@theringodd Yes very much...I just wish Radiohead realized that! They haven't come since 1998! No I don't blame them, they're great people..they care a lot about the environment.
@peteback Because that's what makes artists like Radiohead so unique and amazing in general. They are hidden gems in the music industry. And when you hear them it's a whole new amazing feeling that you can't find anywhere else because you know there is nothing else that can compare to them.
i honestly really dislike their Kid A and HTTT, amnesiac was all right but i was disappointed. In Rainbows blew my mind though, great album after OK Computer
@nutgobbler100 .!.(-.-).!. pablo honeys awesome...but i really dont have a favorite...its so hard to choose. right now i really into amnesiac and in rainbows. they reinvent themselves with every album i swear!!! radioheads too good...too good.
This is why I enjoy intimate shows in small venues so much more than big ones. It's a completely different mood here than their arena shows they're usually forced to do due to the sheer number of fans.
I like how the song begins with the line "you think you can drive me crazy", and ends with "we ride tonight, ghost horses"...which indicates obviously (at least to me) that he has finally lost his mind, with everyone dead around him, the enemies encircle him, but he's still ready for a fight...whew! that's heavy
@peteback c'mon there are bands that good: Sonic Youth Tortoise My Bloody Valentine got reunited just a couple of years back... Grizzly Bear,Panda Bear, Animal Collective, Fleet Foxes, Prefuse 73, Boards of Canada, Mogwai, NIN, High Places, Bjork, fuckin Sigur Ros, Amiina, Mum, Tame Impala, Chicago Underground Trio, The Dodos, Atlas Sound/deerhunter,bon iver, black keys, flaming lips....
and thats from the top of my hat im sure im letting many awesome bands ...
I dont know how many of you were there trying desperately to get in,...but i was,..the actual gig initially was at Rough Trade store in bricklane bt they had some sort of technical probs..so they had to move to 93 feet east...which is a very small venue! and everyone was following everybody, they got out Rough trade after interviews i could catch a glimpse and thats it...and then 2 hours queueing...i couldnt get in..and now seeing this video I want to cry cos i was out there..and i waited..
"im having a serious moment here" wow lol ive never seen thom joke in the middle of a song like that but its cool I would have loved to been there in such an intimate setting
thats true, really good song. its like electioneering from ok computer - brilliant song but somehow no one really notices it or talks about it that much
you cant say that one abulm is better then the other because their all totally different except maybe amnesiac and kid a. Pablo and amnesiac are to different styles of music one is a grungey rock abulm and the other alternative so therefore you too are wrong imitebwrong
One song doesn't make an album, you're right, I wasn't being that serious anyway. However, kid A also has National Antheme, Everything In It's Right Place, Morning Bell, Optimistic and How To Disappear Completly. In fact, the album as a whole is a complete masterpiece.
By the way, are you saying that Pyramid Song is a better song than Idioteque, or are you just being unrelevant?
i am saying that pyramid song is better than idioteque musically. saying anything else about one being better or worse than the other would be objective, but what i said is fact. pyramid song is technically genius and very VERY hard to reproduce
i <3 laughing at whiney bitches who think this music sucks (see below) sorry they dont have long black emo hair with their distortion settings on "10" and their musical abilities on "1". Did I mention they are using chords here?
i always wonder what artists think when they are singing a song and they have a few thousand people (although not in this case) blasting the lyrics back at them. It should almost give the feeling to Thom Yorke that he has the power he is always bashing others for having, i dunno.
I love amnesiac. When i first bought it I thought it was awful, even though I loved Kid A...then it grew on me. For a while it was my fav of thier albums, and I still put it up there...
In Rainbows was kinda htat way for me...it was almost "too easy" to listen to, if you know what I mean. It was about my third listen through it that I really began to love it. same with Muse's Origin of Symmetry, at first I thought it was a decent album, but now it's one of my fav albums ever.
It took a while for me too, mostly because the Kid A version is just amazing, and probably still slightly better in my opinion. Still, it grew on me eventually and then you can see the beauty in it. The frightening elements of the song are probably more obvious on Amnesiac for me.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
i'm not saying it's bad at all.... but come on, it's by far their worst. Even Pablo Honey is a fun album. Amnesiac is mostly depressing and more boring than their other albums. dont be tools.
