  • Beautiful lady with a beautiful heart...同胞们加油!

  • whats the songs name at 2:47, sang by the girl??

  • wow they sing well.

  • That boy's song is so sad =(

  • that was so touching, i couldn't help but cry

  • it's a bitch China censors youtube

  • i volunteered at a school in a community called the caihe community with free the children, they were greatly affected by the earthquake!

  • This was so touching, my condolence for the people who past away.

  • that's pretty cool!

  • I am totally/deeply touched..nice movie..

  • FREAKING AWSOME. i want to do this with my music to. im def going to buy the cd. i really liked the last song

  • I was moved! So wonderful! Thank you for doing that!

  • These kids all have pretty good voices

  • It hits me when I saw this video.

I'm going this summer for a volunteer project to Chengdu, Sichuan. This video is motivating me more to help the local people.

  • lol i love how MahlerTitan is finally shutting the f*ck up now.

    much love to china.

  • love you guys

  • test

  • you probably have really bad social skills just like other FOBs right?

are you one of those "book poeple"

actually i feel really bad for you now man...

  • i don't know what you mean by FreshOfftheBoat. I have been in U.S for decades. And a little twat should not be acting so immaturely to someone who is much older and wiser than you. Instead, you should shut up and listen, and learn. What does a 19 year old know? When I was 19, I knew nothing, you are barely an adult, why do you feel so confident that what you know is the truth? Don't they teach you DOUBT in college? are you even in college?

  • yes i am a fob and i am a high school drop out

what does that make me i wonder?

    <3

  • that doesn't make you anything, you are just another person, not any better or worse than the one next.

  • furthermore, it is not whatever your "label" is that defines who you are. but what you say and what you do. What you've said here hasn't been very impressive. A whole bunch of BS really, doesn't show any insight or even basic understanding of recent Chinese history and politics. A FOB high school dropout is not the end of the world; but a young person with a CLOSED MIND refusing to admit his/her ignorance and lacking any willingness to learn is almost certainly a death sentence.

  • Some one talks like they know thing. In fact they do not. As a faculty of Cornell, I can guarantee you that.

  • College? Hey, old man, if you can get in Cornell, I do not mind let you in my class and listen.

You complained about my English. Tell you what, I get complained every semester, but I am still a faculty member and no matter how much those rich or smart kids pay their tuition, they have to understand what I say and in whatever way I like.

About education, I feel really and deeply sorry about your kids, if they are taught in your way.

  • Does being a faculty at Cornell justify your incredible ignorance? threre are idiots everywhere, there are idiots in the streets, there are idiots in Harvard, Cornell, or whichever Ivy League school you want to bring up. The point is, (and I've made it abundantly clear), it is not what your label is "Cornell Faculty" that defines who you are. But, what you do and what say. So, don't waste your energy by bring up that Cornell Ivy league crap, you'll only add disgrace to a reputable instutuition.

  • what subject do you teach? Censorship 101? "Democracy and the downfall of the western world"?

Chances are you are probably in the sciences, which explains your complete ignorance about western democracy.

And judging your fervent support of communist elites, u probably haven't being here (U.S) very long either. Why don't you do some research, and check the lovely things that the Communist party has done to its people in all these years?

  • gee, what has the CCP done to the chinese people? uhm...... well for one thing, there has never been a propaganda campaign so thoroughly well spread and enforced in China than the communist propaganda of 'everyone is equal', 'the people is the master of the nation', because if you spread ideas of democracy in Qing dynasty, even in late Qing dynasty, the chinese back than would laugh at you and call you a bloody idiot, because to their mind, democracy is a joke!

  • To their mind, the west is a mindless mass, because they have no master-servent reations, they are a body with no head becuase they have democracy, becase in China, every one has to obey the emperor, but in the west, they have to discuss and vote to decide which decision to make. To the Chinese commoner of the late emperial age, it is common sense that officials would beat them and cheat them of the hard earned money and all they can do is to cry in silence.

