I'll have to admit that, although he's a great Doctor, 11 is not THE Doctor. Let me explain. The Daleks, the most fearsome creatures in all the universe and the only species The Doctor is afraid of, but in Series 6, he basically walks to him and say "Hello Dalek". Also, I didn't feel as much emotion for Matt as I do for David. Not necessarily the actors, maybe just the writing. I don't feel anything for the companions anymore, either. Cant help but want RTD to return.
@TheAfroThunder1 I don't think it was necessarily the writing. I think Smith had much better writing, but Tennant did an amazing job with what he as given.
Ahaha I thought this was really clever. And oh how I LOVE clever :D and I gotta say Matt sounded like a bad ass at that scene and David. Well he's always cool. I find it extremely hard to rate each doctor..
Tennant had a build up of crazy anger that was frightening. Smith has a calm demeanor...then an insane burst of anger that's startling. Gah I like Tennant's anger better.
Tennant and Smith are both incredible. Tennant was an angrier doctor with some humor and Smith was a funny doctor with some anger. The contrast between the two keeps the show fresh after all these years.
Which is exactly the point of the whole regeneration plot point! The idea is that, by changing actors, and having them each portray the same character in their own special way, is what keeps the show fresh and what expands its audience. So everyone has a Doctor they like!
@arcanum101 Well... You'll be happy to know then that on the Paul O'Grady show, David Tennant said he wouldn't mind kissing Matt Smith. ^_^ The video on YouTube is called "David Tennant on Paul O Grady Show" by TheDoctorWhoMedia.
@DC11961 I'm actually more of an Eleven/River supporter. ^^ I like the canon pairings in this show. So it might actually irritate me if they did that, to be honest.
@arcanum101 That Would Be Epic. Though, I seriously dout that they will ever get David Tennant back, no matter how much we all loved him. But I would love for him to guest star!
@YourWorstNightmareSy Ooh, you're right. It would actually be kind of stupid for them to ignore that obvious plot. Now, if they can get Tennant to come back for a bit, as a special or something, maybe?
I started watching not long ago at all like since September but I've seen all the Matt smith stuff and thought I LOVED him 4 sure he was so SEXY then I look up David tennant and see him and I died he was sexier to me and when they get mad I def have to say David wins this round
You almost had me. Then I realized somefin'. Cue the Dr. Who, something-good-is-happening music: Dun. dun. dun. dara dara dara dadun. Dun. dun. dun. dara dara dara dadun.
Of course 10 is not listening; he no longer exists in the universe that matters. Matt Smith wins. Phew. Crisis averted.
BTW: I'm mostly ambivalent towards the Matt Smith vs David Tennant debate. I have been commenting because I'm a little pissed that this video found a way to invade 8 seconds of my life.
@pbjellybeanful In the end, Ten was an arrogant, self centered little boy who went out all teary eyed and crying. And this vid just makes him look more like a bratty kid who doesn't want to listen to daddy. Nine went out like the Doctor should: "I'm dying and you're never going to see me again.....but you know what? We were fantastic!!" Smiles and regenerates.
@JimmyDaKoik no, i wouldn't say that at all. I think David was amazing, and he did a great job as the doctor. I actually really liked the way he regenerated, and it's not so much about the doctor not wanting to change bodies, i think it was kind of partially related to David leaving, and they added that part in to the show. I think David was awesome, but i like Matt a tiny bit more.
@pbjellybeanful David had some brilliant moments, but overall his entire run reeked of "shtick", unlike Eccelston's. They over did David's departure big time, and future audiences, who were not there in first run, will wonder why there's this long drawn out, teary eyed ending for Tennant. Especially for Americans, who're far more aware of the show now, under Matt Smith, than they ever were for Tennant.
@JimmyDaKoik I do agree with you when you say people who weren't there for the first run would wonder why, but it was still a very powerful moment. It doesn't have to do with David's overall performance, though, because he was great and he made the doctor have an insane personality and he had some really dark moments that were just amazing. He really brought out the doctor in a way we haven't really seen, so i give him props.
@pbjellybeanful Oh, I give him props for his brilliant moments. But his run is not aging well because of the overly shouty, wacky and zany antics. His quieter moments are the ones that will be remembered favorably. And he comes off as "acting" whereas Eccelston and Smith seem more natural to the part. Loud, shouty people work on t.v., but are not believable or tolerable in the real world. And the loud, shouty stuff really stands out more and more on each re-watch.
@JimmyDaKoik He was my first Doctor, but not my favorite. When I watched Eccleston (later Jon Pertwee and Baker) and then went back to Tennant, he irritated me a lil' bit. I figured out why recently. He expressed urgency by squeaking into the higher octaves and flailing his arms. Powerful moments occurred when he got off his high-piched horse (from whence he gave those obnoxious sermons) and went on an acting journey involving the evolution of emotions and well placed silence.