Getup...if you are like me, it always takes a little time to adjust to the change in styles....But then the genius of the lyrics and the arrangements eventually hits you like a ton of bricks. By that time the songs are deeply infected into your very core and there is no turning back.
i dont think you know what being a tool is. cause in this situation you seem to be the tool. liking the more popular albums and all... and how can you say "it's not bad at all... it's mostly depressing and...boring" what? i get tired of people ripping on artist that they like because they play differently. i mean what ever happened to concept albums. the point is each album has its own character that youre in the mood for when you listen. you obviously prefer the "alternative" sound
i'm not shallow enough to just prefer a sound, i love the structures and cutting edge sound of radiohead songs, but even as a concept album it seems so misdirected. dont get me wrong, i adore most of the songs on the album such as like spinning plates, i might be wrong, crushed like sardines and pyramid song, and maybe knifes out and this song, but other songs seemed to crush the momentum of the album, and be either too drawn out, or sonically disengaging. the morning bell re-mix says it all.
How about this: with Pablo Honey, they showed none of the maturity of their later albums, including Amnesiac. It wasn't incredibly special or unique, or cohesive like the rest of the albums were. No, Amnesiac wasn't cohesive, but it had an idea behind it, and part of that was an intentional discohesion.
I think maybe people who first experienced Radiohead through Amnesiac maybe love it more, but those who have been around since the beginning maybe don't see it as one of their best...
well, those are the people who now listen to muse or coldplay because they have a more "alternative" sound. ok computer should have made it clear that radiohead wasn't just that kind of band. as i gather it if it were up to early radiohead fans, radiohead wouldn't play their more experimental stuff, but people who started by ok comp or amnesiac dont seem to dicriminate that badly against the bends material. point being that being an early radiohead fan sets u up for hating anything "unradiohead"
thats a bad thing if it's true, but i'm not one of those people, one of the things i love most about radiohead is how they've managed to have all their albums sound different from each other, for me radiohead's music represents incredible effort mixed with talent, and an unwillingness to be complacent - however i just feel that most of amnesiac doesnt fit into that mould, which makes sense as the album is made up mostly of kid a's cast offs. i think its them at their worst - but its still good
getup2k, how the fuck can you like Pablo Honey more than Amnesiac? You act like your smart and reasonable, but that's all bullcrap if you honestly think Pablo Honey > Amnesiac. And if you DON'T think Pablo Honey > Amnesiac, then cool, but then WHY THE FUCK did you say earlier that Amnesiac was their worst album? You miserable, fuckin' cunt, I despise your very existence.
pablo honey is radiohead at their rawest - it's them having fun with their unevolved talent and shows off ideas that later help form their best songs - any radiohead fan has to find the album fascinating from that standpoint. The songs aren't awe inspiring but they are memorable, quirky and above all fun; the only album to show radioheads music before the pressures of the music industry spurred them on to push the boundaries of rock music. It's a much more enjoyable album for me.
I like to cut the crap and simply look at the songs, compare them to each other and such. By doing that, even you would surely see that Amnesiac is superior.
what would you define as superior? pablo honey demonstrates thom's brilliant range of vocals, johnny's improvisation and the group's knack for dynamically playing melodys off each other, all of which is lost in the processed structures of amnesiac. The trade-off for incredible experimentation is easily appreciated on amnesiac, but it's not without a sense of dilution following the similar, and superior Kid-A, and ultimately mis-direction considering the successive quality of each previous album.
I define superior as something/someone (in this case Amnesiac) being better than something/someone (Pablo Honey) else.
You use Kid A as an argument. Kid A is irrelevant for Amnesiac's quality. When you are comparing the quality of two albums, you do JUST THAT. Listen to Pablo Honey, then listen to Amnesiac (preferably a lot. Amnesiac grows on you), and then make a statement about which one is the best album.
That's not a definition, in that context they mean the same thing - I meant why do you think it is superior? why do you think the songs are better? i'm trying to find people on here that might convince me otherwise but i haven't heard anything. And Kid-A is completely relevant for Amnesiac's quality - the songs were recorded at the same time and Kid-A's songs were chosen first, Amnesiac is comprised of songs that didnt make it to Kid-A,which accounts for the comparitively odd pacing of the album
Who gives a shit if Amnesiac is Kid B? A selection of songs that didn't get into Kid A is still songs that are superior to most of the songs on Pablo Honey. Sure, you have songs like You, Creep, Thinking About You, Ripcord, Stop Whispering, but Amnesiac got Knives Out, Pyramid Song, I Might Be Wrong, Life In A Glasshouse, PLSIACTB, You And Whose Army..god damnit, almost every single song on Amnesiac is better than those on Pablo Honey (Pulk Revolving Doors and Hunting Bears is the exceptions).