  • no government is perfect my friend, and I wont object to the fact that the CCP is amoung the most imperfect, but CCP has done some thing so remarkable to change the mind set of the chinese people, that none has done before---the CCP has broken the mind set of servitude of the chinese, the chinese learned from those complicated propogandas the simple and revolutionary idea that emperors can be disobeyed, and authorities can be toppled, that the people dont need a ruler to servive.

  • that no matter how the government tries to control the people, with force or trickery, it would change what is inside the heads and minds of the people. The CCP has destroyed the emperor's spiritual authorities over the chinese people, therefore you would never again find a chinese who truely reveres any form of chinese authority from the bottom of his/her heart. The CCP dug its own grave by destroying the chain around the souls of the chinese people.

  • and for these reasons, without CCP coming to power, democracy would never be this badly desired by the chinese. The CCP did brainwash the chinese people with loads of slogens, but the most well remembered slogens are still the most gratifying ones like 'the people are the masters of this nation', 'every one is equal', and it is the strength of these slogens that feuled 1989, and many other events! Without the CCP, these damn yanks and european ideas would never find good enough ground to grow.

  • But EVERYBODY hates America and MANY people hate4 Americans. Don't cry. The world knows it. We all know that you guys are killing innocent iraqis, Afganis, Pakis, right now, In the past you guys have killed the innocnet civilians in japan, vietnam, south korea. Now yoiu guys are ALSO killing Mexicans using biological weapon. The world knows it. ONLY the dumb fuck fat American knows nothing about this issue you big mac despised by everyone in the world. Don't be shy. We all know it.

  • furthermore, one can be completely ignorant even if one's well-educated. I can spent all my life studying a particular subject, that only proves my competence in that particular subject. But, to use the prestige of an academic institution to defend your mislead, idiotic political beliefs is just downright silly!

Hey, maybe if Hitler went to Harvard, that'll justify his stance on the Jews? Right? wow, you are a piece of work!

  • my kids are fine, I don't have to teach them anything. They have their own opinions about politics, and that's fine with, That's freedom. In America we don't have to be bound by just ONE newspaper, ONE Tv station, and ONE take on political matters.

  • well, MahlerTitan, you have grossly underestimated the chinese people, if the CCP really did do nothing, nothing good at all in China, we would have overthrown them long ago, like how we've toppled and overthrown countless impotent emperors. you may doubt our abilities to overthrow tyranny as now the PLA has guns and ships and nukes and we only has ours bear hands, remember how the CCP came to power, they didnt have enough guns, or tanks or fighter jets, yet they overthrown the KMT.

  • we are people who survived things you yanks cant even imagine, we lived like cattles for 1 hundred years! You know what kind of life that is? From 1840 to 1950! yet we survived, who are you to criticized us? You fringe mind couch potato! do you even know how it feels like living in china during those years? You know how it feels like to live like a second class citizens in your country? You know what indignity that is?

  • Where is your petty 'democracy' then, when we are been slaughtered by those fake samurais, when we slave our asses to make you white hairy asses rich? Where the fuck is 'democracy' when china is devided up by european imperialism. Now when we finally got on our feet and starting to be independent and strong, you guys would start with your petty sermons of democracy! Know my hatred towards your hipocrites, you known neither the past, nor the present of China, yet you dared to predict a future.

  • guys... thanks for doing that. it's been extremely moving to watch this. could you do more with the music - put it all in clips on the net somewhere or get itunes to sell them as fund-raising...

  • Well done both of you ,their is hope yet

    cheers

  • this is really a cool one.

  • I would've love to hear u scream, "It's BinLadin! Run it's BinLadin!" you damn prick. People didn't make fun your country when 9/11 happened. God bless America? Maybe, but definetly not you.

  • OMG! I didn't even realize how many people died. That is so sad. Thanks for making this video.

  • Thanks very much for the video.

  • i heard about this on a local classical station recently. they play a clip of the part where kids are imitating the sound of the quake... haunting as hell!

  • This is why people know you're a immature racist that can't spell for nuts.

    Hint: you spelled Asians wrongly.

