  • 0:30 ----> "reeeettaaainnnerrr"<----- HAHAHA

  • hahaaaa, that is AMERICA!!!

  • Lmao

  • did he just goto a job interview.....not take the job and walk out with like 73 bucks?!!!

  • @rylandorr Without giving too much away he was just trying to impersonate his friend, because this interview was rly for his friend who did not want to go.

  • Thumbs up if you ever rocked a pair of blue striped tube socks.

  • Keep your ear to the grindstone.

  • IS this is an interview? I can't stand affleck.

  • Sperry shoes and white socks with a suit!

    Love it.

  • @Shakyhotdog84 I always do that... guess i was always angry when people told me its wrong... so i just always use white socks <,<

  • Comment removed

  • What I really laughed about was his suit. It wasn't that bad when he was sitting, but when he stood up? Classic.

  • ...What the fuck just happened?!?!

  • RETAAAAIIIINEEEEEERRR!!!!

  • LOL...YOU WISH U COULD GET THAT KIND OF DEAL IN TODAY'S JOB MARKET

  • Surely the punchline is when he stands up and reveals the real horror of that suit. proper gut laugh.

  • i like afflecks boston accent, its funny as fuck. RETAINER.

  • local jobs hiring now careerstartlocation .info employers looking now

  • High waters!

  • This was the much needed comedy in a serious film. I laughed through almost every part of this scene. You need that lift.

  • It's a think tank, egg heads like these are really gullible. Completely believable, lol. In the real world, street smarts beat book smarts, seen it a thousand times.

  • @2000USAStreet Thats what people in the ghetto tell themselves. Guess why they live in the ghetto?

  • @movcrit Don't assume someone is somehow less intelligent because their socio-economic status is lower than yours. Plenty of smart people come from poor neighborhoods. It's important to have good instincts and be perceptive of your surrounding and the intentions of others to survive in this world. Acquiring book smarts is a matter of hard work and determination whereas the other comes from experience or natural awareness. When you're blessed with "god-given" intellect it just comes easier.

  • @MrCombine Um I lived in a very low income neighborhood and could be termed the "ghetto" (I lived next to the high school where they filmed the movie substitute 2 in 2 room apartment with my 7 other siblings if that doesn't constitute as being poor or living in a poor neighborhood please inform me)

    2. Good instincts and "being perceptive" are not marketable skills for the "real world" or what you call street smarts is actually called experience. Yes, experience is alway better then any degree.

  • When people talk about street smarts what they are really saying is competency and experience. Not you something you pick up from the streets over education. Good instincts and being perceptive could result from experience but none of which is all that useful objectively. You can't justify investing someone's savings on stock based on "instinct" or your perceptive senses rather you use skills to provide objectivity for why you choose that stock.

  • @MrCombine the problem with society today is that while you can receive some relevant job experience before you get your degree through internships it still pails in comparison to someone who was able to be self-taught in the skills necessary to do the job. One side of education wants you to get through school ASAP teaching the bare minimum skills for a job while dropping less relevant things like art, social science, and humanities while the other requiring for a full liberal arts education.

  • @movcrit @movcrit But depending on your field, internships are the key to finding a job or building a resume. They are what sets you apart from other people, and most of all, what help you get a foot in the door. Now in a field like film or journalism you have to network, volunteer your self as much as possible. At that point being talented just isn't enough whatsoever, you have to know the right person. Plenty of people with "average" intelligence are successful based on emotional intelligence.

  • The so-called book smarts versus street smarts debate really is stupid simply because neither concepts really exist exclusive of one another. Book smarts (if by meaning good grades, getting a degree etc) and Street Smarts (experience, practical skills) are both seen on almost all resumes. People who go to school do actually develop practical skills and through internships can develop experience. People who have practical skills usually excel decently in school.

  • The only difference here is that anyone can say they have street smarts but you have to actually prove that you have book smarts. Thats why when I see the statement street smarts beat book smarts I must make an assertion against it because I believe its fundamentally flawed and untrue. You can't do Algebra or Calculus if you never had some kind of book smarts and no one would believe you could do the math unless if you could prove through pieces of papers called a degree/diploma.

  • @movcrit But these days, anyone can get degree. What you do besides that degree is what makes the difference. I have plenty of friends in high school who are geniuses, and I'm not just saying that. They spent all their time studying that they overlooked something important. Networking, experience etc. I find"Street smarts" to be a very, vague term. Besides the job field, those people tend to know very little outside of what they learned in books. Just my experience. Perhaps yours is different.

  • To clarify my statement's meaning (as context matters), if a person who lives in a poor environment believes that their own skills and experience can get them more successful then if they use some kind of an education then they are either wrong or in for a big gamble. I don't mean everyone has to get a 4year degree or something (that would be impossible) but use some organized clear distinct career path. If you can teach your self graduate mathematics why not? GL with that though.

