  • I'm on Induction this is day 9 only one little problem! I take lots fiber, eat the recommended veggies, but nothing moves! I'm over full all the time, so I eat very little.

  • @Hotrodluvmut1 What kind of fiber are you getting? Psyllium husks or flax meal or in your vegetables?

  • So really, what about the weakness and tiredness? I had this nasty headache and I'm not sure if it has to do with the diet... Either way, when does it get better?

  • @gabriellaisrael Yes, it is likely diet related. Check out my Induction flu video on ideas on how to help the headache and fatigue go away. It is temporary, but taking 1-2 cups of chicken broth (for sodium) and using salt substitute (like Morton LiteSalt) for Potassium will help immensely.

  • im on day 4

  • @13mudpuppy Congrats on making the decision to be healthy!

  • great vids! Was on Atkins about 8 years ago with great success...didn't keep up or watch what I was eating..guess I thought once the weight was gone I was done...won't make that mistake again! So today I started again, please continue to post your helpful advice, it really keeps my motivation up, which I will def need over the next 2 weeks especially!

  • @DallasiteDad I am glad I could help. I should have a bunch more coming between now and the end of the year, so stay tuned. I also wanted to wish you the best. 7 years later, I am still amazed by the energy I have every day.

  • been on it 4 days 11lbs off is that about right? only thing is i seem to be eating the same things, is there anywhere to get recipe's for the induction phase. thanks for setting this channel up bowulf.

  • @coylo50 The amount lost on induction is different for everyone. It is largely dependent on the amount to lose, and if you've done Induction before. It won't always be that fast, but that is a really good start. For Induction Friendly recipes, do a search on here for "Atkins Diet Recipes (IF)." I tag or title all my recipes that I have posted here with (IF) in the title that are Induction Friendly.

  • I have been off and on Atkins for the past 40 yrs. I usually get IF when I begin the crash course . I am on day 21 and paying careful attention to carbs and trying to stay under 15 carbs a day. Is anyone reading here who has been on induction for long periods of time ?

What are your experiences ? Any you guys on farsebook ?

    Proud of you ,Kent.......

  • @heygeno1951 Check out my latest videos, and you'll see a link to my facebook site. It's a good way to communicate with other viewers.

I did Induction for roughly 12 months. You can certainly do it a long time without any negative side effects.

  • This video is a great reminder with good information. I have these attachments hanging on the refrigerator with the AMOUNTS you can eat yellow highlighted. I encourage everyone doing Atkins to do the same while on inductions.

  • @fidgetforfitness That is a good idea about the fridge as there are many things like number of fluid oz of cream or lemon juice, number of olives, or the allowable amount of sour cream that I would find difficult to remember always.

  • hey again :) so i'm now in week 6 of my aitkens journey and have lost 27 pounds so far, is this a good start ?? I was wondering how fast the weight came off for u ?? also i havent started any real exercise yet, just following the induction phase........as always thanks for ur videos they help more than anything i have found online, luv from Scotland xxxxxxxx

  • @RONIGAV I lost at about 4 pounds a week, but that is just what mine was. It isn't necessarily better or worse than what others have done. I think your progress is great, and you are well on the way on to goal. Keep following the plan like you have been, and keep checking to see if you should be progressing to the next phase OWL or not. Thanks for watching!

  • i gotta work out and i gotta donate so dont say stop, and dont say you should be getting enough with whole food - meat cuz im not.........

  • @lonnieke Like I said you can do as you wish, but as I said in the other video, whey protein is not on the acceptable foods list for Induction. That's why no one potentially talks about it.

As for not getting enough with real food, 2 chicken breasts can be over 100g of protein. I guess I never had a problem getting well over 150g of protein. Too much protein gets converted to glucose, which can then derail your progress by causing the insulin reaction you are attempting to avoid.

  • @bowulf good info i never knew that. i don't think the original book mentions that either but good to know

  • no one ever talks about protein shakes and induction I'm in induction, Im working out, and I'm donating plasma and losing protein and need to do shakes...can i just count the carbs? 6 grams carbs per 60 grams of protein, its a whey protein isolate

  • @MrArpas123 I am happy you are making a low carb recipe site, but don't spam others videos. It's rude.

