  • Wow. Sometimes I hear of covers that I think won't work (Chris Cornell covering Michael Jackson, for instance), and then I listen to them and...wow. This is one.

  • Fucking awful, really fucking awful!!!!

  • @entraildivider shut up you asshole

  • Fucking awful!

  • @tgodd - Ha! You are quite right, as it's almost not worth pointing out the idiot posting ;-) This is a tremendous version by an incredible musician, and we know it. I feel sorry for dirk, not having any taste! But I am teasing, really, to each his own...no need to hate. So dirkydoo-same goes to you!

  • cada vez que la escucho de nuevo, más me gusta

  • @lordbyronofbristol I think its like that not only in the UK, they are huge all over Europe, but they should have been way much bigger in the US.

  • Under rated? Not in England. They are considered Gods and one of the most important guitar bands of all time!

  • Sounds like a whiny yank. No thanks.

  • @dirkbogarde44 IDIOT

  • brilliant

  • j . masis in the acid trip

  • marr and mascis are both truly great guitarists

  • I like this, but, I'm with TheNadster. Marr was the reason The Smiths stood out to me in the 80s.

  • I like this, but I'm with TheNadster. Marr was the reason The Smiths stood out to me in the 80s.

  • lol i see my floor mat from target @ 0:40..im honored to have the same rug as mascis :)

  • I can see he puts much more energy into this then say...the where you been album, in that record his voice sounds like a wah pedal...but its alll good:)

  • I love BOTH versions. Due must be paid to Johnny Marr, but you can tell that J LOVES this song. And isn't that really what doing a cover is about?

  • haha i love J Mascis and although this is a very endearing cover, its pretty clear J cant really channel Morrissey. Then again Morrissey is perfection and who can

  • How can you even dare compare morrissey to this? This cover is a disgrace.

  • @ilikezmonster the best covers arent supposed to sound exactly the same, my friend. if you knew anything about dinosaur jr. , youd understand that this is a great cover.

  • @URiiNE I respect your opinion and i never said covers should sound the same i just simply dont think this cover makes the smiths any justice.

  • @ilikezmonster and i respect yours. thanks for not taking this to a childish level and using insults, its much appreciated!

  • leave it to youtubers to create a Morrissey vs. dinosaur Jr. comment battle...how lame. sad.

  • yeah I love J more than Morrissey and this is tired,,, the smiths version for me

  • Morrissey is god himself, and J is one of the prophets that know the true genius of Morrissey. Great cover.

  • Why does everyone hate Morrisey?

  • @BananaCo12321 I don't know...but its true.... But I love him!

  • What a mess... I am a big fan of J. Mascis and Dinosaur, but J's voice is just not suited for this song. The chorus is particularly cringe-worthy, especially the way he pronounces "now", it's just awful. The Smiths version is 100x better.

  • I'm convinced that J. Mascis has yet to show the world more then 50% of his maximum power. Any thing more would cause the next Chernobyl.

  • Mooktopia, DUDE, What have you been drinking bro!!!! This better than Morrisseys??LOL!!! LOL!!!!LOL!!!!LOL!!!!

  • this is so beautiful

  • chill out and have some fish n chips mate

  • Dude easy....

  • why are the comments so good for this cover? First of all, he changes the lyrics to COMPLETELY change the meaning of the song (saying "she don't believe us" instead of "they don't believe us"), sings out of tune a ridiculous amount of times, has an unbelievably bizarre voice and WHAT was that ending. Horrible.

  • @Timmybear this makes no sense at all. When does morrissey sing out of tune in rank? Specifics please.

  • Comment removed

  • @Timmybear well, clearly you don't understand the meaning of 'specifics please'. And also can't differenciate between wandering off key for artistic charm, and completely failing at trying to hit notes.

  • Comment removed

  • @Timmybear Again, you STILL don't understand the term 'specifics please'. Name points in songs where morrissey sings off key. Plus, all you did with your last statement was re-affirm that you can't understand the difference between wandering around notes for artistic flare, and completely fucking missing notes you are trying to hit, and sounding like a complaining dog.

  • Comment removed

  • @Timmybear Lol I'll use whatever language I want, thanks.

  • @Timmybear yeah, the falsetto is completely on key, ask anyone of any musical merit whatsoever, it's completely on key.

  • @Timmybear you also have no ear whatsoever. The 'paintful falsetto' you refer to in miserable lie is completely on key. There is not one off key note in it. And the occasional note where morrissey (for humor) flails around on notes, are you seriously comparing morrissey doing that, to this pile of shit? You have no fucking clue as to what you are talking about mate.

  • you suck..

  • @extremepietbh i'd like to see how'd morrissey look trying to play a guitar, which is j mascis' specialty.

  • @mikescott77 Morrissey never claimed he could play guitar.

  • @extremepietbh a huge part of morrissey's success is due to Johnny Marr.

  • @extremepietbh morrisey was the worst part of the smiths

  • @ktsnowrider since you clearly think random people's opinions on the internet need to be known, here's mine and everyone else's who has ever heard the band - you are completely wrong.

  • @ktsnowrider his lyrics and voice is just as important as marr cmon dont be a moron

  • @txteabagger

    QUOTE!!!!!

  • j can't sing but morrissey's an effeminate whinger. nobody's perfect.

  • @ulcerprone amen.

  • I didn't know he had so many jszzmasters. Thats what I call a passion.

  • this is one of the greatest smiths covers ever. j mascis is a god.

  • Show me the way, quicksand, just like heaven and this, he has good taste. Have you heard them doing the Neil young one also.

  • thanks for the kiss!!

  • damn I didn't even know about this cover I got so into it.. mascis really takes you for a ride.. I love all his covers.

and I was just listening to his bowie cover "quiksand"

this is a total treat thanks forposting it!!!

  • I like this so much more than the original.

Anyone know where the pic at 1.26 is from?

  • one of the more committed Mascis vocas i've heard .... his guitar style and johnny marr's couldn't be more different... not too much shimmery grace in this rendition. Sounds like he's playing it on a washboard! That said I appreciate that J is a guitar god, I really do.

  • Underrated I hope only for a short time.

J Mascis was so influential in so many ours development away from being slaves of corporate rock.

I hope more people learn about Dr Jr

    awesome band

  • Hugely underrated but 'so influential'? Do you understand the meaning of the words you are using?

  • fuckin awesome!

  • wow didnt know j was a smiths fan...my two faorite musical entitis combined...i dig

  • i love j's version more than morrisseys original...and im a diehard morrissey fan...and your right j has to be one of the most underrated guitarists of alllll time.

  • @Mooktopia The Smith's original, sorry but I think Marr must be ackowledged....anyone here like the Smiths like 90% for Marr, it seems Morrissey gets all the love whereas Marr was the one writing the sophisticated and unique guitar lines

  • @TheNadster2 - It was a partnership, every true Smiths fan understands this.