  • There is something wrong with you.

  • hauntingly beautiful song at the end

  • ahh but ppl do remember victums of diasaters dont they. Its not commemorial, but instead, memorial.

  • what u r doing in my hometown is soooo cool.

  • i was born and raised in Chengdu till i was almost 12 years old. the earthquake last year had such a devastating impact on these people's lives.

it's amazing what you are doing.

  • this is great, more ppl like u, would make this world better faster, not like those ppl who call themselves "humanitarians" and only talk, and stuff money into their pockets.

    keep it up

  • tggggggggggggggggggg

  • spectacular. The have so little, yet there is still more happiness for them than what most north american's like me have.

    YNA

  • I can't wait to hear the finished product of music, beautiful voices. Great project, congratulations!

  • what's the songs name at 3:45?

  • A Muslim Convert due to abu khater

  • he is good singing bring him to the sky to bright like one star! and the other 2 girls :D

  • awesome

  • this film is very moving. thank you.

  • Thank you for posting this video. We see so little of what happens to the 'everyday people' of inland China. It was very moving to note that when tragedy strips away the temporary distractions, then the love between parents and children can be clearly seen, and we know that we are not so different after all.

    Andy

  • If my town had a major earthquake and a whole year later some hippie gal showed up playing guitar to help I'd gladly make her run for her life out of there...

  • abby is hot.

  • Awesome video. very touching.

  • awesome

  • to be a chinese in another country...i am proud of my home

  • why are there chinese comments? hmm.. i thought china banned youtube..?

  • no many chinese have ways to go around the firewall. almost all chinese in china knows how. there are many chinese from northern, middle and southern china on youtube and other sites.

  • I find it extremely positive. It means that the youths of today maybe will govern China with more openness, when their turn will come... right?

  • btw, i dont support so much openess actually. thiings like this have to have some censorship. i dont want to explain why i feel this way. but many chinese agree with this kind of censorship. it is not bad censorchip, it is good censorship. im too lazy to explain why i feel this way, but i have very good reasons.

  • b/c of this, we chinese from china know how rediculously biased western media can be. that is why many chinese from west and china were so furious with the west during olympics and all the time. go to china to see the real china. dont just rely on your media. soory about this rant. just fyi. also jackie chan from hongkong just 2 weeks ago said this, and i quote, " im not sure anymore. i think chinese people need to be more controlled, or else china will become as chaotic as taiwan and hongkong"

  • I'm glad for u that you're happy with such a situation. But let me say to you that I have access with all kind of media, each of them has very different points of view, also about China. And I don't have to deal with any firewall. "Rediculously biased"? Well, allow me to disagree... Ok that's it. Hope i didn't hurt u, but we have very different values... Byeee

  • as long as you understand it yourself

if there's nothing to hide the chinese goverment shouldn't have to censor anything.

The problem with the west isn't the lack of censorship, but the amount of spin and propoganda that the media pushes. In china you just have propoganda, but probably less spin. (Read a book on mao and you'll understand the secrets of the communist party)

  • To MahlerTitan:

Please do not spoil this beautiful video by smuggling your political trash.

You are so like those paid by NED and/or CIA whose job is to spread hate and distrust among Chinese and their government.

If you really have balls, go back to China and give us a revolution, like what CCP did about 80 years ago. But PLEASE DO NOT BARK online! You loser!

  • IF you have any balls, or better, intelligence. you would try to argue with me in a civilized manner. But, you are lacking either, so all you can do, is to make insults to another person with a different opinion. This is just what the they want, they want the enslaved to defend their slave masters. I tip my hat to Deng, to Jiang, and Hu, they've done a great job making their people happy for being enslaved. But, what happen if Chinese economy don't go as well? What will happen then?

  • You are working hard, really.

Your master must be very happy and will give you 50 cents more for each one post here.

People like you do not deserve civilized manner, at least from Chinese people.

To speak of slave master, I think you should bow to Dalai Lama. Oops, you are in the same pant now.