  • Are u married Ken?

  • @mzrey Yep, for 21 years in June. It's hard to believe -- the time has flown by.

  • ok bro .. thnx a lot .. a reminder for ur visitors, i did atkins 2 years ago and went from 215 pounds to 180 , looked perfect .. and thats when i started eating more carbs till i stopped atkins finally .. now i am 235 .. GUYS: ATKINS IS A LIFE TIME DIET.. do not fall a victim for ur own ego when u reach to ur goal..

  • bowulf.. u can forget the question abt tomatos LOOOOL

jst please.. tell us wt do u think abt this website, may be it ll help us all ..

  • hey bowulf, thnx a lot for helping all of us during all this time.. i want to ask you about red tomatos , is that ok ?

i found this web site about nutritions facts caloriecount.about.com all u have to do is to put the item u want to know about in the search and it will list the nutrition facts .. can we trust it ? it seems so professional .. thnx a lot bro

  • @Rida5d Tomatoes are fine. They are limited though to roughly 1 cup per day. I do use a website similar to that for information as well. Occasionally there will be some differences with what Atkins carb counters say and those books, but for the most part, I would rely upon it. I personally use fitday.com to track my info.

  • thanx a lot

  • bowulf if you lived in the san antonio area and you were here on youtube saying that you work at the fire dept. here in sa ...I would call you to my house just to PISS you off! Your to nice and innocent so yeah I would call you over just to stress you out! >=D

  • @xPurpleHazeReaprx Don't worry the cops usually deal with those people long before we ever get tripped... :-)

  • @bowulf nah I know most of the cops so yeah.. that wouldn't help you >=D I just annoy by saying "yeah I watched that creepy movie named Beowolf, and it scared the be jesus out of me! AHH my heart!"

  • your knowledge of the atkins diet is amazing dude! well done :)

  • @sambrady92 Thanks for the kind words...

  • Superb content....you make videos that give huge value:)

  • I never understood the cheese restriction. when I look up the nutritional profile for cheese, many cheeses, like Monterey Jack, Muenster, or Manchego have zero carbs, and the cheeses that do have carbs, like Cheddar, Goat or Parmesan, have it in such miniscule quantities (as little as 0.4 grams of carbs per oz). So why the severe restriction? Why would it lead to weight gain? Why only 4 oz per day?

  • bags are from a slimy colon from eating animal fat ie SLIME

  • @TheJUNGLESURFER Yep, that's it not the 22 hour day fighting a fire and lack of sleep. Or perhaps it is dealing with biased, web trolls. Good luck!

  • @TheJUNGLESURFER what a douche! i hope your house catches fire and he shows up. dont like? dont watch!

  • Wow, you are a real inspiration! Amazing to see how well you've done and how far you've come. Huge congratulations! I hope to learn more from you about the Atkins Diet. + 1 new subscriber :)

  • @elliebit Thank you for your kind words. If you have any questions, be sure to feel free to ask away...

  • @bowulf Thank you :) I'm sure I'll have lots of questions coming your way very soon :D

  • Its says unlimited amounts of meat of some atkins documents I have read..is that true? I still feel really hungry how long before that ends on induction and should I be exercising..did you exercise? I only been on for 5 days I have not weighed myself I want to wait after induction..but anyway my real question is what time should you stop eating.is it after 6pm or can I have a late night no carb snack..and is canned sardines ok..lol..sorry real random

  • @TheMimimocha510 The books actually say eat liberally or until satiated. Not quite unlimited, but the limit is your own body telling you no more.

If you are hungry no matter the time on Induction, eat -- eat something legal. If that is 10 pm at night or 7 am in the morning, if your body is honestly hungry, eat something - a ounce of cheese, chicken breast, etc.

On Induction for the first 4 weeks I did not exercise=eating right is more important. Since then I exercise 5-7 days a week,

  • can i eat organic low carb bread. its 1 gram per slice, i still eat my 12-15 grams from veggies too but is it ok to eat the bread?

