  • ....best ever theme for the best ever Doctor....

  • What about a rave version theme tune with the starfield titles and Graham Pearson's face in place of Tom Baker, Peter Davison or Colin Baker?

  • Also known as the Doctor Who theme supposed to be used for the 7th Doctor.

  • Bringing Them To My Eyes And.. Errm.. Thats It.

  • You Know, Sometimes I Think The Themes Are SOOOO!! Briliant, I Bring my Homemade TARDIS And SOme Lego Figures And I Fiddles With Them By....

  • After just listening to Howell's version, the middle 8 sounds slightly underwhelming, but it's still great.

  • I like the way the shooting stars have there own sounds, the middle 8 does sound like sweep.

  • One of the best Doctor Who Themes.... But then again I love them all (except for the newest version).... And by the way,,, Doctor Who WAS supposed to be creepy.... It was a children's SciFi series that became one of the most popular TV shows EVER!

  • Great theme, works especially well in the Big Finish audio dramas

  • thanks for correcting me there

  • at 0:40, it sounds like sooty trying to sing something epic

  • @LDman95 sweep, you mean sweep

  • The only one that manages to be creepier than the original

  • This is the only really creepy version of the Doctor Who theme, mostly because it sounds like the theme from The X-Files.

  • How dare you, this is the best theme eva!

  • Hated this version of the theme tune at the time and still do. No wonder they dropped it after just one Season

  • the theme would have been hell alot better if it was given its own titles. i cant see why they a) kept the howell or b) gave the glynn a new title

  • love this theme, the 1986 opening and closing titles are my favorites

  • could you send me the theme music plzzzz

  • @jampox101 danny stewart dot com. You want to choose DG Closing Master

  • @jampox101 If all else fails, Google Dominic Glynn Danny Stewart remixes

  • If anyone else thinks this theme is great, thumbs away everyone! (by "thumbs away" I mean Thumbs up)

  • @Corrupt5358 No, the doctor himself wasn't diabolical, I think you'll agree that it's his stories that are. I.E: Timelash, absolutely not.

  • ending music loved it,DUM DUM DUUUUUM DDOOOOO DOOOO DOODO!

  • hey dude couod send me this

  • @doctorwhofan51 Danny Stewart dot com. Choose DG Closing Master. That's the official edited closing version.

  • @doctorwhofan51 If all else fails, Google Dominic Glynn Danny Stewart remixes

  • What's 'clean' mean? Hey, that rhymes! I'm a poet and I didn't knoet (know it)!

  • @Ironseagull24 it means theres so words. so in this titles theres no credits.

  • @DoctorWho1395 Okay, right thanks.

  • I always felt Colin got a bad deal during his tenure. People complained about his stories but let's face it, every Doctor had his share of horrible scripts. A lot of new things were tried and unfortunately failed instead of getting rid of him, the BBC and Michael Grade should have replaced John Nathan Turner and much of the production department with fresh faces.

  • @werewolfantipaladin Sylvestor Mccoy had a run of bad scripts as well. A real pity as he was one of my favourite doctors.

  • @BrionyCoote Yeah, but his last series was excellent and would have been even greater if it was not canceled and the Cartmel Master Plan continued.

  • i love this theme, well, this version of the theme...i wonder if they use this theme in the 6th Doctor's lost stories (Mission to Magnus, Nightmare Faire etc)

but yeah, awesome theme, thats for uploading this :)

    10 out of 10

again, thanks for uploading it mate

  • DVD Extras are great, arn't they????

  • Always made me think of Time Lord chamber musicians singing about a renegade they once knew a long time ago and all thetrouble he used to cause. . .

  • This is my favourite version. This one and the original are the best. Colin Baker likes this arrangement too.

  • i like tyis theme coz it gives u an alien feel

  • This theme is brilliant!

The beats from 0:40 gives it a proper Doctor Who feel, and in my opinion, the best theme ever!

  • i AGREE!!!! THUMBS UP!!!

