there are much more professional ways of doing what this guy just did and there are other ways into a garage if someone is so inclined to do so. i locked myself out one time and got in my old garage with nothing but my driver's license. i have never stolen anything in my life nor will i but if you know how something works you can circumvent it with a bit of brain power. the POINT is if someone really wants to get in they will..... and THATS why we have guns to deter those actions!
You realize this wouldn't work on a garage door with windows right? All you have to do is smash the window and cut the zip tie or coat hanger. People with windows on the garage door would have to cut off the metal arm, that is the only way. Leave a little material left on the arm for pliers or channel locks to lock on if you need to use the release.
If you need the garage door opener to operate during a power outage. Liftmaster actually builds an opener that has a battery backup.
Another thing to do is to make sure that the operator arm that connects the opener to the door is as close to a 90 degree angle (straight up and down) as it can get when the door is closed. This will prevent someone from being able to pry the door open from the bottom as the arm would then just push straight up into the opener rail rather than sliding backward
When there is a power failure or a fire it will be difficult to find a pair of wire cutters or scissors especially at night. If a fireman needs to get into the garage and the Emergency Release lever is not operating properly he will have to cut it into pieces. And if anyone gets injured you might be liable for not having it operating properly.I just purchased THE GARAGE SHIELD.It only took me 2-minutes to install and it was really inexpensive! And my Emergency Release lever is operational!!

Great idea using the tie wraps. Easier to cut if you need to open the door during power failure.
Thanks for posting.
