So our tutorial class is watching this video to analyse the various teaching and learning theories being exhibited here, but what I don't get is if I should be taking note only of Rita or all the characters in the movie... Help?!
I want to be in Rita's place - I 'm in love with English literature but where I live it t is not taught and if you want to earn a living you have to stick to a course of economics-and even that won't always grant you security.
@jcgalad What do you mean literature is NOT taught where you live? That's outrageous! Literature is the basis of any decent education - I hope you're exaggerating ..
Apparently the "not a lot of people know that" at the end of the scene was a genuine ad lib by Caine; somebody decided it was too funny not to be included in the final cut.
"what does it benefit a man if he gaineth the whole of literachure yet loseth his soul? ha ha!" - best line in the whole damn film! and caine's here is one of the best portrayals of a sad old drunk in any damned film as well!
At this point, the bitch is getting on me nerves...hell, an encyclopedia is full of facts and figures, yet it doesn't understand those fs &fs...just like this goofy bitch, whose tone of voice at this point, would have drove me to strangle her if I'd had to listen to her for over a minute.
@catshaveteats Frank responds in the play, 'So he wasn't actually suggesting it was superior?' Rita - 'Not at first - but then he did.He walked right into it.' Then the film picks up with 'And you finished him off did you Rita?'
I don't know why they cut out those few lines, as you say, there's nothing wrong with expressing a preference!

I guess at the time it was, at least a little bit.
I'm Italian and I remember reading some stuff of the 1950s, in which a woman argued that at 26 unmarried women are *not* spinster ! ;-D