I adore pretty much all the amnesiac songs you mentioned, even pull/pulk is an interesting piece- but i think the album falls flat on it's face from morning bell to hunting bears. We go from inferior song remix to the boring, lazy ramblings of Dollars, and then to inappropriate album filler - they contain neither a sense of significance or energy that make Radiohead songs so good, but rather, for the only time in a Radiohead album, a prolonged sense of apathy that shows the rest of the album up.
Ok, so Amnesiac has three bad songs! Are you saying Pablo Honey doesn't? That the peaks of Pablo Honey beats the peaks of Amnesiac, while the bottom of Pablo Honey beats the bottom of Amnesiac? And all that comes between, compared to each other, makes Pablo Honey a better album?
Tell me, WHAT is it that makes Pablo Honey better than Amnesiac?
In addition to all the things I've mentioned, a level of consistant form that is absent for a lot of Amnesiac. Amnesiac is a lazy album, while Pablo is bursting with energy and promise.
Now you're just contradicting yourself. You say that Amnesiac lacks a consistant form, then claim it to be a lazy album. So in your opinion; Amnesiac is a consistantly lazy album.
Btw, are your honest opinion that Pablo Honey is a consistent album alà Kid A? With a clear path throughout the whole album? That is bullshit, because Pablo Honey is, like Amnesiac, a bunch of songs thrown into an album.
No...., if i say it lacks consistant form and is lazy then my opinion is that its lazy and inconsistant - this laziness shows up well precisely because of its inconsistancy. Pablo Honey's songs work brilliantly together regardless of how they were put together.
not extremely, the melodies and guitar parts are fairly complex, and are consistantly filled with a carefree passion that is completely missing in Amnesiac, and is what makes pablo so good to listen to considering its Radiohead. I am only saying Amnesiac is their worst album, it's still very good, and still a favourite of mine, but most defintly their worst.
how can you say pablo is better than amnesiac?? are you serious?? lets see.. Pyramid song, knives out, i might be wrong, you and who's army, life in a glasshouse, spinning plates vs creep, you, anyone can play guitar, and thinking about you ... no contest friend.. Amnesiac is (and i know Radiohead would agree with me) a million times better than pablo honey and Amnesiac is probly my third fave radiohead album beaten only by kid a and hail to the thief
Amnesiac could be their most heartfelt album, so to say it sounds lazy or less energetic is just pointing out what they were going for. Dollars and Cents is repetitive, but thats what makes it so gloomy and dark, that's what makes the song. In the same regard, you could say 'House of Cards' is boring and lazy. And Hunting Bears was actually their first song to blow me away. You feel their thoughts through the notes rather than lyrics. However, I do agree the Amnesiac 'MB' worse than the Kid A.
Thats the most stupid thing i've ever heard, amnesiac wasnt just some songs that didnt get on kid a, all songs were made at the same time, and instead of making a double album they did two different, just having couple of months in between release
That's up for debate, but considering there wasnt much information on Amnesiac and its tracks at the release of Kid A only 10 months earlier, you'd have to assume they picked the best for Kid A and decided to go ahead with plans to release another when they decided the other songs were good enough. 'Good' isn't the radiohead I know....
well i dont think they just took the good ones on kid a, i mean they were thinking about making a double album but they ended up making two, i cant image radiohead just pick the good ones and then take the left overs for another album :P they are two complete different albums
Try to hear this song in the middle on the night with no lights at all, you will feel all the energy that this song unleashes... works for me and no need to be high to do it LOL
this is why Amnesiac is my favorite Radiohead album

You've just got to watch some of the videos of them playing morning bell.. those drums sound amazing live!

your thinking about mornign bell on kid a - the original one... amnesiac is the reprise.
MuseandRadiohead 4 years ago
It took a while for me too, mostly because the Kid A version is just amazing, and probably still slightly better in my opinion. Still, it grew on me eventually and then you can see the beauty in it. The frightening elements of the song are probably more obvious on Amnesiac for me.