@pbjellybeanful It wasn't really for David. It was Russell T Davies and the rest of the production team sucking their own dicks. Not only was it self-indulgent, but it was a really mean-spirited move against Steven Moffat and Matt Smith. They subliminally planted the idea that Ten didn't want to go in the viewers' head, thus drumming up a hailstorm of hatred against Matt... before he even took to the role.
@ItsSomeDeadGuy ok, i agree with that since it did make people not like Matt only because he's not david, but it seemed like you didn't like david, even though he's actually a really good doctor. But yeah, i know what you mean
@pbjellybeanful I think there were many people, I know about 3, who didn't like Tennant because he wasn't Eccleston. @ItsSomeDeadGuy I disagree. I never really loved Tennant as Doc, but I I did feel like his farewell episodes were better than some of the other crap they had been doing. His reaction to the four knocks was great. His hissy fit was OK because I saw it as a one time thing for THE Doctor. I didn't like Matt @ first, but it wasn't b/c of 10.
@zukezukone Tennant was not immediately loved. Many people were not happy about Eccleston leaving and being replaced by a "weaselly" looking guy. And yes, people actually said that. My roomie kept wondering if they'd bring Eccleston back if the new guy didn't work. I told him "no, it doesn't work that way...they always move forward". Like most Doctors, people gave Tennant a chance and found >surprise!!!< he was alright. Most fans against Smith are nuWho noobs, not long time fans.
@JimmyDaKoik I saw Tennant first and I had my doubts as to whether or not I was going to like that "weaselly" looking doctor. I thought the show had something so I forgave his weaselliness. Once I had seen Eccleston, I developed a lingering affection for him that, if left unchecked, would rival that of Tennant fanboys. (Early in my exposure to both, my sister asked who I thought was the better in the role. I though she liked Tennant, but she smirked when I said Eccleston.)
@zukezukone Having had that said, I will follow Tennant's career and probably not Eccleston's. I wonder if that makes me more of a true Tennant fan compared to those who will not let him move on. I mean I owe it to him for not liking his Doctor that much. Eccleston's stuff may not be for me, but he played one hell of a Doctor... I guess I am not a true Eccleston fan. Awe shucks.
Sidenote: I feel like time playing the role is key to amassing a fan base - Baker and Tennant.
@JimmyDaKoik I have to agree that Ten went out like a whiny crybaby. You know who went out like a champ? David Tennant's idol, Five (AKA Peter Davison). He was a meek, fallible Doctor... for most of his run. The ultimate contradiction of this was at the very end in The Caves of Androzani. He sacrifices his life for a woman that he's barely met. No "I don't want to go!"s, not even a smile. He does it because he has to... and he comes very close to dying during his regeneration.
Hahaha, second episode of DW that I ever watched. First was "The King's Demons" which I watched prior to "The Idiot's Lantern" in a hotel room some years back.
Almost as good as this line "I'm talking and your being a dumbass" (a girl to the most annoying guy in our class when everyone was telling him to shut up when he was being a moron and she was correcting him) Love it, there could be a nine/ten of this as well.
@ItsSomeDeadGuy Yes, the writing had a tendency to suck a little bit especially during Tennant's run. They made Daleks down right adorable (later annoying). And as much as Tennant screeched to the high winds at them, I couldn't take them seriously because they did as much as a pack of wild dogs, fenced in. With Eccleston I thought "This Retro alien is cute... wait why is he so scared. I'm scared too. Burn it! Whatever it is, for the love of God, kill it before it gets out!"
That was great, Tennant wins! Here are my 2 choices to be the 12th Doctor 1). Steve Valentine from Crossing Jordan & Estate of Panic. 2). Henry Ian Cusick from Lost. Either one would be better then Matt Smith In my opinion. Please check out both of their acting styles before you choose. Leave a comment with your thoughts! P.S Henry's always running In lost and has a bit of Tennant style mixed with Paul Mcgann!
When David starts shouting, Matt turns into Derek of EastEnders. Too epic for words.

Could you edit it without the dude that Tennant was talking to? Maybe throw in a clip of Smith being taken aback? But otherwise its hilarious.

matt is a total rockstar in that scene (ladies and gents, the original Trockstar.) Sorry David. Still love you baby.

Benedict cumberbatch should be the 12th doc.

@e7l13 He doesn't want to play the Doctor. He was even asked to audition for the 11th, but he turned it down.

Almost as good as this line "I'm talking and your being a dumbass" (a girl to the most annoying guy in our class when everyone was telling him to shut up when he was being a moron and she was correcting him) Love it, there could be a nine/ten of this as well.

LOVE it! David T wins ! :P <3

Good to see that I wasn't the only one who thought this while watching it!
That being said, Eleven > Ten.

@okkero Well, I love them all, but Tennant had the tendency to overact. The writing in a great deal of his episodes sucked too.
ItsSomeDeadGuy 3 months ago