  • @movcrit I agree with you completely. I'm not advocating one over the other, but clear goals are paramount to be "successful". The reality is that in this world, we're all educated. Some us were educated in classrooms, some simply living on the streets or out in the world, and others were lucky enough to get both. How you use what you've learned to reach your goal is what it comes down to. There are pro's and con's to each without a doubt.

  • I love that movie but Ben affleck's a douchebag.

  • Keep your ear to the grindstone.

  • Allegedly, lol

  • "Reeeeetttaaaiiiinnneeeeerrrrr, retainer"

  • This is a funny scene but not very realistic, who in the world would give cash from their pocket to someone in an interview regardless on how good they are. Not only the interviewers are not stupid but also they are there to represent the interests of the company they work for, they have no incentive to personally finance anyone to accept a position!

  • @LeontariF1 they're also very rich :P

  • The interviewer on the right doesn't even riffle through his wallet. what a cheapskate.

  • The NSA interview was the best

  • LMFAO!!

  • "...and until that day comes. Keep your head to the grind stone."

It may be because I myself am an idiot, however after seeing this scene I'm not entirely sure who the real "genius" is.

  • 13 people don't like dem apples

  • @thatvoiceagain and @papelpapi both ya'll suckuz iz mad stoopit ... ya'll prolly live wit yo mommaz n sh!t and ya'll dun kno caca bout no moviez

  • Girls who get turned off by white socks and slacks have NOT watched Good Will Hunting.

  • tube socks and boat shoes at an interview. Man he must have alot to offer them to come in like that hahaa

  • I love how he's sitting so far from them!

  • This was an unnecessary scene and it should have ended up on the cutting room floor.

  • @ThatVoiceAgain No. It showed that Will wasn't taking the job interviews that Lambeau set him up with seriously, and it did it in a funny, lighthearted way while utilizing Chuckie, as opposed to having Will just tell Lambeau, "I'm not going to those job interviews."

So maybe, I don't know, you should consider sucking a fat one?

  • @papelpapi Jesus fucking christ- chill out LMAO

  • @ThatVoiceAgain I just popped that into a youtube-to-English translation site on google, and it came out with "I just got smoked in this argument." My youtube is shaky at best - is that accurate?

  • @papelpapi Not really. Subjectively, I think it's an awful scene and it would have been better to handle it just the way you suggested towards the end of your rant. Feel free to devour my shaft now, fan boy.

  • I used to hate Ben Affleck and I don't really know why. I mean, he's a fair actor, has a sense of humor about himself, had sex with Jennifer Lopez and Jennifer Garner, and made a shitload of money I wish was mine. I think he's cool now, am I wrong???

  • @deathfalk Get a life!

  • @Bynkers83 Good luck with that.

  • @deathfalk Ben Afleck, Ben Afleck, Ben Afleck, Ben Afleck bla bla bla

  • @Bynkers83 Good luck with that.

  • can someone give the transcript?

  • Let me tell ya something...12 people...ya dislikes on dis cilp...YA SUSPECT

  • @BobbyButtCheeks31177 15 now. MOTHER FUCKERS!!!

  • Keep ya eahr to tha grindstone

  • tube socks. hahah.

  • Reeeeeeeeetaaaaaaineeeeeer.....retainer.

  • i thought ben affleck was a retard all movie but he sounds pretty damn smart in this clip

  • PAAHAHAHAHAHAA

  • Gotta love the white socks with the blue deck shoes. First time I saw this I was I was laughing so hard and I kept rewinding the dvr and my wife was all; whats so funny?

  • His suit is perfect ;p Especially the trousers :) Funny

  • snidely whiplash quickly comes to mind

  • Keep your ear to the grindstone!

  • The look on the asian guy's face says it all.

  • I love how the guy on the right's,like,"Fuck this".

  • I never understood this part. Will sent his friend to interview on his behalf? And what is a retainer?

  • @MikeDunn retainer = money paid up front for work to be done later

  • @MikeDunn Not clear if sent as his representative, or just in his place as a joke. A retainer is agreed-upon money paid to a consultant usually on a monthly basis, although in this case the Affleck character appears to confuse it with an upfront signing bonus, which is part of the confusion and hilarity.

  • @MikeDunn -.-

  • this is definitely one of the funniest scenes in the movie lol

  • Inspirational Quote of the Day:

"...Alegedly, your situation, for you, would be concurrently improved if I had $200 in my back pocket right now>>>"

  • RETAINEEEEEER!!! LOL

  • @exh6192 ... retainer.

  • "...and until that day comes, keep your ear to the grind stone." HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • @IngloriusBastard11 Correct. In a few years, these dickhead HR recruiters at many of these companies will get the BAD KARMA that's coming to them. These HR fags think it's okay to jerk desperate people around--people that need to pay rent. They have it good right now because it's an employers' market, giving them a a greater degree of power than they've ever had before. Well, they should enjoy it while it lasts, because in a few years, these incompetent losers will be out on the streets.