  • and that's the most sophisticated response you can throw at me? Pitiful!

btw, I could care less about Dalai Lama, I hate him as much as the next Chinese. I don't quite get your reasoning there, I never pledged loyalty to Dalai Lama, nor do I support Tibet independence. In fact, I believe Tibet is a part of china, end of question. But, it seems very alarming to me that modern day Chinese believe their country to be "perfect", and their leaders beyond criticism, this is beyond naive and idiotic.

  • This might not be sophisticated, but that is what you can understand. I do not waste too much time with dogs.

The good thing is, it is not 20 years ago, nobody in China will listen to you and people like you. You may still fool those foreigners and get funded from their organizations, but you will not be able to affect Chinese any more. You are just like some annoying flies around us.

A poem to you(which is civilized):

    尔曹身与名具裂

    不废江河万古流

  • Comment removed

  • 尔曹身与名具裂

    不废江河万古流

why are you comparing the communist elite to 唐初四杰?

  • To speak of pity. I think you really are. Since you are spurned by China and living in US by selling your soul. The thing you wish to happen will never happen. Haha!

  • well, i could care less, because I don't live in China. I was thinking for your own good. I mean, you live in China, so it doesn't really concern me much. So, if you don't want to China to prosper and modernize, that's your loss. btw, how old are you anyways? I've seen teenagers with better reasoning abilities than you have displayed. I sure hope you don't represent the creme of the crop China has to offer(i doubt it). Oh wait a moment, they all immigrated to the United States, hahaha!

  • China today is advancing at a breakneck pace. China has a booming automotive industry, has growing Telecommunications companies, has an aerospace industry. Oh, did I mention the Chinese are in the space race now? The only thing China needs is a steady flow of energy. As the USA stirrs up a hornets nest in the Middle East, she eyes suspiciously at China's push into Africa.

  • btw, i think it's a beautiful video too, and I have donated money personally to the earthquake victims. But, what does a nature disaster have anything to do with our discourse on CHina's problems? If all we do is say "China is perfect as it is", before long, we will end up being behind all other more advanced nations. I don't want democracy, for the sake that we are more alike the western nations, but for a STRONGER China, and democracy is the only way to go. It's that simple.

  • is Tianmen square incident western bias? Did the europeans made the Chinese government kill all those students? lol, you are so clueless about your own history! Go hit the books, before you spread your ignorance here!

btw, i've been to China, and lived there for 12 years, I love China very much. That's why I care about these sort of things, the TRUTH.

  • well, heeps chinese are in overseas? did you notice that? go abroad and broaden your views.

  • yep, there is that passage that demonstrates this very well:

    不识庐山真面目,只缘身在此山中。

  • hi

it is true that Chinese government is not the greatest and of course China had so many problems

but why always hang on onto the history??? i think we should keep the history always as an "silent alarm" but not live in the past

yeah its true that China now still has problems, but as a developing country, with a 1.3 billion population and every other countries trying their best to stop us from fighting for our goal, i can say China so far is doing a great job

  • because history teaches us to not make the same mistakes again. The Chinese are angry that the Japanese are not addressing their war crimes in WWII; well, maybe their government should adress their crimes too. I find it very difficult to trust a government, and believe it to be noble, if it doesn't adress the past mistakes, but merely try to censor all information about it. It sounds too much like dirty politics to me, do you want people like that running a country of 1.3 billion?

  • I mean, is china really better? The common Chinese would say YES. They care are standards of living, if they have food to eat, and cars to drive, they are content. But, shouldn't they deserve more? Certain rights are universal, like the freedom of expression, the freedom to think, and these freedoms are not permitted in China. As I have said, the modern dictatorship is very clever, they try to control people by satisfying their desires. Which is much more disconcerting than iron fisted approach.

  • lol i love people who always talk sh*t about china.

but the thing is, if you hate china so much then why would you watch this video and spit on china's face?

what did china ever do to you?

you are probably a pathetic virgin right?

is this all you do everyday?

i probabaly find you some fat chicks if you really begged me.=]

  • didn't i already clarify before that I love China very much? if someone you love is sick or ill, don't you want to find a cure? I am opening up a discourse on these issues so that China may prosper for eternity.

your sophomoric responses however, does show your lack of maturity. kid, go hit the books, and I mean REAL books, before you make urself looking like an idiot before all the world.

