I'm american , I stay in romania alot. I understand the movie , I understand why and how. It was during a time when things were very different.As there was a time in America when things like this occured. Any person from any country would enjoy this movie.
This movie reminds me of Caché. Both are slow, meticulous, and masterful. Intense in the worst way possible, realistic. That's what makes both movies so good.
Good film. Well acted. I thought they would have ended it with the Blonde getting pregnant. Is it the abortionist's, her boyfriend's? What is she going to do? Look at camera.
one of the most deserved Palm d'Ox winners, one of the best Cannes films, and one of the bets I have ever seen. Bravo European Cinema! Proud to be European
don't know if anyone else saw l'enfant but this remind really reminded me of that one. mostly the scenes of walking, no score, foreign language, and have to do with getting rid of a baby. l'enfant came out in 05 so i can see how cristian mungiu got some influences and ideas from that movie. but this one, very good. i'll have to watch it again on dvd incased i missed anything but definitely a big thank you for putting this up.
I've just realized that the relationship of Otilia and Gabriela is in fact an illustration of socialism. Smart, able people unconditionally helping stupid and careless ones. It seems that in the end Otilia realised that "doing good to base fellows is like throwing water into the sea".
@estimisav i saw Requiem for a dream, way shocking, but the message is not as profound as in this film. Congratulations to Cristian Mungiu. We're proud of you!
@estimisav Except contraception was illegal... We don't even know how the girl got pregnant, she could have been raped for all we know or taken advantage of, considering how absent-minded and naive she is during the movie.
3 things. One: thanks a hell of a lot for the uploader, great movie. Two: People who said the abortion man was mean, you were wrong. if you were in his situation you would do anything not to be fucked over with, that includes being very defensive and suspicious from the beginning. Three: the girl who got an abortion was such a colossal bitch if i was in the shoes of the girl who helped her, i'd end the relationship right away. What a little asswipe. Not even a "THANK YOU".
@Atheist269 What movie were you watching? What did 'the abortion man' do to get a compensation for the lack of money? In case you missed the movie....he satisfied his sexual appetite using a terrified woman as forms of EXTRA payment. By the way...the girl that got the abortion did in fact say thank you in the movie. Plus, I got a feeling her helping friend owed her a favor.
If you had paid any attention then you would have noticed that the man was just doing his job. The man didn't satisfy any sexual appetite; He inserted a metal rod to kill a fetus. If you think that has anything to do with sexual appetite i'm afraid you're a little lost. By the way the girl in fact never said any form of REAL thank you. Barfing a quiet 'thank you' somewhere in the movie almost unnoticedly isn't what i call being greatful. I suggest you rewatch.
oh so you "got a feeling" that she owed her a favor? I'm sorry but that's a load of bullshit. Also, according to the movie she was still underpaying. I'm sorry, what movie were YOU watching?
You missed the most intense part of the movie. Watch the part where 'the abortion man' is about to leave and the blond woman tells him to stop as she is getting undressed for him. Then the woman goes into the bathtub and washes herself after having sex with him. Well?
damn lol i think you're right. i saw this movie on youtube... and sometimes when a part video went to the next part it skipped some... time... i never thought it would be significant time.... okay my bad man, i guess you are right. :\
@Atheist269 dude... the guy wasn't suspicious or anything... it is subtle, I did not get it the first time I saw this movie and now I feel like a colossal idiot for missing it but.... the guy was faking it! he just wanted to have sex with the two girls; and he did; he wasn't suspicious or cautious he was manipulative;
she did say thank you; but yeah she is an asswipe;
he made such a case about the receptionist getting his ID and at the end she left it there.. among other clues
Could anyone tell me what the name of the song playing in the background during this scene is, and also the name of the song playing during the closing credits? Thank you!
@Neonman78 I don't think Americans would click with this movie; they can't emphasize with the characters, with people that need an abortion and they're in an anti-abortion country;
they could use this movie for the pro-choice stand, or make a political clip form it; but an actual movie? naah.... how would they do it? when they remade lat den ratte komma in, they just re-imagined the settings and characters as americans, with the same exact story;
@bbphnix Thats a pretty low opinion of Americans. The movie shouldnt be remade but rather left in its original form . The whole movie left me numb, I dont know if the girl that had the abortion was in shock or just a cold person but this last scene bothered me immensely . Movies like this arent made to be box office hits rather its a message.
@Neonman78 where the story could be anywhere; how would they put americans in the situation where they had abortion made ilegal... placing in the pre-roe vs wade time? didn't they have abortion legal in some states even then?
besides, Hollywood doesn't remake a movie unless there's cash potential; lat den ratte komma in is about vampires and american love vampires; in any way shape or form;
This is a great film,it made me use my imagination and absorb my own fears,but it ended a bit abrubtly i thought but then so does life,so in that sense it worked,thankyou for uploading....
How much responsibilities you can put on your friend? That went far too far - no 'thank you', no 'sorry', just lies and expectations - as if it was normal. This would be the end of their friendship.
As you can see , I think the menu is a main point of symbolism . The woman who was pregnant seems as if she is trying to repress the abortion . The blonde seems remorseful .
the film ended like this because the conclusion is, in my view: ....they could never be friends again after this happend between them...it's like a remember for life when they ever see eachother anywhere and anytime....
This is the second film---the fist one, the argentinian film, The Offical History---in the last couple of weeks that has deeply moved me.