  • @joshspiker In a few years it will be us that is out on the streets. Jobs are leaving America and they won't ever come back. We saved the billionaires and billion dollar companies at the expense of an entire class of poor and middle income people. I don't have the hope you have.

  • @mongoose704 I see your point. What you say is very true. This is the reason why guys like you and me have to save as much as possible so that we can start our own businesses and/or invest our money is various investment vehicles. Banks aren't lending money, and investors are being very cautious/selective at this time. For once, I'd like to turn the tables by telling my former supervisors that I won't be needing their services anymore.

Screw Corporate America. It is the bridge to nowhere...

  • legendary, who else could get away with that lmao

  • Ben Affleck's job interview scene in this film compares well to his job interview scene in "Boiler Room".

  • lmfao

  • ys suspect....i dont know what your reputation in town - ben affleck is amazing in these white socks!!! great scene

  • what song is that in the background?

  • Guys below...lighten up???? Retainer.

  • the skunk eye by the guy on the right cracks me up every time.

  • lmao!

  • til that day......

  • You guys have to be kidding me right? arguing about IQ, when it is proven that IQ's does not show real intelligence.

  • iq is very reflective of true intelligence...the people who bitch about them not showing intelligence are the people with low quotients.

  • @yahoopl3, I wonder what Gods IQ is. Get the fuck out of here, it's not what "cookies" you got or what you "say", it's what you've done.

Low quotants, motherfucker are you serious? Your meaning and pursuit of life is equated to low quotants? Ayye, motherfucker... get the fuck outta here and do something with ya life, ya faggot!

  • nah, what you've done has a lot to do with perseverance and all that other shit...iq is all about intelligence, of which you obviously have very little...."quotants"...lmaololololol....get back on the short bus son

  • @yahoopl3 I disagree. The only reason why so many people get low scores is because you cannot prepare for the IQ test. The test is random questions with similar answers. So it is hard to choose the right answer. However, if you took the iq test over and over again, you can get use to it and even you can score very high. That is why IQ test cannot measure someones' intelligence.

  • Not preparing is the whole point...lmaololol...do you realize that if you could study specific questions for an IQ test like you were taking a SAT and were also given over 1 hour to answer each question, that everyone would be classified as a genius? Not being given much time and not being able to prepare is the whole point. That's what intelligence IS. You little people crack me up, lol

  • @yahoopl3 Intelligence is an abstract idea and cannot be measured as a whole by tests. If you look at the movie, it is telling you that no matter how smart the guy is, he cannot overcome his problems on his own. In other words, you can be very intelligent in one area and be ignorant in another. IQ tests do not tell you how smart or dumb a person is. Another example, In the very beginnings IQ test were design to see any psychological problem in prisoners.

  • I think that I"m just as fast as the world record holder in the 100 meter dash. If you give me 20 seconds to run the 100 meter dash I can do it too. Therefore, I'm an olympic sprinter and should be in the olympics, getting all the endorsement money from sponsors. Yeah, that's the ticket ! IQ = Intelligence Test. If you have a problem with what intelligence truly is, stick to tests that measure your emotional sensitivity and social aptitude. That will make you feel better.

  • @yahoopl3 Well, I really dont know what you meant by your answer. -.-'

  • @yahoopl3, perspective is based 'pon the IQ test too. You can go to an alternate reality or another world in this reality and you would fail their IQ test and vice versa or have complete different results to the test you had at home. But hey, go fuck yourself faggot. Whatever makes you sleep and feel better at night, yo. If I were 2 tell you, you are one of the dumbest people in the world because you are following a social class of people to maintain the prison in yo mind, would u believe me?

  • IQ reflects how well you can write a test.

  • and fail one

  • that's what people with bad results sticks to...

  • @salasporsiempre just because you can memorize a bunch of shit on a test does not indicate that someone is intelligent.

  • @MGX memorising isnt the key, it's about understanding.

  • @MGX IQ doesn't reflect shit. There are at least 11 different forms of 'intelligence' and this is known. Intelligence Quotas reflect peoples' faculties in abstract, generally spatial reasoning and sometimes a little more. Some of the stupidest people I know score over 150 and the three smartest people I know, all of whom received UAI's (like SAT's I think, here in Australia) of 100, didn't make 100. Concededly the UAI is inconclusive as well. But IQ means nothing.

  • @jezmuff i think freethinking isn't taken into account when testing IQ. I know many ppl with degree's or currently studying who just memorize and recite 4 tests or copy from the net. I know ppl with very high IQ's who couldn't give an original opinion 2 save their life. Lets be honest, the education system promotes it. It's funny, if u r a sharp free thinker, u write ur essay & then u spend most of ur time justifying its merit with references. Its like justifying how u knew 1+1 = 2.

