I live in NJ. Recently had a huge walnut tree fall in my backyard. If my math is correct there should be around 1500 bf in logs left after i cleaned it up. How do i go about selling something like that? What do you think its worth before its milled? Seem like a guy that can help with something like that. Definitly would be appreciated
@soicansee1111 I would look on craigslist to see what others are selling. Seems around here the prices vary a lot ranging from 4.50 to 2.00 a bf for rough sawn.
@soicansee1111 From experience, here are the challenges you'll have. 1. A sawmil will be hesitant to cut a log from a backyard because of nails or other metal objects possibly being embedded. 2. If you can somehow get the log to a sawmill the sawdust made by walnut is toxic to horses and many sawmils sell their sawdust for horse bedding. 3. One tree is usually not evenough for a pro to pick up even in walnut. Good luck.
@mrwonderdog1 If the tree just fell down I don't think they should be too concerned and even if they do any professional will have a metal detector. I have a good friend that has a trailer with a industrial saw mill on it and that's what he specializes in. He'll drive out to location and cut up your wood any way you want.
