@bastardgear8 Some people say that Anti-Flag sold out for a while, but because they didn't go as far as Green Day they were able to bring themselves back, and I agree with that, but Green Day is much too far in to the pop genre to stage a comeback. Billy Joe admitted that Green Day had changed too much. I'm sure if it was up to him he would've tried to keep his punk roots, but I have a feeling it was the label.

Sure they ain't as good as they used to be, but who the fuck would want a stale band of 40 year olds singing about the same shit that they did on Dookie and stuff. If anything, they went too far on Warning and then came back on American Idiot, however poppy it was. I think the would have left the label if they felt a push to "sell-out" They already have money from Dookie, why would they need more?

Plus once you're signed to a label you're signed for a certain amount of time. It's difficult for a band to switch labels, even once their contract expires, because all of their old material is still property of the previous label and it's a hassle to get rights to that.

It seems whenever a band, (punk especially) gets popular, they get called sell outs, even though most of them aren't. A good example of a sell out, is Good Charlotte. They completely turned their back on the scene they came from and just went for the money. Green Day just changed, and it happened to be popular. But, my opinion.