i'm not saying it's bad at all.... but come on, it's by far their worst. Even Pablo Honey is a fun album. Amnesiac is mostly depressing and more boring than their other albums. dont be tools.
getup2k 4 years ago
Getup...if you are like me, it always takes a little time to adjust to the change in styles....But then the genius of the lyrics and the arrangements eventually hits you like a ton of bricks. By that time the songs are deeply infected into your very core and there is no turning back.

I agree, well put. It's still their worst album though.
getup2k 4 years ago
this statement makes me wonder if you've ever actually listened to amnesiac..
shalalahs 3 years ago
i dont think you know what being a tool is. cause in this situation you seem to be the tool. liking the more popular albums and all... and how can you say "it's not bad at all... it's mostly depressing and...boring" what? i get tired of people ripping on artist that they like because they play differently. i mean what ever happened to concept albums. the point is each album has its own character that youre in the mood for when you listen. you obviously prefer the "alternative" sound
solargesture 3 years ago
i'm not shallow enough to just prefer a sound, i love the structures and cutting edge sound of radiohead songs, but even as a concept album it seems so misdirected. dont get me wrong, i adore most of the songs on the album such as like spinning plates, i might be wrong, crushed like sardines and pyramid song, and maybe knifes out and this song, but other songs seemed to crush the momentum of the album, and be either too drawn out, or sonically disengaging. the morning bell re-mix says it all.
getup2k 3 years ago
Calling people tools is fairly unreasonable...just coz they like different stuff to you...
galvers 3 years ago 5
they are if they can't even explain why they think it's not their worst album.
getup2k 3 years ago
How about this: with Pablo Honey, they showed none of the maturity of their later albums, including Amnesiac. It wasn't incredibly special or unique, or cohesive like the rest of the albums were. No, Amnesiac wasn't cohesive, but it had an idea behind it, and part of that was an intentional discohesion.

I think maybe people who first experienced Radiohead through Amnesiac maybe love it more, but those who have been around since the beginning maybe don't see it as one of their best...
getup2k 3 years ago
well, those are the people who now listen to muse or coldplay because they have a more "alternative" sound. ok computer should have made it clear that radiohead wasn't just that kind of band. as i gather it if it were up to early radiohead fans, radiohead wouldn't play their more experimental stuff, but people who started by ok comp or amnesiac dont seem to dicriminate that badly against the bends material. point being that being an early radiohead fan sets u up for hating anything "unradiohead"
solargesture 3 years ago
thats a bad thing if it's true, but i'm not one of those people, one of the things i love most about radiohead is how they've managed to have all their albums sound different from each other, for me radiohead's music represents incredible effort mixed with talent, and an unwillingness to be complacent - however i just feel that most of amnesiac doesnt fit into that mould, which makes sense as the album is made up mostly of kid a's cast offs. i think its them at their worst - but its still good
getup2k 3 years ago
You really like pablo honey more than amnesiac?
funkymonk25 3 years ago
getup2k, how the fuck can you like Pablo Honey more than Amnesiac? You act like your smart and reasonable, but that's all bullcrap if you honestly think Pablo Honey > Amnesiac. And if you DON'T think Pablo Honey > Amnesiac, then cool, but then WHY THE FUCK did you say earlier that Amnesiac was their worst album? You miserable, fuckin' cunt, I despise your very existence.
BamRyan 3 years ago
pablo honey is radiohead at their rawest - it's them having fun with their unevolved talent and shows off ideas that later help form their best songs - any radiohead fan has to find the album fascinating from that standpoint. The songs aren't awe inspiring but they are memorable, quirky and above all fun; the only album to show radioheads music before the pressures of the music industry spurred them on to push the boundaries of rock music. It's a much more enjoyable album for me.
getup2k 3 years ago
I like to cut the crap and simply look at the songs, compare them to each other and such. By doing that, even you would surely see that Amnesiac is superior.
BamRyan 3 years ago
what would you define as superior? pablo honey demonstrates thom's brilliant range of vocals, johnny's improvisation and the group's knack for dynamically playing melodys off each other, all of which is lost in the processed structures of amnesiac. The trade-off for incredible experimentation is easily appreciated on amnesiac, but it's not without a sense of dilution following the similar, and superior Kid-A, and ultimately mis-direction considering the successive quality of each previous album.
getup2k 3 years ago
What a prick lol
DaftVador 3 years ago
I define superior as something/someone (in this case Amnesiac) being better than something/someone (Pablo Honey) else.
