I was about 16 when this abum came out. Between my 3 older sisters and me, we played it over and over for like a year. It would drive my dad crazy, but after several months he finally started to appreciate theri talent. He especailly liked "Something" (on the flip side.
I cry. Every time. No idea why, either, but by the time The End slows down, I'm just in tears. What a great set of solos, what a great finale to a masterful album (and career, if you don't count Let it Be).
Listen to 4:00 when the guitar solo starts. You will here three different guitar solos, each about 4 seconds long. Liten close, you can tell the three apart. The sharper sound is Paul McCartney's solo, then the higher pitched solo is George Harrison, and the final, fuzzy, distorted sound is John Lennon's solo. They repeat each other a few times, Paul, George, John, Paul, George, John, etc until "and in the end..." is sung. Listen close, you can hear each play their own solos, merged into one
My appreciation and awe was solidified after attempting to play Paul's bass runs and singing...the man was a genius at a very young age. Put his heart and soul into the music and it definitely shows! There will never be such a band in all the history of the world to come! Love the Beatles!!!
@GameCherryDotCom For me, personally, it is the best ever. The horns and that whole part in "Carry that Weight" that bring "You Never Give Me Your Money" into the mix of the medley - that tells you that the wave of consciousness that Paul was working from at the time was something special. Plus, this medley (minus "Her Majesty) is comprised of the best phrases that, when combined, start and end a song. (I consider it to be one song.)
lovely. the end is beautiful and an amazing song. but it should have been the ending track. It's quite obviously a song you should use as a 'big finish', but then her majesty kicks in and takes away the vibe. shame, really.
@FretLegendSmithy I've always felt the same way, but it was The Beatles' decision. Besides, I do kind of like the way the song kind of mocks how serious all of the previous songs were with its light whimsicality. It's kind of like The Beatles were poking fun of themselves. : )
@FretLegendSmithy I actually think that it was great that they placed 'Her Majesty' there. They had already made a "big finish" ending on 'Sgt. Peppers...', And 'Her Majesty' just adds that humorous touch that makes The Beatles so ingenious.
I absolutley adore Please Please Me and Abbey Road. Those are the most enjoyable albums as a whole. They do it for me. They're brilliant and you can listen from beginning to end. Especially Abbey Road, there's no songs you wanna skip at all. I love these guys
@serpent918 Oh yeah, indeed, I just wrote that because these 3 tunes are Paul's but of course I can go to Come Together or Something and say the same with the others names ;)
@mclovin1972 "Her Majesty" opens with the final, crashing chord of "Mean Mr. Mustard", while the final note of "Her Majesty" remained buried in the mix of "Polythene Pam". This is the result of "Her Majesty" being snipped off the reel during a rough mix of the medley. The cut in the medley was subsequently disguised with further mixing although "Her Majesty" was not touched again and still appears in its rough mix. Subsequently, it was one of the first "hidden tracks" of rock history.
@uniquetricks lol it was like one of those thingys like ,How Short is that dress? or how ugly is her face?!? it slike that :D thanx 4 answering inywatz tho
it is, it was first going to be put more in the middle of the medley but at the last minute it was cut out and put at the end, hence the last note being missing (except in this they added the last note with enrages me lol)
What a voice McCartney had. He could sing lovely ballads with unadorned emotion and shout out rock tunes like Little Richard. He could sing the sweetest harmonies with John and George. All while playing intricate, melodious bass runs.
i only give you my invitations is a typo, hate to point it out, but i was enjoying the song and seen it . they say in the song i only send you my invitations
how dare they add the last note on the end! The missing note always gave me a feeling that the Beatles would never finish, that it would live on forever <3
Everyone say Justin Biebers better then the Beatles............. well you know those people must have sold their souls to the devil because justin bieber sucks!
YOu never give me your money was about them not getting a raise-which is why paul sold beatles song rights to mj for more money but mj rippedh im off-You've go to carry that weight-about the heavy atmoshphere in Apple Corps. The End- based on how shakespeare would always end his plays with a rhyme and thats how u would know(love you make is equal to the love you take) Her Majesty was to surprise the fans cuz it wasnt written on the album and was after the end
Justin Bieber is finally releasing his long-awaited CD of Beatles covers from the Abbey Road album. Critics, including Sir George Martin, proclaim it is an improvement on the original Beatles tunes!
