  • it's because the cameras FPS isn't fast enough to capture it. most "normal" digital cameras can capture up to 30fps, which is good enough for normal events. Lasers, smoke and mirrors aren't , but are extremely cool, Nice Video.

  • How do you spell the pattern name at 1:35. Thanks for the tips.

  • @techd Lissajous patterns. Enjoy

  • where do I get the mini laser progeter

  • Cool ideas! Thank you for taking the time to share them.

  • i need real thing like galvos making more than 20k cycles

  • cool, watch my lasershow ;)

    *thumps up*

  • pretty cool dude

  • where did you get those small mirrors at?

  • @PropheciesofWar look at handcrafting stores who got all that bling stuff. Also ebay is a good source. Use "Acrylic Mirror" or "Acryl Mirror" in the search.

  • Does the second miror also has an angle or is it flat?

I think that you can combain a velocity knob to each motor and get the same effect you get on the "Spenser gift" thing

    thanks in advance

  • @Barak24893 Yes, second mirror is also at an angle. The angle determines the size of the circle. I have thought of using a model helicopter pitch control to change the angle while it is turning... Speed control changes the pattern. I use my finger to slow one down with this model. Yes, the Spenser gift toy is the same...

  • @Starcross42 ok trying to get into making stuff like this was going to make a funnel gun or a spirograph but my red laser got mine from spencers had a green one but got a particle in it and ruined it but now the red one dimed down its no where near as bright as it was

  • what motor should you use for this, like what speed?

  • The motors should be able to do about 300 to 3000 RPMs. Any higher speed is fine too because the relative velocity matters. Mabuchi makes great cheap DC motors. Just go to eBay and search for "mabuchi dc motor".

  • thank you :D

  • what is that little device called that makes the spirograph

  • i just order a laser pointer. i cant wait to try these tricks...

  • were did you buy the laser box or whate ever it is because i want to do this in my room

  • I've always loved making my own laser shows with multiple lasers, mirrors and motors till I bought one from spencers that cost only 29.95

    In 2001.

I still have it and it still work with the same batteries!

  • I made this with a motor from a cellphone =D the vibrate thing :P

  • Those are great little motors. Take the weight off and it's a sweet motor.

  • i understand how we can use a motor to rotate a mirror, but i can't understand how can we put the right angle with a high precision out of a simple motor... Can you explain me?

  • how do you make the motors

  • i would like 2 get 1of those laser light thingie from spencers

    what's the name of it

  • Don't know if they still have this one. They do have some other things with lasers. Hey, Make your own.

  • Do you have to use a motor to get the tunnel effect?

  • yes but you would be suprised how easy it is to get one of those

  • Are Laser's effected by magnetic fields if laser beam is loop?

  • Einstein predicted that gravity could bend light, and it does. (he was pretty bright).

A magnetic field will bend a charged particle but light isn't charged. I'd say no, but I don't know everything. Experiment.

  • Thank,for the reply =D

I don't have the money at this time for Experiments.I was hoping you all ready have.

I was thinking it would becuase narrow wavelength of the light & you could loop the light like you said Gravitational Lensing,But could an phenomenon like Quantum - Double Slit Experiment.

  • Hi!

Where did you get those mirrors? I searched many websites but couldn't find anything.

  • look in the fake jewelry section of a craft store, or the craft section of walmart may have some

  • Ahh yur voice is so disturbing

  • cool

  • I use orbital harmonic frequencies to represent my balls!

  • change the shutter speed and you could make the gaps go away!

  • You would have to slow it down to less than 1/24th second. Lose some smoke detail that way. But thanks for the input.

  • A very nice educational video on homemade laser effects!! Thank you Starcross42. It was just what I've been searching for!!

  • Glad you liked it.

  • do you cut yor nalis dude

    their $#@* long

  • Seriously... THAT is your comment? If you have ever worked with fine electronics you know that you need fingernails to hold onto small wires and bits. But thanks for the constructive comment.

  • how many mW is your lasers. and when i get a 30 or 50 mW should i get safty dlasses for lasers

  • When you spread the beam out like this the power drops a lot. However the laser is a light and must be taken seriously. Especially with a 30 or 50mW laser!

