let me tell you what to get without spending that much: intel core i7 930 with coolermaster v8 aftermarket cpu cooler, overclock it to 4.2ghz, and run 2 gigabyte 5850's in crossfire. i use an asus rampage 3 motherboard with corsair dominator gt 6gb but you dont have to spend that much on the basic parts. very powerful and cost effective system setup, and you can use an 850w powersupply.

I wouldn't brag on these fps. If you notice also in the vid he has pretty clear skies and no planes in the airport and still lagging with his i7 which is pretty bad I have a quad core with everyting turned up and with 8 different addons and looks a whole lot better

@benzboy77 it also depends on the video recorder he is using. fraps and some others kill your fps, so while the video looks like crap, it could run very well, and also no computer will make this game look amazing because the engine is so messed up.

FSX only take advantage of 2 cores, so the other ones won't make a game difference, however they will allow you to do other things while flying and will keep your computer from lagging. That's why there isn't much an improvement with the I-7s and FSX compared to older processors.

I payed 580 for an i3 2.95ghz 6gb ram. I think it should run this game as well as he did, considering fsx loves simple powerful procesors, my processor is just as powerful but not as complex as an i7, but if I want to I can upgrade to an i7

no, you can't just "upgrade" to an i7. you'll have to get a new motherboard, which is a completely different build. so no upgrade there. and yes, core i7 should overclock wayyy better than your i3. (that's why it's more expensive, and that's why the flagship extreme edition chip is an i7 and not an i3) I got my i7 running at 4.02 GHz. I've observed task manager and sometimes FSX use up to 99% CPU. so yes quad core is better. (btw, I bought my i7 + ram + mobo for only $400 :)

@Yamahaphone No. To run FSX full tilt you need to be in the 4.0GHz range to see smooth FPS if you want to use quality payware aircraft and scenery.

Otherwise, if you just want to run the vanilla game, then yes, you could probably come close. The biggest bottleneck in FSX is the processor.

amazing, im getting a new pc with the exact same specs as youre having. quad core, i7, 2.66 ghz (as opposed to your 2.93) and 295 nvida gtx. looks good, so hopefully it should run smoothly with mine as well... hopefully lol.

but im worried about the frame rate issue if i install addons to the game. hopefully with 6 GB of ram and the service packs for FSX, it wont be much of a problem.