  • lol sure i lack maturity

at least i dont just think i know everything and start spamming ignorant literatures n youtube lol

if you are so good at politics, why dont you put yourself in some real use?

    go help china!

    lmao

seriously dude go get a job from the chinese government or some sh*t like that.

ps you dont know anything about china, you think chinese government is not trying?

you really think that its easy to change china jsut like that? with the presence of ignorant people like you?

  • I never said i know everything, I am still learning, like today, I learned how low teenage immaturity can go from you.

you know how difficult it is to get a government job in China? Let me educate you a little on the subject: you have to pass a very difficult civil service exam first to qualify working for the government. After that, the way you can move yourself upwards is by merit or connections. Indeed, in too many cases, we've seen that having the right connections makes a bigger difference.

  • I don't know everything about China, i never claimed that I did. But unlike you, I try to learn, and try to better my understanding of world affairs by critically analyzing the vast amount of information one can find nowadays. I never said it is easy to change china, I said it is necessary for China to change. Whether be destroying the communist elites from within or from a revolution. neither choice are easy, but Dr.Sun Yat sen's ideals have not been fulfilled, and it's our duty to fulfill them

  • Finally, while I do respect your opinion and your effort. I just think blaming everything on "chinese communism" is an easy way out. China's communism is not soviet union. For 5000 yrs,China has ONE central gov. As more western countries move towards socialism and China towards "democracy", it will be somewhere in the middle, but I don't see that we can't solve human rights problems with just having the freedom to vote. Remember corruption and elitecism is problem everywhere, not just in China.

  • The degree of corruption in China can be lessen if checks and balances are installed. If you can vote for an official, for say 3-5 year terms. it will be more difficult for them to form cliques, and strengthen their "hold" on a particular geographic region.

  • i think you need to review your history lessens first. China was first united by the kingdom of Qin, that's about 2000 years ago. That was the 1st centralized governing system. but, there were many periods when China was politically fragmented: between Qin and Han, between Han and Jin, and between Jin and Sui, etc.... To say that China has ONE central gov for 5000 yrs, is not just wrong, but downright hilarious.

  • Comment removed

  • and before you starting making hasty false assumptions about who i am, and what my intentions are. let me just tell you that i am was born in China, grew up in China, and lived there fore decades. And, I can tell you, when i was young, i had this irrational tendency to defend the government, but only later to realze how completely irrational i was. the communist leaders aren't what they seem, kid, get over it. you'll find out about their true nature sooner or later.

  • They (communist elites) have done some horrible things to our the Chinese people. Tienanmen square massacre is just one of them. If you are truly a loyal, patriotic Chinese, then you should rise up and defend the PEOPLE of China, not these communist goons. They'll turn a gun at you anytime when they feel threatened about their own security.

  • when you say "freedom of expression, freedom to think"...I think you are refering on political level mostly. It almost amuses me when people like you think that's all freedom is. Freedom is a objective word. To able to criticise your gov. is only one facet that minority so-called intellectual elit thinks when they want others to think they are political savvy what not. I really don't think you understand freedom at all.

P.S. you are criticise the gov. in China.

  • nope, i mean on a daily level. If you control media, and education. Then you are brainwashing people into thinking what you want them to think. The average citizen in China do not have the freedom to think otherwise. Their education, their media, are all purposefully made to stifle any "new" ideas. Or rather, ideas that do not agree with the party line.

  • We had this same conversation in my college international study class and the conclusion we came up was that yes, China does have human rights problems but it is still a developing country. Compare to what the Japanese done which was invading ANOTHER country and erasing history (many Jap. youth don't know that actually happened)...it's one thing for a country to have inside dispute and conflict...but it's another to have another country invade and kill but only pretend nothing happened.