  • @danie142009 If you read the ingredients on the product and it contains only Induction legal ingredients, then it should be fine to eat. If it has any flour or starches on the ingredients label like this video and the label reading video says, then it is off-limits until you hit that rung. Remember Induction is more than just eating 20g or less per day.

  • if u just eat the Induction foods through the whole diet will you lose more wight?

  • @tha1onlyjake Not necessarily... You may add foods after Induction that may stall or pause your weight loss, but there are also people who keep their carb levels at Induction levels and only Induction foods and still stall. The latter group actually lose more weight once starting Ongoing Weight Loss phase and progressing through the rungs.

  • hi im looking for some vegetarian help.

Im a vegetarian and have been for most of my life. I recently started atkins and after the first day I noticed that the Quorn product I had eaten in total the pack had 1g of sugar in it. I was wondering:

    A. Is there a minimum amount of sugar you can have, because all quorn products have sugar I think.

    B. Has this ruined the begining of my diet, and if so, would it be because 1g of sugar is too high? Thanks

  • @Teddykinso Quorn is going to be a gray area due to it being more analogous to processed meats. Processed meats with carbs are generally discouraged, but I can see where a vegetarian might have to make compromises and this might be one.

    A. Don't focus on sugar listed in the nutrition facts but rather ingredients and total carbs. You can count net carbs (subtracting fiber) rather total carbs.

    B. Like I said normally I would say no to any added (non-natural) sugars during Induction.

  • can i just say thank u!!!! being able to watch someone make the meals, and add/subtract from it is so helpful!!! i'm very excited for this new journey, and keep on with the cooking videos....THANK YOU!

  • @beadedthong I am glad I can help. I know sometimes it is easier seeing it done than trying to understand someone's writing.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheJbomber The asterick (*) for seafood says they can be higher in carb than other meats. The double astericks were for a caution regarding processed meats and any of them being cured with sugar.

  • Comment removed

  • Hello,

I am a little confused because on your link of acceptable foods it says that I can only have three cups of salad or two cups of salad and an extra cup of another vegetable a day. But on the atkins website it says i can have six loosely packed cups of salad and two cups of another vegetable. Which one is right?

    thanks!

  • @tay60 I dealt with this in another video - "Atkins Diet Controversy - How many Veggies on Induction?"- on Youtube, and it has probably better explanation of my feelings on the topic.

The short answer is the Atkins Diet changed with the latest 2010 book, and I follow the 2002 version (last one Dr. Atkins personally wrote). If you watch the above video, you'll see why I still think the 2002 version in this regard is better.

Ultimately, "right" is which ever one you pick and helps you succeed.

  • @bowulf I'm glad you said that. I also prefer to follow the plan as instructed by Dr. Atkins himself. I was surprised to find how different it is now.

  • @mothertory Yeah, I have couch what I say by which diet viewers are following, but I try to be upfront with I think of 2002 version as gospel and differences between then and now may change your performance.

  • Hi kent i am wondering what will happen

If i continue eating just 20 g of carbs daily until i lose all my desired weight (50 pounds)? Will i just stop losing weight?

  • @Fineztmorenita You may lose weight until you hit goal or you may plateau early. If you watch my why am I not losing video, you see one thing I might suggest to those not losing is increasing their carb count. It certainly isn't the most advisable way to lose weight unless you never plan to eat more than 20g for the rest of your life.

  • Hi Kent first off I got to thank you for answering all my question and patiently dedicating so much of your time to helping others achieve their goals. I am curious to know if unsweetened coconut is allowed in the induction stage

  • @abcmomable No, coconut is left for the Nut/Seed rung of OWL.

  • thank u 4this video

  • soooo... u only count the net carbs from the vegetables, not the meat, eggs or chees

    ?

  • @mylittleredpanda No, you count net carbs on everything that enters your mouth.

Quoted straight from the rules of Induction:

"Eat no more than 20 grams a day of carbohydrate, most of which must come in the form of salad greens and other vegetables. You can eat approximately three cups-loosely packed-of salad, or two cups of salad plus one cup of other vegetables (see the list of acceptable vegetables)."

There may be little fiber however in foods other than vegetables and flax.

