Love this film,a mate of mine went to see this at the flicks, took the summer off to follow this same dream, ended up peeling spuds for a fortnight!! Pissed of home said he was knackered peeling spuds all day..lol.
I was amogst a few "extras" in the dance hall scene. The film crew wanted short hair styles and they came to what was then HMS Victory Barracks in Portsmouth for the extras. The dance hall scene was filmed in a school on the Isle of Wight and a good day was had by all, I have David Essex's autograph along with Robert Lindsays and Ringo Stars, all on the back of a piece of the script.
A holiday camp was at a nationally located site where facilities were provided for the accomodation, relaxation and entertainment of booked guests, usually set by the coast which as very popular in the 1970-80's.
But you know, he really was a teddy boy. Hes said he was in a gang, so in reality, I don't think there was much acting in this. Which makes it even better! XD
i think ringo was perfect for the beatles. simply because he didn't care about competing with other people, but just doing what was best for the song and the band. it's not about what's fashionable or in style or fashion, but substance.

Ringo Starr was a disgrace compared to his legendary contemporaries from this period. Moon (JD Clover here), Bonham, Baker, Appice...the list goes on and on. Starr was sufficient and kept time - that's it. The real talent in the Beatles were at the front of the stage.
yes i do i play drums actualy, which is why i know you are talking kiddie talk - real experienced musicians dont make comments like you did, kids in playgrounds at school argueing about their favourite bands make those kind of stupid comments. "Jay-z is better that Lady-ga-ga, she sucks!" - "No! no!, Zay-z sucks more lady ga-ga is better!" - blah blah etc. kiddie talk for poseurs basicaly.

I've been playing drums for 15 years, mate. I can tell you're a kid AND a poser - based upon your spelling, grammar and examples. Once you learn some more about the instrument, you'll find out that rumors abound that Ringo didn't even lay down drum tracks on the majority of the early records. He was rubbish, kid. Sorry.
Some people say Ringo was a lucky lad to be in The Beatles, but The Beatles did not think so, they seen star quality in Ringo when they first met him and he proves it once again in this film.
aaww how good looking is ringo?? :D i can't wait ti get this film :D love the Beatles and Ringo :) he looks a bit like that guy of grease, the one who John Travolta played just with the hair though lol
Gosh, it takes me back. I remember we were all so shocked when David Essex cut his hair for his film. It was shorter than you see here, the film starts with him in school uniform (now, THAT was droolworthy) before he drops out and leaves home.
(sighs) and I met and talked to him both before and after this film was made. Those were the days.
@playmate3186 "[Adam Faith] was in the squeal i think its called stardust.." Yes I know, as you would have seen if you'd read my other comments a few below that one. At this point they're on page 5 of these comments :)
This isn't totally fiction. Ringo worked as a waiter on a cruise ship before he became a drummer, and was playing in a band at a 'holiday camp' when John & Ringo asked him to be in the Beatles.
actually he was in a band rory and the hurricanes before joining the beatles they were big in liverpool in the 50's before the beatles producer asked them to play for them and got rid of pete best

Na ringo starr was in a circus before he joined the beatles. He was blown out of a cannon at the finale of every show. I knew someone who used to work at the same circus as ringo he told me they were going to promote ringo to be a lion tamer but 1 night on a night off the beatlkes turned up to watch the circus and were impressed by ringo so much they asked him to be their drummer. Not many people know this.
Yeah, ebay is the way to go, just bought this last week there. But you'll probably have to get it in VHS, don't think I saw any DVD of this movie for sale.
Me mam saw Ringo when he was in Rory Storm and The Hurricanes at Butlins, Pwllheli (Wales) in 1960

If you look closely, the saxophone player in the scene with the singer is Graham Bond, about a year before he committed suicide . . .

He`s probably still Graham ond even if you don`t look closely. :-)
