  • Chanting the name of the Buddha is popular among the Pure Land Buddhist.

  • lovely video. check out my video on chanting the mystic law

  • Why is it bothering some of you that this guy is sharing this with the world?. Nitchren buddism encourages exactly this. Use your voice Nammyohorengekyo. What better way to spread your faith?

  • Chant were ever YOU want by the sea ,film it ! we are FREE to do what we want !

    We are Buddhist !

  • Já li em impressos da SGI brasileira que NAM_MYOHO_RENGUE_KYO além de ter muitos significados também quer dizer MUITO OBRIGADO DO FUNDO DO MEU CORAÇÂO.

  • There's no real reason whatsoever to chant in any language other than your own. If you can come up with a chant that's as terse and expresses the same ideas, then I'd say go ahead. Myoho renge kyo is itself a translation of Saddharma Puṇḍarīka Sūtra, or Lotus Sutra.

  • Do you HAVE to chant in an Asian language? How come no one makes chants in their own language besides Asian people??? =P

  • @GuamKomudo -Richard Causton gave a wonderful answer to your question. On his book, `The Buddha in Daily Life` he said, "The reason why the chant is not performed in the practitioner`s mother-tongue is that not only would it be more difficult to recite rhythmically in another language, but any translation would invariably-and considerably-lengthen it...Deep within our lives, our Buddha nature understands and responds to it.

  • I practice in So. Cal (USA) and generally the membership does the short version of gongyo, however, there's nothing wrong with doing the long version. I too occasionally do the Long version. Now, also know that Nichiren Daishonin said the even chanting the title of the lotus sutra (daimoku) will also yield benefit since the title is in essence the totality of the lotus sutra. So dont worry long or the short version. Just continue in your efforts of faith, practice and study.

  • Faith cruises all above stature of nature, anywhere, one can chant as free as where he wants to be, as long as he faces east, try it!!, you'll never regret, it is soothing brings goodness to your body, see all the SGI members they never grew old, they stay young as ever. If you are moody? chant, if you are happy, chant!, no matter what the earth offers to you whether suffering or enjoyment, I T R I E D IT!!

  • Greating From Italy my friends ...

    nam myoho renge kyo

  • Todos os dias celebro a vida budista, todos os dias alegro-me com a felicidade de existir. Entrego-me ao Todo NAM MYOHO RENGUE KYO!!

  • Wisdom is the sharing of wise experiences and knowledge, but a lot of it is common sense. The difference is how we apply this common sense - we all have the ability to keep going even when we face challenges in our lives - basically it comes down to your attitude. We can have a positive attitude towards life, or a negative attitude. We can focus on the good or we can focus on the bad. Keeping a positive mental attitude is one of the keys to success.

The choice is always up to you!

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

  • Pace, compagni di fede! =)

  • nam myoho renge kyo

  • Thank you for sharing this. I leave in Kansas City and the images of the calm surf are a real treat!

    Nam myohoRenge Kyo..

    Lovley, love,love, love...namaste!

  • Let get informations about the political links of Soka Gakkai in Japan

  • Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo. {3 times}

    I'm with SGI;)

  • The SGI used to say NAMU before the 5 prayers. But have omitted it in the last decade, along with section "B" of Gongyo. Which are two of the changes that I have disagreed with and ultimately left over, to become an independent practitioner. I have never been happier.

  • I totally agree with you.. I don't really understand why they shortened the gongyo.

  • Its seems that with the change in society over the last 10-20 years, lives are busy and time is of the essence, for those with a family, job etc the idea the gongyo was shortened so not to take up 20 minutes each time twice daily. Also chanting Nam Myoho Renge Kyo - the title of the Lotus Sutra is said by Nichiren to be what's most important

  • That's said to hear, hope your life is still a happy and victorious won winning over all struggles and obstacles that come your way, and do you no long introduce people to the idea of a World full of peace? How many since you've become independent?

  • Same here. I'm an independent myself, although I use the shortened version because of the lack of time I sometimes have. However, I think they should have just left the B section as at lease optional, because I love chanting it when I have the time to do so. I also agree with needing to have Namu, because "Nam" is just the shortened rendering when you chant fast and sort of fall over the "u". lol peace bro

  • interesting idea but you dont need to chant by the sea. to post on here seems like a bit of an ego issue to me. just imo

  • Maybe it just makes a cool video =P

  • @GuamKomudo- Even so, the study of it can be-and is-pursued in many different languages to satisfy our intellecys, our conscious, thinking minds. The chant is recited in a language nobody speaks:paradoxically, it enables all people of all nationalities to pray or worship in the same way overcoming our petty differences based on nationality, gender or race. A steady growth lies in the fact that everybody learns-and benefits-from the same practice."

  • @Kazinthegarden - Need? What if he loves to chant by the sea? I think that chanting in nature is beautiful and I think it might be that you didn't understand WHY he chose to chant by the sea, which hurt your own ego, which then prompted your response to this video. Our Ego is often the reason we respond negatively to things we don't understand. Funny.....judging WHY he was chanting near the sea never entered my mind. I was just glad to view the post.

  • @KitehighTaco yes he CHOSE to chant by the sea which IS egotistical but to prove it he then FILMED it WHY? maybe you cant understand that cus you would do it yourself no doubt WHY? try to understand you ego, BUT you then judge others negatively cus of your own misguided ego beliveing you know best and wanting to preach. If you were JUST glad to view the post then no need to polute it with your negativity. maybe when you are older you will understand...maybe

  • yes it is mean more than 1 thing !

it is dificult to bring a persice translation

but Sensei said we dont have to focus on the meaning of the Word but rather than doing that we should focus on what the means for us in our lifes ! what can Daimoku do to bring more pocitive energy to our selfs it's about self changing
