Our government also talks about God ("In God We Trust", "One Nation Under God", "That They Are Endowed By Their CREATOR", etc.), and yet, many don't believe in Him anymore. In the same way that God's being tossed aside, so have our governmental morals with officials using The Constitution as toilet paper to wipe their butts with.
Heck, despite Sesame Street's spread out pool of Muppets & people of different nationalities, lifestyles, and beliefs, Fraggle Rock (another Henson creation) was devoted to the sole purpose of showing how different societies--or different aspects within one large society--could get along, regardless of differences.
"I feel like this is third grade, when someone called you a name and then started crying and told the teach"
Well, call me sensitive, but even as a kid, I never did something so juvenile as to call someone a name (or worse) just for being who they are. People who do that deserve what punishments they get, honestly.
Maybe it is because I was one of the good kids who obeyed the school rules and thus, was picked on and even ostricized from group games by my peers as a result (therefore causing me to sympathize with my fellow underdogs), but I really stand by the Golden Rule of treating others as you would want them to treat you & since no one would willingly want someone to treat them like second-rate scum (unless they already of a sick mind), people ought to be nice & get along, despite differences.
What about those of the working poor who do work their asses off only to not be able to make end's meat (not just due to the economy now, but because of the tried and sad truth statistic of "the rich are getting richer, the poor are getting poorer, and the middle class is getting squeezed").
"Thus, the sacred territory of individual thought is maintained, and no one is left discarded. I don't hate anyone. But to restrict the extent to which I may express my opinion is an assault."
But sometimes--depending on the situation--this assault, as you put it, can be a good thing, just like how sometimes, violence can only be stopped with more violence, as disturbing as that sounds.
"It is, by definition, uncivilized to IMPOSE civility"
That's hypocritical in itself, though. However, it is the only real way to end hurtful bias of any sort, because no matter what, there will always be hateful people in the world.
But do you not agree that such slander SHOULD be dealt with? It IS what caused suicides, rape, and various other sorts of horrific damage.
"It cannot be enforced through courts, policies, or self-appointed thought police such as yourself"
The hell it can't, because majority rules, remember? I'm not saying it's right, given how courts themselves have proven inhumane, but it is how the country works.
"I have never voiced hate, just light-hearted puns, which I will admit were not even very funny." Then why say them? You knew they weren't funny and you knew that someone was bound to say something about them, so why do it?
I know what bias is, thanks. "If I'm not free to have my bias, what will you liberals take next? My guns?" They've limited gun control. "Cigarettes?" They pretty much have banned public smoking. "Big breasted women?" This is something women can't help. "God?" People who are anti-religion have tried, and thank heavens, have not fared well in this endeavor. "Don't fall victim to your own bias against biases you don't like." Even if it's for a just reason?
"Everyone needs to be mocked, lest they take themselves too seriously."
Not if it's a beloved institution known the world over. There is a difference between flattering imitation via tasteful parodies (ex: subtle adult humor in children's shows of the 90's) and outright insulting slander that some people consider "art" (the MTV generation of current crap--including [adult swim]--that demeans not only cultural icons, but real-life people as well).
"who realize that every opinion is as unique and important"
Not if it's biased. Granted, everyone has bias--which we cannot help, what with being raised as we are--but even so, we can curb it by treating others with the respect, care, dignity, and rights all living beings should be entitled to.
"I am simply voicing my opinion on a few fuzzy guys with hands up their butts (whom I learned to love)"
LOL; But seriously, that's how hand puppets--or Muppets--operate. Can't really help that.
rainofatoms: I am heterosexual, but I do have gay and lesbian friends and I don't take kindly to having their orientations mocked. Plus, to the creators who brought them to life & the fans who have sustained their existance, The Muppets are real despite being puppets.
rainofatoms: The thing is...Sesame Workshop (formerly Children's Television Workshop), Jim (and now, Steve) and Frank have said that Ernie and Bert are just good friends who are roomates, nothing more & nothing less. Indeed, the values these characters impart are universal and as such, it shouldn't matter what orientation--if Muppets have orientations, that is--the characters would have.
rainofatoms: And what should it matter what orientation they are? They're institutional teachers and almost like family to countless generations (likewise for all of Henson's work).
"Though I'd like to look down at the Earth from above, I would miss all the places and people that I love. So, although I may go, I'll be coming home soon, 'cause I don't want to live on the moon. No, I don't want to live on the moon."
So beautiful!
RIP Jim Henson (Kermit, Ernie, Cantus, Convincing John, etc.)
RIP Richard Hunt (Don Music, Junior Gorg, Hoots the Owl, etc.)
I always loved Ernie and I hated the political correctness he's been painted with. I never thought there was something dodgy about them being in the same room
I feel the same way...now everyone thinks as they would now, not as they would have when their minds were not jaded. I love Sesame street, as does my six year old boy. =)
This is a sad song i really miss the 90s so much i wish i could go back in time to look at the moments i missed so much

"I thought the color of your skin didn't matter"
It shouldn't, but people judge based on appearance, political stance, religious beliefs (or lack thereof), gender, and various other factors, sadly.
"We are one Race the Human Race."
Tell that to those exams that tell you to be a race to be (white, hispanic, african american, et al).
"So how can any of us be Racist?"
Segregation and slavery, along with women's sufferage and such things ring any bells?

This is the most saddest song ever.

rainofatoms: The thing is...Sesame Workshop (formerly Children's Television Workshop), Jim (and now, Steve) and Frank have said that Ernie and Bert are just good friends who are roomates, nothing more & nothing less.

RIP Jerry Juhl (head creative producer for FR)

I always loved Ernie and I hated the political correctness he's been painted with. I never thought there was something dodgy about them being in the same room

I feel the same way...now everyone thinks as they would now, not as they would have when their minds were not jaded. I love Sesame street, as does my six year old boy. =)

"I feel the same way...now everyone thinks as they would now, not as they would have when their minds were not jaded."
Not everyone. Some of us adults touched by Jim's work have never lost certain childlike qualities.