  • Also it says you can have all eggs but on the label of the egg cart it says each egg has one carb whats the deal? and it also says to limit the cheese intake but talamook cheese has zero carbs (at least that is what it says on the wrapper. )

  • @jailstop Eggs have approximately .6g per egg. You can have up to 12-15 eggs per day and still get the majority of your carbs from veggies. Why is it a eat liberally food if there's a limit? I am guessing he believed no one would ever eat over 35 eggs per day on Induction.

The wrapper can say 0g in US, but have up to .9g of carbs. It is safest to count each oz as 1g. The other video applies to this question as well -- why cheese is limited.

  • chicken wings are my guardian angel for induction. ive been on induction for 3 weeks and have lost 25 pounds. i make my own hot wing sauce with no carbs.

  • Thanks for the time you put into your videos. Gabreael

  • @EParanormal You are welcome. I am just grateful people still watch them and find them useful.

  • Kent, for these people you just need to write them out a 14 day plan of exactly what they should eat, and tell them to follow it to the T. :)

  • @redneck500 I hear you Josh, and that is one of my things to do. One of my reasons I haven't done it yet is my fear that it would be taken as prescriptive and that would be ONLY things they would eat for the next 6 months... :-)

Heck the only thing my sample menus are is a reflection of my tastes with the rules, so things like fish likely won't be on my menus. Not due to its unacceptability, I just am not a fish eater.

  • @bowulf Ya man , I guess that would be nuts if someone sat down to their dinner table for the next 6 months and ate the same thing LOL They would turn into a zombie LOL :)

  • @bowulf it says not to have seeds in the first two weeks but davids sunflower seeds has 5 carbs and 4 grams of fiber per serving. Since you can have up to 20 grams of carbs a day cant you have a few serving of davids sunflower seeds if no why not?

  • @jailstop Because Induction is more than just eat less than 20g of carbs per day. Check out my video on the same topic for the longer explanation, but the short explanation is Induction sets the stage for adding foods back into your diet later. It eliminates a number of foods people can have food sensitivities. Seeds are one of them, so no nuts and seeds during Induction.

  • @bowulf See I thought it was just a mathematical thing like all you have to do is stay under 20 and your fine. So are you saying that you wont enter kitosis if you have any sun flower seeds in the first 2 weeks? Also how many carbs are you limiting yourself to at this point in your life?

  • @jailstop You may enter ketosis below 20g, but you won't be doing "Atkins" without following the rules. There are plenty of low carb plans with lots of different rules, and one might be successful on any number of them. I have however found following the rules to be a better guarantor of success.

Currently I eat between 30g and 55g routinely. Some days it may be more than that and or less than that.

  • @bowulf first off I got to thank you for answering all my question and dedicating so much of your time to helping others achieve their goals. I am very happy to have found your channel! That being said for the past 3 weeks I have been doing what I thought was atkins but it turns out it wasn't atkins *lol but the thing is I have lost a ton of weight and I feel like im 15 again! However I drink all the coffee & diet soda I want plus I eat sunflower seeds like a bird (cont)

  • @jailstop I think people can be successful no matter male or female, but men typically do perhaps better on low carb initially. Just remember Induction only needs to last 14 days, and then you can progress to the OWL -- where adding the seeds back into your diet is like the 3rd rung of it.

As for jealousy around you, the only thing I can say is get used to it, and use it to fuel future losses. :-)

  • @bowulf (cont) now I do drink lots of water (allot for me I hardly ever used to drink straight water ) and I work out at least every 3 days on a treadmill until I think I am going to die, then I stop *lol Do you think my success is due to the fact that I am a male? Most females in my life are very jealous of me right now because they want my results *lol

  • Kent, for these people you just need to write them out a 14 day plan of exactly what they should eat, and tell them to follow it to the T. :)

  • delete one of my comments. My computer froze. Sorry

  • @SkeeterN I think it's common for wanting to fumble your way through it or take the easy road, but when you really become desparate like I was to lose weight. You want to do it right, and set yourself up for success.

