Actually I did my homework. K3 has vastly superior blocking dynamic range, a second receiver that equals the first receiver's performance, true phase locked diversity reception so you can use two different antennas on RX at the same time, faster QSK, the P3 monitor is faster and higher resolution, and it is hands down the most used radio for Dxpeditions. The 7800 is bigger and more pretty, but under the hood, there is nothing it does better. NOTHING. Overpriced as well.
i have watched three different demos of this radio and the SSb sounds lousy, i have my cheap tt paragon and kenwood 570 dg and they both sound better than that. I like icom but something is wrong here.
Fully loaded Elecraft K3 at $4200.00. COmpletely superior performance, and enough money left over to make a serious antenna farm. This radio is overpriced.
@kb1g : You are comparing apple and orange. You dont know what you are talking about. The K3 is an great radio but nowhere close to the ic-7800. You have to redo your homework.
@noisyDX Look at the thread for a reply. Dude, I am glad you like your rig, but on every performance parameter that matters, the 7800 isn't in the hunt. Nothing Icom makes can compare based on the fundamental design. Sherwood engineering had the K3 at number 1 or two on the receiver performance table. The 7800 is number 16. Sherwood is the absolute best testing lab for receiver performance. Enjoy the rig, but don't beat your chest too much. You are not in the same camp.
what is the width of this radio? according to the specifications it's only 16 1/2 inches wide, is that correct? It looks bigger than that. I'm hoping to get one and I'm making some shelving units, obviously want to make that the right size

Does it have a RFI problem? I see you put a toroid core on the mic input or speaker output. Thanks.