@TheRealSixthBeatle (from wiki)McCartney decided that the sequence did not work and the song was edited out of the medley by Abbey Road Studios tape operator John Kurlander. He was instructed by McCartney to destroy the tape, but EMI policy stated that no Beatles recording was ever to be deleted. The 14 secs of silence between The End and Her Majesty are the result of Kurlanders lead out tape added to separate the song from the rest of the recording.
looking at the level they reached with this album, can anyone else think of other artists who keep such an amazing degree of quality for so many albums? only 7 years recording in the studio but the work load was such that they did a lot in a short time. this album was my first buy deep in my heart. very, very special.
why the f did you put a chord at the end of "her majesty?" the song ends with one note, not with someone forty years later playing a (badly recorded) chord.
@tkamps64 Nono, that was really Ringo's. True is that it was recorded several times and some of them played Paul, but the one on the record is Ringo's.
They Do you never give me your money twice in the whole medley and I thought that they used Maxwells Silver hammer or the song the End bcuz in the geame its Golden Slumbers/Carry Tht Weight/The End
@wishbone60619 He screwed over Paul McCartney, when he did that! Paul was the one that told him that the catalogue was about to be available and MJ outbid Paul. I think MJ was an ass for doing it!
The Beatles recorded some of the very best music in rock history and this "end " is like the hand of God was in them all . Such a shame they drifted apart , just imagine all the great music they did as solo artists recorded as the Beatles . I grew up in the 60's & 70's and everyday was new awesome music by many artists and the Beatles where the best of them all . PERIOD !
Love when George, John, and Ringo reply back to Paul with, "Carry That Weight," as he wanted to keep the band going, but the rest of them were done. Also, the guitar licks they shared in, "The End.". Just classic.
The lines 'Sleep pretty darling, do not cry' are so easy to say, but when Paul sings it in this way it sounds so special, like no one could ever come up with these words.
Someone changed the ENDING! it doesn't resolve. THIS IS WRONG! Her majesty doesn't have that final chord in there, and whoever edited in that last note did it pretty poorly. Boo!
I didn't realize this was their last album until I read Derek Taylor's book, The Love you Make, probably because it was released before Let it Be. I was devasted when they broke up, but they did release alot of albums in such a short time. Their music will live on forever! And my love for them will never wane.
@keaster55 The last recorded album was Abbey Road (and it's obviously done in that spirit - gradating, bit funny, more melancholic and (for me) a bit sad...
The last issued album was Let It Be (there were difficulties with the sound and mixing, therefore it was released more than 8 months later).
And the last recorded song was I Me Mine - already without John. On April 2, 1970.
And in the End - on April 10, 1970 was announced by Paul that The Beatles are no more...
@cortez42 I just watched the Beatles Anthology again and according to it, this was their last album recorded. They did not like the Let It Be album, so they didn't release it until after Abbey Road. It was recorded in a not very good studio and they were video recording it with all their in-fighting. They were about to break up, but George insisted that they record one more album. And this was it.
i pity people as vapid, clueless, & empty headed as all of you appear. maybe one day you'll see how utterly ignorant you sound.good luck on getting a brain, all of you. try looking for the yellow brick road & seeing the wizard, you probably believe thats real too.
About "And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make":
"In his 1980 interview with Playboy, John Lennon acknowledged McCartney's authorship by saying, "That's Paul again ... He had a line in it, 'And in the end, the love you get is equal to the love you give,' which is a very cosmic, philosophical line. Which again proves that if he wants to, he can think."
but he probable ment John, who lost his marbles getting involved with Yoko (N)ono. He was never leftish untill he met this avant-gardiste who was nothing but fake. What did she ever accomplish, but blowing up the Beatles and brainwashing poor John, with his bad childhood. Poor, poor John. She drove him....mad?
I was about 16 when this abum came out. Between my 3 older sisters and me, we played it over and over for like a year. It would drive my dad crazy, but after several months he finally started to appreciate theri talent. He especailly liked "Something" (on the flip side.

I was devasted when they broke up, but they did release alot of albums in such a short time. Their music will live on forever! And my love for them will never wane.

@keaster55 I can reccomend you another book - my Holy Bible - "Revolution in the Head" by Ian MacDonald. Amazing!

@TheRealSixthBeatle and the last time that all four Beatles were in the recording studio together was during I Want You(She's So Heavy).

I love how You Never Give Me My Money comes back into the medley in the middle of Carry That Weight.

This album is just amazing! I think the only downside is that is seems to end almost when it begins. Short but sweet:)