  • @ponyandduck Ah. You noticed! Hmm.

  • Colin was the unsung hero of the doctors and the best with peter davidson, paul mcgann and chris eccleston as second and joint third in my opinion.

  • This has inspired me to buy the Trial of a Timelord box set

  • Nice!!!this was the most atmospheric theme.

  • some ass hole said that this was the worst theme in doctor who historey but in my opininion that was the mccoy theme but i still like it

  • I know some of the clean titles/credits were easter eggs on the DVDs, but "Trial" isn't out yet, so where did you find it?

  • He took video of the Colin Baker credits and dubbed in the Glynn theme.

  • I really should've guessed, eh? My bad.

  • I think I can answer that, I expect he took the clean ones from the other CB episodes and used the Trial theme over the top, simple, I'd do that if that was me.

  • I think that lots of people underestimate Colin Baker. He wasn't a bad doctor, the script writers were just running out of material making his series appear bad.

  • This theme is so much better than the '84 theme :D

  • Wow! Trial is coming to DVD soon. YES!!!

  • Coming out in August (or sooner) in the UK, coming out on October 7th in North America.

  • Colin Baker rules, with the Technicolour coat, in a way Trial of a Timelord was a better "last" story for the 6th doctor than wahat Time and the Rani would have been

  • Very Sorry about that, got the patience of a fly!!

    Brandon

  • Whenever i listen to this music, it makes me feel like i'm in the eighties watching this on tv.

  • I know this might sound very "techie". The 80's was the decade that the first FM (Frequency Modulated) synthesizers were made. Early FM synthesizers are very distinctive in the way that they sound, this theme tune is a very good example. :)

  • Yes, these ones have a very different sound to (e.g.) the analogue ones used in the early 1980s and even the hybrid wavetable/digital-synth ones used in the late 80s.

It very strongly ties this version down to the mid-80s time it was made.

  • the middle eight reminds me of the previous ABC (australian) news theme.

  • I think the music sounds so, well, eighties! For some reason, even though it was quite modern at the time, the Fifth Doctor's theme tune sounds lesser eighties than this now! Though at the time is was the opposite! How bazaar!

  • I'd go further and say that the very "clean" and distinctive sound of the early digital synths give it a very obvious (and specific) *mid*-80s sound. To the point that (had I not already known), I'd probably date this between 1985 and 1987.

Although it used (then) modern tech, Peter Howell's version is much more layered and makes more original use it (e.g. vocodered instruments). That's probably why it isn't so in-your-face-of-its-time(!) as this version, which is a bit off-the-shelf.

  • When I was in high school I had a friend who had a little sister and she had a lot of dolls and her room was entirely done in pink and she had red striped heart shaped pillows... and this music just makes me remember her for some reason.

  • Nice!!!

  • There's some sort of harmony between the theme and the visuals that makes the whole thing "work", but I can't quite place what it is...

  • The sting reminds me of something else! I can't think what, possibly Rentaghost sound effects, but its something else too.

  • I love that sting at the start.

  • i love this one for some reason

  • the reason is probally, because its great.......

  • this was the most atmospheric theme.

  • Man, is it just me or does the "middle eight" remind anyone else of a news programs theme, because it almost sounds like an excerpt from Australia's ABC news theme (the previous one, not the crappy one they have now)?

  • I don't know if anyone reading this will have seen it, but on another video I left a comment saying that I disliked the closing credits' sting. However, listening to it more, I've decided that it isn't so bad after all. Just telling you!

  • fair play!

  • What was the vid

  • I will always remember my formerself...

  • nice work. how'd u get it without the words though?

  • It was the "clean" version of the titles from "The Two Doctors" DVD. (it's a "hidden" special ferature on there, on the main menu, go down to "episode selection" and press the "right" key to highlight the hidden logo and press "select/enter"), and then re-dubbed it with the "trial" theme.

  • you lie

  • Im not lying.

