I don't think it's a miss so much as a really good hit. Slicing a small piece off without the apple moving is harder than splitting the apple in half. Of course he (or she) may have missed but the end result was damn good.

He didn't miss the apple accedently. He was probably not cutting through teh apple conpletely because fruit like that stain your sword really badly. I did this to an apple once and forgot to wipe my sword now there is a big stain on the blade.
