I'm going to be honest, I didn't like the look of 'In Time'. I think he should stick to using film because 'No Country For Old Men' and 'The Assassination of Jesse James' are superb. I even use them both as reference blu-ray quality. Anyway he's one of the greatest cinematographers working in the industry, right up there head to head with Emmanuel Lubezki.
Does anyone know what this weird dark halo is around Roger's head and Hands? You can really see it around 21:00. Just watch the edges of his hands. Some video exposure automation, maybe?
@osprid It's a window they put there in post to try to bring down the exposure of his hair and see details. The Whole picture is quite overexposed I guess
@sundance37 Lol right? Very funny that the camera man was needlessly zooming in and out of Roger's face during a discussion on unmotivated camera movement. As Roger said: Why?
Who is the imbecile interviewing Roger...my grandmother could have done a better job...and she's dead! I love the moment at 24.22 where it looks like roger is so close to ending the interview.
So many reasons to call him my favorite cinematographer. His visions are so clear and communicated so effectively that people don't notice what an impact his images give us as viewers. I'm dying to meet him!
I can't stand the interviewer's voice, I love Roger Deakins, but to listen to that interviewer's voice and mmhmm mhhmm for 30 minutes is a little unbearable.
I want to have a beer with Roger Deakins, I want to shove a sock in this idiot reporter's mouth, and I want to break the lens servo on this camera. The op clearly didn't hear Deakins' thoughts on camera movement.
He's amazing, he was nominated for best cinematography in the same year for No Country for old men and Jesse James. He's brilliant, i really hope he wins for True Grit.
This man is amazingly humble and incredibly generous with his sharing of knowledge. One of the finest cinematographers in the history of film making and he acts as if he's just another Joe trying to do ok. I am such a huge fan and became even a bigger fan after this interview.
So incredibly humble. My hero.

It's the look of one movie, sounds like the Arri Alexa just wins against film according to him.

What's with the distracting camera work? You guys started recording before the equipment was set up?

Warms my heart.
His philosophical approach to film making is so inspiring. Words cannot describe the amount of respect I have for Roger.

A great interview. I liked how Deakins was into it. An exceptional cinematographer, he communicates exactly what he feels.
