The commentary was added after the taping and they knew the 9 was coming. Yes they probably knew he needed an A or 9, but they just said "Chan needs a 9 here to win" because that was the card he was going to hit.

Gabe Kaplan is the best poker-commentator ever. for me its not because of his comedy aspects, he is the best because the way how he commentates situations nearly perfectly. (for example hsp)

he is in the poker szene (as player and commetator) for over 30 years now, thats one of the aspects why he understands so much about this game.

Dude you guys need to lay off the commentators. This was 1988 before any kind of poker boom, a normal person would wonder what game the guys were playing. Blackjack? Because poker is played with 5 cards. Not many people knew much about this game, so give the commentators a break, they're probably better than Norman Chad anyways. Of course doesn't say much since Chad is like the worst commentator ever.

Johnny Chan is such a bad ass , he makes the announcer make a bad call . Who's to say who is the BEST Poker player in World , Doyle , Hell-Mouth or the Chan Man, but I'd put my money on Johnny Chan heads up w/ anybody .
