  • The positive about the split is that it comes in right at my favourite bit!

  • Definitely my favorite movement ! Wonderful! And to see this in person has no price !

  • I love it, wonderful, I can´t describe it...

  • repiten cuando quieren, pero suena bien

  • Великолепно!!!

  • AAAAA+++++++

  • Great...Thx!

  • the end was so sad that it hurt...

    And the light fades away..:

"Es ist das Licht nur noch kurze Zeit bei Euch.

    Wandelt,

derweil das Licht noch bei euch ist,

damit die Dunkelheit euch nicht überfalle."

    Johannes

  • more than unlimit

  • The best part of this composition ... it's simply wonderful :').

  • 2.50-4.00 - gorgeous...

  • @MCtheMD You are so right. You have identified the section where the listener is truly ... transported. Nothing like it.

  • This is my favorite of them all :D

  • Is not Schoenberg.. is Schubert..

  • Ahhhh.......I like Schoenberg!

    (JK)

  • every time I hear this part, it gets better, and better

  • @lriccc its a masterpiece, thats why! every time there is still a part you havent fully understood, so you apreciate it better next time!

  • that was so beautiful. and really dark for Schubert <3

  • Well, he had just seen his baby cousin die, and found out he was dying from syphillis... have read that the second to third movement is the defining moment of the romantic - no happy schertzo to balance. Music just got personal ;-)

  • 3:26 is a great great part!!! Love it!

  • Good taste!

  • The composition, melody, and orientation of this piece are those of great achievement. Schubert is one of my most favorite musical composers, and this is just one of his few beautiful compositions that justifies that opinion.

  • @GlassColors Such a damn shame he died so young : (

This and his unfinished. . .can't get enough of them.

  • Very nice, one of my favorites too.

  • excellent and misteriously beautiful page this 2nd movement wrote by the lieder king, Schubert, but not only his quartets, but also his symphonies, his lieder, his sacred music, were masterpieces, a pity he wasn't well recognized during his lifetime as one of the greatest composer that has ever lived, AVE MARIA!

  • Is it just me or does the last minute or so of this clip remind anyone else of the second movement of Beethoven's Appassionata?

  • try beethoven's 131 6th and 7th movement..almost quite as nice as this one..btw...one of the best performances of this string quartett is done by the takacs quartett...superb!the cello in this 2nd part!listen to the cello at 3.20 - 3.36..best cello part ever!

  • I definitely agree about Beethoven's 14th string quartet... the 7th movement is my favorite!! I love the Yale quartet recording of a while back.

  • Well, I personally think saying anyone's piece is better than a late Beethoven piece is heresy (just kidding :P but really Beethoven was the best). But this is very good. The string quartet you mention I like better, along with his other late string quartets, like no 13 and the Grosse Fuge.

I don't know about how the Takcas quartet does this, but their performance of Beethoven is abominable. Alban Berg is much better.

  • I know what you mean, of course Beethoven his late quartets are the greatest pices of chamber music ever written, hands down..still this little piece here is also quite good! I just love the raw emotion..for me that's the greatest quality in Schubert's work..it's never overdone, it's never just for himself, it's for the world..everybody..that's art to me..that's what beethoven also achieved in his late quartets..

  • my favourite part...

  • very good in homage to the great violist Thomas Kakuska

  • Superbo, meraviglioso! Grande Schubert

  • This is beautiful, thanks for uploading.

  • beautiful performance

  • What form is this movement in?

  • Oh right. never mind

  • The second movement is a theme — taken from his macabre song Der Tod und Das Mädchen (D 531 in Deutsch's catalog) — and five variations, with coda. So kinda like a rondo.

  • Schubert is the best! :)

  • For this quartet, yes!))

  • amazing. I love Death and the Maiden and the Alban Berg is superb playing it.