Perhaps that's it. I knew where my rock bottom was, and I was clutching for a lifeline. If you aren't in that spot yet (or proverbially can still touch bottom of the pool), you're less motivated.

Reading 400-500 pg book can be intimidating too, but living life 400 pounds is too.

  • Thanks Kent for making this video. Do you ever wonder why people do not read the Atkins books? Do you ever hear as I do how many people think Atkins is just meat and cheese only? I sure do. I ask them did you read the book? This sometime also offends people but the truth is if you want to learn about a new product you just bought you read the manual. For those who do not want to read the book at least they have someone like you. Thanks again. Your a treasure to the low carb community.

  • @SkeeterN I agree. When I first started the diet, I was just like these people. I thought I knew what the diet was, and quickly made mistakes. One day later after being corrected by others or by reading, I understood what it was and read the book. So I can definitely understand the mindset , but I hope with enough prompting people will actually read.

If you are motivated enough to give up bread and potatoes, I hope you are motivated to spend a few hours and read a book.

  • Kent This may be your definitive Induction success / Atkins understanding video. The message of take responsibility and understand what you are really eating cannot be stressed or repeated enough. Low carb is not a craze. Controlled-carb is the natural, health-allowing dietary intake for us all. Thank you.

  • @BigJohnIsOn You are very welcome. I hope the video is as clear and influential as you say it is.

  • Thank you, you have been such a good sport about explaining this over and over. So many people are confused about the ingredients part, i read the label like crazy and now my daughter helps me when I reach for a product I haven't tried before. Sometimes, I think I want to make my own sauces and go back to the way it was in the olden days when you prepared your own food, with out added "junk", I am going back to the kitchen to cook more often, my kids deserve it too, this is healthy way of eating

  • @Bonnie90505 I too am interested in making my own sauces. The convenience of commercial sauces is great, but there comes a point where I simply refuse to be a consumer of the "at least cost" food trough. I'll be really upset though if Frank's Hot Sauce (the mainstay of my Buffalo Wings recipes) starts adding corn syrup or sugar in it.

  • great info. I am in the process of 'studying' about this diet and there is much to learn and read. Thank you so much. I ordered the new atkins book and can't wait to read it and until then I am reading everything I can on the subj of low carb. My problem is so far, I can't find anything that says to limit the calorie amount daily. so I am hoping to find that answer in the book. thanks again for all of your videos.

  • I have made a video on this topic. It's called "Should I count calories on Induction?," and it directly addresses this topic. The short answer is eat when you are hungry according to the rules, and you should not need to count Calories for the purpose of limiting them on the Atkins Diet during Induction.

The only time I ever counted Calories and paid attention to them was to ensure I was eating ENOUGH of them not too much of them.

  • I really believe you giving to others has helped you keep the weight off. it is such a blessing for others and yourself, you are a great inspiration. I will be doing a modified atkins for life as well to make sure that none of the weight I lost this year will ever come off. I also think I must give back somehow to hep others like you do.

  • Yep, there is definitely some self-interest at work in making videos as when you teach you are continuously causing yourself to keep learning and to keep applying former lessons. It would be easier to slough off and not potentially do the difficult tasks (like run 16 milers on the weekend) if one didn't feel accountable to others.

So I by all means encourage other success stories to keep up making videos or assisting others.

  • Excellent video!

  • i needed this video! i have been in the induction phase for two weeks. i lost ten pounds. i wanted to stay in induction until i got near my goal. i was wondering how to know what to look for in a product, and logged on to youtube and seen this video!!! thank you for helping us, thank you for your time!

  • You are very welcome!

  • thx exaclty what i needed.

  • Thanks for watching!

  • great video.... good advice.

  • Thank you - it was one of those videos I was called to make...

  • if people don't get access to the book.. they can always check out the Atkins official website and they tell you everything there... it talks about the foods you can eat and they share recipies as well =)

  • I hear you. The source of the information is out there, and I just hope this video is one more cue for them to find it and be self-sufficient. The Atkins website, countless internet forums (like AtkinsDietBulletinBoard), and other low carb sites AboutDOTcom all have the information needed to get through each of the phases. It is just a matter of searching for it.