  • well i tryed what you said and it didn't work

  • It so obviously DID work. You must be lying if you say it doesn't work. **YOU LIE!!!**

  • no it didn't work

  • *Dalek voice* YES IT DID!!! YOU LIE!!!

  • how did you uget it for the others though?

  • They are from other DVDs. The hartnell one hasn't been released as the original titles film has been destroyed. The troughton one is hidden on Tomb of the Cybermen, the Pertwee mk1 titles are hidden on Carnival of Monsters, the Tom Baker mk1 titles are on Talons of Weng-Chiang, the Davison titles are hidden on Resurrection of the Daleks, the Colin Baker mk1 titles are hidden on Two Doctors and the Sylvester McCoy titles are a special feature on Curse of Fenric.

  • if the trial of the timelord was out on dvd it would in a box set. very cool!

  • yeah, i think it would be better (and cheaper!!!) if they released them out on their original "sub-stories".

  • yes me too

  • Or they could do both (like they did with The Key to Time and New Beginnings sets).

  • The ket to time hasn't been released over here yet although it will be soon. new beginnings has been released but with all the sepearate DVD boxes in one bigger box.

  • Ah. Over here, both the Key to Time and New Beginnings sets were released both individually and collected together.

  • A little birdy told me it's coming out soon!

  • what is???

  • Trial of a Time Lord. And it is. Sometime before the end of the year.

  • What, It's coming out on BBC DVD? Brilliant!!

  • What, It's coming out on BBC DVD? Brilliant!!

  • What, It's coming out on BBC DVD? Brilliant!!

  • Yes. Take a look on tardis[dot]wikia[dot]net[slash]wiki[slash]BBC[underscore]DVD . It's a COMPLETE list of all DVDs (of Doctor Who and its spin-offs)! (The Trial of a Time Lord is near the bottom)

  • sorry but Netscape (my browser) doesn't recognise the link.

put spaces between the marks like:

    tardis . wikia . net / wiki / bbc _ dvd

  • But can you get onto it?

  • Ive not seen it yet, not been on for a bit, i'll have a look later

  • Okay. I've just noticed a mistake in the address I gave - it's . com , not . net . Sorry!

  • Mate, that is brilliant

  • I have downloaded a FULL, 2 minute something mp3 version of this theme. Although I can't remember where now!

  • This is my favorite version of the theme. Thanks a bunch for this. :)

  • My pleasure. I love Dominic Glynn's theme too. :)

  • Which DW DVD is this an extra on?

  • It's a hidden feature on the Two Doctors DVD, but the titles on there use the Peter Howell theme. I have redubbed them with the Dominic Glynn theme. Hope that helps!

  • Where did u get the theme???

  • I recorded it off my copy of episode eight of The Trial of a Time Lord. The original Dominic Glynn opening and closing themes have never been commercially released anywhere, so for all intents and purposes they do not exist. I recorded mine off an episode and cleaned it up a bit.

  • You Know what i'm going to say now! Please send me the THEME!!! You know the Address

  • You know, if you want so many themes I've posted, you might want to look into getting some kind of audio recording software and record the sound from the video. It would be a lot more convenient for both of us.

  • I would, but I don't know where I Can get Trial of a Timelord

  • No, I meant record the theme off of my videos. That would be helpful for a lot of things -- not just my themes.

  • THANKS FOR PUTTING THIS ON.

    RODNEY

  • eBay?

  • Ebay?

  • It was released on A BBC CD sometime in 1986. I don't know what it was called!

  • Dominic Glynn's full-length extended theme has been released on numerous albums. However his opening and closing themes have never been released.

  • It's not an extra on any Dr Who DVD as "Trial" isn'tavailable on Divvy yet.

  • Ace.

  • Yeah, I'd say that the Sixth Doctor was fuckin' Ace too, but that was the Seventh Doctor.

  • i'd say they were all 'Ace'

  • everyone seems to be ignoring this or not getting the horrible joke I just cracked.

  • Congrats to the first person to get this! You're fuckin' Ace!