  • OK, I decided to take a look at this more closely. The Boston metro area has 4,522,858 residents, of which about 250,000 are university students. That leaves a non-student population of about

4,273,000. "Genius" level IQ represents 1/270th of the population. For Boston, this would be a (native) genius population of 15,826. Harvard University consists of 7,160 undergrads, and 2,107 faculty, or 9,267 individuals in all. There are 1,642 GSAS graduate students as well. 10,909 < 15,826(!)

  • "You could speak to my aforementioned attorney" LOL

  • $84K a year? That's it? Even for 90's rate, that's pretty weak.

  • How much do you think Mathematicians make? That's a *full professor's* salary circa 1995.

  • Yeah, I think of this scene and 'Trainspotting' where Spud goes to an interview juiced-up, whenever I'm waiting for some troll to start a job interview.

  • i've heard a retainer does not necessarily have to be money but could be any aspect of a person's life that keeps them in a particular place.

  • This is hilarious XDD

  • the guy on the left just starring at him like what an asshole

  • Oh no, now I need to ring every TV station that I have watched this film on and tell the company that burns the Good Will Hunting DVDs that about half way through someone inserted a clip from a different film.........

  • Why do you? its all the same film

  • Bakerboy619 said that this clip wasn't in the film Good Will Hunting - I was being sarcastic as it obviously is but the comment has been deleted so what I wrote now makes no sense!

  • Yes it is.

  • he come across as cocky in the interview.

  • "Until that day... keep your ear to the grindstone." Hahahahaha

  • Great fucking movie!

  • 1 of the bests

  • hands down the best things about this clip are his high waters and tube socks...

  • i could never tell if the short sleeves and pants were the funniest part, or the line "Let me tell you something. Ya' suspect!"

  • Ben does good in roles when he plays what he is..A prick from Boston...If he doesnt...Meh

  • "Ben does good in roles when he plays what he is..A douche from Cambridge...If he doesnt...Meh"

    fixed

  • yay! At least i had the right state woot!..Im glad you Googled that for me =)

  • Googled what?

  • This scene is hilarious.

  • so that dude was born smart.

  • i coundnt understand anything that dude was talking about hahaha

  • thats the whole point!

  • @SK3RO ya suspect...yah you

  • ya suspect!

  • @kewltony fkn

  • looooooooooool thats hustle

  • This is so classy.

The too-small suit is funny enough, but the icing on the cake is the white gym socks. Affleck is the king of dirtbaggery.

  • ROFL ''Dirtbaggery'' My word of the day, thanks.

  • I wear white gym socks and dress pants to work every day. That's how we roll in Boston.

  • Comment removed

  • @KureKurevic Those are not White gym socks!! They have black stripes around the top. Stop trying to sell Ben's Classy Suit short!! ;)

  • There is a very similar scene in Trainspotting where the skinny heroin junkie (forgot his name) is in a job interview. Very funny too. "your suspect !" LOL

  • haha, yep. Spud was his name....except he royally effed up the interview.

"in a word---Pleasure. Pleasure in other people's leisure" brilliant!

  • Mike McD and Will Hunting are NOTHING like.

  • youre a fucking moron for even beginning to comtemplate whether or not this was the same character he played in rounders, being a math genius and a good poker player have absolutely nothing in common with one another

  • oh shut up

  • "I know what you're thinkin... you're thinkin he played an ace to scare ya into uppin the ante and doublin the kitty... but seein as how aces only appear every thirty-nine flips on average... he's really got two kings three pieces of junk... but you're too blind to see that cos the queen you picked up in the last draw's got you chasin a hail mary... only problem is his one-handed shuffle put the jack at the bottom of the pack... and the 3:10 from Chicago was late... with the deuce at the wheel..

  • "Yeah well listen up, yougurtpimp, your thinkin I'm all out of aces after my last hit, but you forgot to factor in the french shuffle and the sticky varnish on that shiny new deck... so there's a one to one-thousand chance you'll get four jacks as long as you've got a hour to spare... cos that's how long it'll take those boys to show their pretty faces... but you've already lost the game to a pair of quads, a quad of pairs, and your brain becoming the victim of of the ol' zoot suit slam..."

  • Look at the guy's face on the right! ba ga ga ga ga! I love Matt's monologue about the NSA, but this is the scene I look forward to every time I watch this movie...between Ben's highwaters, and the way he handles the cash between his fingers...too much! That guy's face on the right...how he holds it together I'll never know! Great acting :)

  • The whole movie is built around this scene. There's no other way it could have happened. Toots toots!!!!

  • lemme tell ya something, you're suspect. LOL greatest line ever.

  • his character could never pull this off. Still cool.