  • how many mW is the toy

  • 5mW

  • ok thank also im tryinmg to make the second effect in this vifro but in side a 2 by 5 project box

  • cool video

  • That green laser you are using, it is 5MW? are all the lasers you use in this series that low power? How does the effect hold up in low light, not pitch black?

  • Yes, 5mW and it is nice.

    5 MW is a big laser... m = milli; M = mega

  • Very cool stuff. Thank you for your contribution to the "tubes"

  • You can do this with a oscillioscope :P

  • yes, the pattern is a combination of a x-axis frequency and a y-axis frequency. I saw it back in 1959 when my dad took me to his shop in the Air Force. It was a classic effect for Sci-Fi movies and every evil scientist or alien space ship had one. But to project it with a little pocket laser... now THAT is new. (because the pocket laser is new...)

  • Do you have any effects that don't need smoke?

  • All of these can be projected onto a screen.

Show 7 especially. But even this one shows the pattern onto a screen.

  • Thanks so much for your laser show tutorials, they have helped me design my own small laser show, which is tremendous, I hope to post videos soon!

  • Keep me informed. I'd like to see what you are doing.

  • I've seen all your videos and they are the best on youtube! Well edited, informative, and you are so cute.

  • this project is really cool, how do you securely attach the motors to the mirrors so they don't fly off?

  • dj from the west sends his thanks. These are very helpful for the new comers like myself. Thanks again for spreading the knowledge.

  • Glad to be helpful. When I worked with a band I controlled everything from the light board and used phone cords to get wires to my motors. Good luck.

  • Fun stuff! I've been making "spirograph" laser projectors for better than 15 years. Complex graphics require a computer to 'stear" the beam, but this is where it all started back in the 60s and 70s. lo-tec by todays standards, but still some of the best effects around! ;)

  • If you put a third spinning mirror it is called a "Thorton Scanner" and adds some amazing effects. One mirror can be steady speed and the other two need fine control on direction and speed. When I was doing workshops back in the early 80's I would bring that one. Very popular.

  • Yep! 3'rd motor adds even more interesting and complex patterns. Don't forget a beam chopper! pass the laser thru a small cross shaped "fan" on a motor so that the beam is blocked half the time. Put THAT motor on yet another variable speed control! ;)

  • Can I embed this video (credits given) in my instructible (look up laser image projector on instructibles) - I can't seem to put a link in these comments. I want to show a simple method of creating a moving pattern.

  • Feel free. I have 6 others...

  • hi, my cuestion is where did you got that kind of laser, i was trying with a cheap laser but doesnt work, can u tell what kind of laser i have to buy?

  • I have many lasers. Shown in the video is a 20mW green laser I got on ebay (70USD). But even a keychain red laser will work if the room is dark enough and the tunnel is smaller.

  • i've got the last laser to

  • A beautifully clear description. Thank you.

  • i like the last 1 =)

  • and later theres...running...and er....screaming

  • it sounds like he ses mires

  • you can get that at spencer's? whats it called?

  • The fog machine is found at spencer's. Actually, the small hand held unit can also be found at Spensers.

  • what do you think of the martin RGB Laser 1.6?, its amazing!

  • Yes. Very cool... But expensive.

And, to take full advantage of the laser you need computer driven galvanometers. even more money.

  • yep thats true i was planning on buying 2 or 2 for my dj rental equipment but nah i not sure...

ur videos are cool man and keep them comming

  • Thanks for the feedback. I do my best. I have a bunch more coming. How to send music across a laser beam...

  • cool! can u make a video of how to build a fog machine? i have some cause of my "job" but ive always wanted to know how they work, i kno the fluid gets heated and evaporates into fog, but i would love to know how to builf one! thx

  • Sorry. Spencer Gifts sells them so cheaply, I've never wanted to do this. There is a special pressure compartment that allows the fluid in, but also allows the high pressure fog out. Not easy.

  • you can do it with a iron and use of glycerine water mixture. I looked it up but for slightly more money you can have a much safer and effective fog machine. I bought a $40 dollar used one on ebay and its amazing. It is a Jem sharky 680W btw. I can fog a room so solid that u cant see the walls.

  • i dont know what u said but it was cool

  • cool

  • yra nice :)

  • superb