You use Kid A as an argument. Kid A is irrelevant for Amnesiac's quality. When you are comparing the quality of two albums, you do JUST THAT. Listen to Pablo Honey, then listen to Amnesiac (preferably a lot. Amnesiac grows on you), and then make a statement about which one is the best album.
BamRyan 3 years ago
That's not a definition, in that context they mean the same thing - I meant why do you think it is superior? why do you think the songs are better? i'm trying to find people on here that might convince me otherwise but i haven't heard anything. And Kid-A is completely relevant for Amnesiac's quality - the songs were recorded at the same time and Kid-A's songs were chosen first, Amnesiac is comprised of songs that didnt make it to Kid-A,which accounts for the comparitively odd pacing of the album
getup2k 3 years ago
BamRyan 3 years ago
I adore pretty much all the amnesiac songs you mentioned, even pull/pulk is an interesting piece- but i think the album falls flat on it's face from morning bell to hunting bears. We go from inferior song remix to the boring, lazy ramblings of Dollars, and then to inappropriate album filler - they contain neither a sense of significance or energy that make Radiohead songs so good, but rather, for the only time in a Radiohead album, a prolonged sense of apathy that shows the rest of the album up.
getup2k 3 years ago
Ok, so Amnesiac has three bad songs! Are you saying Pablo Honey doesn't? That the peaks of Pablo Honey beats the peaks of Amnesiac, while the bottom of Pablo Honey beats the bottom of Amnesiac? And all that comes between, compared to each other, makes Pablo Honey a better album?
Tell me, WHAT is it that makes Pablo Honey better than Amnesiac?
BamRyan 3 years ago
In addition to all the things I've mentioned, a level of consistant form that is absent for a lot of Amnesiac. Amnesiac is a lazy album, while Pablo is bursting with energy and promise.
getup2k 3 years ago
Now you're just contradicting yourself. You say that Amnesiac lacks a consistant form, then claim it to be a lazy album. So in your opinion; Amnesiac is a consistantly lazy album.
Btw, are your honest opinion that Pablo Honey is a consistent album alà Kid A? With a clear path throughout the whole album? That is bullshit, because Pablo Honey is, like Amnesiac, a bunch of songs thrown into an album.
BamRyan 3 years ago
No...., if i say it lacks consistant form and is lazy then my opinion is that its lazy and inconsistant - this laziness shows up well precisely because of its inconsistancy. Pablo Honey's songs work brilliantly together regardless of how they were put together.
getup2k 3 years ago
"Pablo Honey's songs work brilliantly together regardless of how they were put together. "
That's because the album is extremely straightforward.
BamRyan 3 years ago
not extremely, the melodies and guitar parts are fairly complex, and are consistantly filled with a carefree passion that is completely missing in Amnesiac, and is what makes pablo so good to listen to considering its Radiohead. I am only saying Amnesiac is their worst album, it's still very good, and still a favourite of mine, but most defintly their worst.
getup2k 3 years ago
how can you say pablo is better than amnesiac?? are you serious??

Every Radiohead song from Ok Computer is better than Pablo Honey and The Bends combined. Opinion of course.

ThisIsntLeonard 3 years ago
are you joking? Dollars and Cents is devine :O
Phimpan 3 years ago 2
Thats the most stupid thing i've ever heard, amnesiac wasnt just some songs that didnt get on kid a, all songs were made at the same time, and instead of making a double album they did two different, just having couple of months in between release
apaboy50 2 years ago
That's up for debate, but considering there wasnt much information on Amnesiac and its tracks at the release of Kid A only 10 months earlier, you'd have to assume they picked the best for Kid A and decided to go ahead with plans to release another when they decided the other songs were good enough. 'Good' isn't the radiohead I know....
getup2k 2 years ago
well i dont think they just took the good ones on kid a, i mean they were thinking about making a double album but they ended up making two, i cant image radiohead just pick the good ones and then take the left overs for another album :P they are two complete different albums
apaboy50 2 years ago
The albums were recorded at the same time, but some songs just didn't sound right for Kid A. Those songs are Amnesiac.
