i'm only 16 years old , and when i try to stretch in the way u did
i feel pain in my hips bones
do u have a solution for that ? i can do a side split like you exactelly , not 180 deg but like u , though , i can't kick high , i can only open my legs 90 deg in the air !!
Just keep stretching slowly and kicking slowly and you should start making progress. Also make sure your kicking technique is correct and try to achieve a round fluent motion. Cheers.
@9kontaris9 Hey i'm a 32 year old female i tried to put something in my VG but i couldnt spread my legs wide enuff so i tried your excercises and guess what? after a week of practicing i did it thank you for your help!
@9kontaris9 Hey i'm a 32 year old female i tried to put something in my VG but i couldnt spread my legs wide enuff so i tried your excercises and guess what? after a week of practicing i did it thank you for your help
Hey, I have a question, I was stretching for a a few days now and I can get my leg up high but I can't fully extend it, it's always bent through the knee, which muscles should I stretch to get it to extend fully?
I'm 16 years of age and 6ft tall, I cannot kick my leg higher than my waist as awful as that sounds, I'm looking to be able to do what you do, side sicks, martial arts kicks alot more height etc. If I do these excercises daily, in time will I be able to do such things?
Thank you very much for explanation! I have some questions to you: Is it enough for doing high kicks only to sit in the splits, or you should train something else except this? I'm very closer to the right front split, but there is still a big distance in my side one. So, what split is more important for high kicks, front or a side?
Brilliant video. I've been boxing for 21 years now..im 29 years old now and just transitioning into Muay Thai Boxing, so after years of keeping my feet planted, boxing, i need to get those kicks above waist height..im fine for the body kicks but want to be able to perform the high kicks also. So assuming i spend 5-6 mins stretching in this manner...twice a day....5-6 days a week..this will assist both my kicking technique and the height at which i can kick??
@Kinuhbud Hi there....my kicks are phenomonally higher than before...i cn use the High Thai , Muay thai kick with absolute ease now so we are talking head height an above...these exercises given by 9Kontaris9 hve helped me beyon belief...also..i hve my first competetive Muay Thai fight in 3 weeks :D...this has helped an worked wonders.
Should I do 30 seconds each stretch? Also, how far or how much should i stretch out my legs with these stretches? To the point where it sort of hurts or where you feel the burn or pressue?
I'm 13/5 years old and my goal is to kick high for about 2.5 meters.Thank you for this. Anyways, this exercises is the basic for kicking high, there are more for advance.
Thanks for the vid. And I'm self training for my high school spartanette team. High kicks are the deciding factor to get in. Try outs are in may. I'm perfecting my splits first so I'll be better capable of high kicks, is this a good strategy? And do you think I'll have enough time to get the kicks down?
so basically i would have to keep stretching to kick high? and how much stretching should i do?? and if i do stretches 2 times a day how long do you think it should take me to be able to start getting more height onto my kicks? right now i can only kick about the belt area...thanks alot man good vid :)
i am laughing because of the fact that he would not leave the door unlocked while he's doing those type of exercises which means he would get disturbed if some one barges into the room un announced.
i do the streching exercises as you showed but when im done stretching should i practice my high kicks right after? because when i do practice mondays through fridays my kicks are ok not all that but after a little while like a few hours my growing of my legs get sore and i cant kick high no more and its been like that for 2 weeks and a half now.is their something that im doing wrong?thats why its like that?? please get back at me 9kontaris9 and please tell me what im doing wrong thank you!!
one thing not mentioned in the video. is actually doing high kicks. most preferably on a heavy bag. there will be a spot high on the bag that you can barely reach with your best effort high kick. you will feel a little stretch everytime you try to hit that spot. keep kicking that spot and doing these stretches. eventually you won't feel much of a stretch kicking that spot and then you raise that spot higher on the bag and do the same thing again. you will gradually start to kick higher
But what if you can't open your legs that far? I am not a very flexible person and I wanna learn a high kick, but my leg doesn't reach that high. I want to know what stretches I have to do in order to achieve the high kick, can someone tell me what stretches I can use to be this flexible?
I have very flexible hamstrings and hip flexors,i can do front splits+i can do single leg squats from top to bottom with no problem, but when i try the side split stretch my knees begin to hurt.
wow thanks for puttin up this vid... i havent dont any martial arts in a while so im getting back at it. when i used to do martial arts when i was like 9 years old, i could kick very high and i had good flexiblility... now i just can kick as high anymore... but this video definitely helped, thanks
im about to join a kickboxing class im 16 i can strech easily like that guy cuz i play soccer so im used to it but i cant seem to get my kicks that high does anyone have any tips for me?
there are different types of flexibility. It sounds like you're good dynamic stretching (such as kicking) You can be good at dynamic and not static. However static stretching will help you get more range and control, like being able to hold a side kick.
when you cant touch your toes that is not good when you are an athlete of any kind. maybe the muscles you use to kick are flexible but your other muscles arent. but otherwise idk
LOL I was just about to ask how long you're suppose to do each one, until I watched the ending of the vid. Thanks man, my friend said he'll give it a try.
wow, I didn't even notice the door behind him. he's lucky no one came busting in like "Ha bitch I smashed the door against yo back!" other then that good video.
It is anatomically impossible to stretch all the muscles on your legs as they always wor in opposite pairs(while you stretch one you cannot stretch the other).
You'll have to do several stretches to achieve that.
ive just started kickboxing but have little or no flexibility in my groin, its also really painful and stiff after a light stretch. One leg is apparently longer than the other could this be the reson?
I have good flexibility everywhere else but my groin and other kicks like snap kicks are no problem
True, if you legs are differently long the muscles could hav developed assymetrically. Nevertheless it is no reason to give up! Just go easy on yourself during the stretches and excercise every day. The you should develop groin flexibility fairlt quickly.
Of course! The flexibility determines how high and how safely you can kick, while the desired speed is attained through regular excercise of the kick.
Just stretch normally and work on your technique as most of the time you also have to feel how to use your full flexibility, i.e. you can stretch further than you can kick.
I'm currently heavily involved in Judo and Ju-Jutsu, but I have been doing Karate for over 3 years and I also had been doing some Taekwondo, though it was like 9 years ago.

It's a common problem you mention, just take it easy and rely on regulary training. Also take care that the legs are really straight, even if you won't be able to split them so far, keeping them straight is the correct way to achieve progress.
its good that they shake. it means that you're working an area of your body that isn't used to being worked out. once this improves then you know that you have progressed.
Normally, karate is more into tradition and self-defence, while muay thai is more into sports and competition. But it may differ very much depending on the gym you train in.
I'm afraid I do not know what kind of information you need.
Keep in mind that it is your own body you are about to train, thus you have to feel it, explore it and expand your limits by yourself, and no tip can be more useful than your own moments of understanding.

its good that they shake. it means that you're working an area of your body that isn't used to being worked out. once this improves then you know that you have progressed.

would you recomend karate or muay thai? Im thinking of doing a striking martial in addition to brazilian jiu jitsu. Have any advice?

It depends very much on the trainer.
Normally, karate is more into tradition and self-defence, while muay thai is more into sports and competition. But it may differ very much depending on the gym you train in.
What karate styles do you have in your vicinity?

I'm afraid I do not know what kind of information you need.
Keep in mind that it is your own body you are about to train, thus you have to feel it, explore it and expand your limits by yourself, and no tip can be more useful than your own moments of understanding.
Keep up your efforts, buddy!

Don't spread them out too far, start with less and slowly work your way up! Take your time.

Its still quite personal, my guess is 3-6 weeks, and 2 times a day would probably suffice. =)
Thank you for the comment, wietse66!
