I'm glad to see the Black re enactors represented, And the gentleman who played Fredrick Douglass in Glory was Raymond St Jauques, He played Doc in the Green Berets with John Wayne. He's dead now.
Where were the Cavalry sir? Were they not represented at this affair?
You are in error. To this day, both side, often together, join in remembrance of the fallen and to honor their sacrifice and courage. Compare this to "civil" wars in other countries where the losers are eradicated or enslaved. Then there was the Reign of Terror in France (AKA, The New Islamic Republic).
Invasion: taking your "guys", equpping them with weapons and uniforms (aka "raising an army), and sending them into territory that does not belong to them for the purpose of opening a new theater of operations, disrupting enemy production, or simply establishing direct control of the said territory. Now, did the North OR the South ever do the above?? Don't reply, just answer for yourself.
You PEOPLE!! LOL! I swear, your inability to agree with eachother is the reason we have wars in the first place! All I"m gonna say is this; perhaps it'll help...
You obviously don't know much outside of the crap you've been fed, by neo-confederate propagandists. I don't think it's wrong at all. The CSA was the ENEMY. Its 'soldiers' were nothing but bushwacking rebels. Its 'statesmen' were nothing but seditionists, hungry for their own power. The fairy tales spun by lost cause devotees, are just that.
Listen, I was born a Pennsylvanian. You can't condemn the common soldier from the south. He or she were fighting for their homes and their families , not slavery or states rights. God forbid another Civil War broke out, how many of you Northeners now living in the South would give up your home in the south and fight for the North. Just something you should think about. God bless America.
they believed they had certain, unalienable, rights which the government had no business taking away from them (slavery being the BIG one). However, the Southerners were fighting for thier homes. That's why they were in Pennislyvania in te first place - to force the invading Northern armies away from Southern lands and carry the war to the North with the hope of possibly capturing Washington D.C.
what about the right of the slaves to their freedom. isn't everyman entitled to their freedom as it says in the constitution. Oh...wait...that's blacks where just mules to them not humans.
Right they were fighting for their homes, when they were the aggressors. They started the war in the first place. Which was started over what? States rights, not really.
Licoln was a supporter of corwin amendment which allowed all current slave owning states to keep their slaves. It was started over power. The southerner were losing their power to the north, and they wanted to keep it. They were afraid that eventually they would lose their slaves, because the north was industrialing rapidly.
theres just so much here that you really have to look at the issues facing the nation at that time. its hard to explain with only 500 words a comment. But from looking at everything and looking past all the smoke screens it boils down to the war being started by greedy southern slave owners. don't listen to the war of northern aggression BS, because really, who attacked first.
So, why were they attacking, or trying to attack the citizens of NM, CO, CA, AZ, and UT? Why were they forcing the citizens of KY, Eastern TN, Northern AL, Western NC, and VA, to join the CSA, when they chose to remain in the USA? They were only 'fighting for their homes', towards the END of the war. AFTER their aggression was thwarted.
Kentucky joined the confederate army, they never invaded at all. you should read more about it mate cuz it was the usa that invaded the south trying to change what the south were doing and yes they had slaves but so did the north and thats a fact. the war was not over slavery lincoln was re elected so he had do do something that will keep him president so he chose 2 ablolish slavery and by the time he done that the south was already lettin the slaves go.
The USA invaded the south i got books about it and every book sayths that the US president called up 75,000 soldiers to invade the south, they was not a rebelian they were normal people defending there homes. the CSA could of ended the war on the firls battle at manassas but the didnt want to invade they were defending there homes.
they did invade, they most definitely wanted to. What is Gettysburg, that is them invading the north and they tried it multiple times. You talk about morals here, the South had terrible morals coated with fancy gentleman like behavior.
There were "deathcamps", but they weren't called that. I do quote the camp of Andersonville. Soldiers in both sides complained that their captors killed more in the camps than those men did on the field.
God Bless America and all my fellow Americans that died to save America from those damned terrorist in the South. Maybe one day when we beat back the muslim terrorist we can hang all those that still hold their allegiance to the confederacy.
Furthermore sir, the Confederates have all since gone to their ultimate reward just as have all of the Federals. The last Civil War veteran slipped this mortal coil sometime in the 1950s.
I'm well aware of the origins of the parade. I simply point out the south tried to destroy the United States. Why would any truly patriotic American celebrate treason? I could never do Civil War reenacting, I'd get too tired of hearing about how the war wasn't about slavery, but states rights--to which I ask, which state right? There was only one of concern.
I'm just used to the 14th Getting dropped on the cutting room floor. Its just sad, because a lot of time it just seems they are left out on purpose. They were one of the if not the most battle tested and respect union regiments of the 1860's. Only regiment to have fought all 3 days at gettysburg, and have 3 monuments on the field! FYI the 5th NY ARE not red legged devils! the 14th Brooklyn was. Stonewall nicknamed them that on henry hill!
Well, okay... Just didn't understand what you are talking about. Thanks explanation. I have to say, that Lee made a big mistake at Gettysburg. We should have prefer General Longstreet's suggestion to dodge the hills... Well, it happened....
It's our state, that was invaded, it was our army, that crushed that invasion, and went on to TOTAL VICTORY. God Bless the USA, fighting insurgents since 1861.
What invasion do you mean? I guess you mean Fort Sumter, where the Confederacy started the war... Well, it was only an attack to a fort, which stood on CSA-area (seen from the southern point of view)...
In one scene (approx. 2:00), there is a black guy with long grey hairs and beard. I do believe I have already seen him anywhere. Did he perchance act in the film "Glory"?
Hehe, You can see ME in this video at 5:36, just over the Captain's right shoulder. We're right behind the Zouaves while the band plays Garry Owen. Very nice video!
There should be units from the Confederacy.

Again, then what the hell were they doing, trying to invade, and annex California, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona?
Why were the CSA elite salivating over Mexico, and Cuba?
Why did the CSA invade Kentucky, and drive that state into the Union camp.

The rights were, to be able to secede from the union, and for each state to write its own rules and laws.