  • Many if not all Chinese don't know what happened either. Sure, China didn't invade another country and killing others. But how is killing our own Chinese brothers any more nobler? You can walk down the street today in China, and no young people will know what 6/4 was about, you can go search on baidu or google, you'll never find out what 6/4 was about. Btw, the new book "Prisoner of the State" just came out, maybe all of you should go read it. It was written from Zhao Ziyang's secret tapes.

  • You are smuggling your trash here, again. This time, it is a BOOK. AND THIS IS YOUR "FOX TAIL".

If you want advertise it, go pay for it. Do not use the popularity of other people's video. How low you are.

In Chinese, there is a word, dogs bite people, but people cannot bite dogs. I am not like you, who is paid by foreign government and pretends to be polite and civilized and nice while selling and spread poison. So I cannot treat and talk to you politely, and I do not feel sorry about it.

  • it's an interesting book, you might learn something from it.

what saying is that, i don't remember such a saying in Chinese (i'm fluent in it btw).

"poison"? poison to you perhaps, but I'd rather call it Truth. That's right, you don't get whole lot of those in China. I'm teaching you something that you can't learn from your state control media, you should thank me!

  • Funny. You say it is truth then it is?!

You think people are as dumb as you?

    lmao.

People are smarter than you think.

BTW, go ahead, your master will pay you more by posting here. I will not play with you any more in this thread.

  • Comment removed

  • you running out of silly things to say, so you surrender without putting much a fight.

well, I accept your surrender, but i got to admit, you one crappy opponent.

  • Haha, as always, you and 民运 can only claim victory by yourself.

I agree you win, ok? you satisfied.

But I have to point out, once again:

You are smuggling your trash by using the popularity of other people's video.

You dare not to speak out by yourself and to real Chinese audience. You just bark here in English to let your master see and got paid without any danger. You Coward.

  • Good point!

  • -Thank you for admitting your defeat, but you could've had done it sooner.

-I didn't "smuggling your trash by using the popularity of other people's video.", (a poorly phrased sentence btw) I merely saw an interesting discussion, and wanted to take a part. I engaged in a discussion, because I felt that there is something to be debated about. But, I am somewhat disappointed that you turned out to be just immature as that little FOB maydaysoath.

  • You did smuggle trash here.

    Everyone can see.

You are just coward to admit, just like Chai lin and all the other 民运, ask other people to die but run away themselves.

If you are paid to do what you did here, I have nothing to speak to a dog. If you really believe what you said, I feel deeply sorry for you. You are still be cheated, not by CCP but by some worse people.

  • I'm not paid, when I see idiotic comments are being made. I'll volunteer my time to correct them, people on you tube deserve to see the Truth.

If I have the chance, I'll do exactly what i've said. I will never ask another man to do anything that I haven't done myself.

  • To speak of defeat. I do not know whether you are too dumb to understand IRONY. I never debate with any point you hold, so where is the fight and where comes the win and loss. What I did was to point out you were smuggling and you might be paid to do so as a dog.

  • you can't understand nor use simple English, so what's the point for continue this idiocy? To show the world how poor your English skills truly is? And you teach? Oh my god, every student's worse nightmare, a research assistant who couldn't speak a word of English and fucks up his duties.

  • "putting much a fight"

    lol

    who talks like that?

i love how you said communist elites

are you actually that stupid to think that China is a really communism country?

there is no real communism, i think you are the one that hsould read some books?

i dont understand why you keep cliamign that you like China and you wanted to change it?

why does China need change? can you tell me? CHINESE EXPERT

  • Comment removed

  • -China needs to change because the prosperity you see now is driven purely by its economic growth. Year after year double digit growth is unsustainable, at some point, economy may go south. (look at U.S right now), when that happens, the unemployed masses will longer willing to be content with the government. All of the evils i have told, freedom of expression, chronic corruption will only lead to a violent end of the current political system if something new hasn't been put in place- democracy

  • lol, to say that the chinese people dont want democracy and dont want any change is lying, what the chinese dont want to just copy another countrie's political system, because china has dont if many times in the last 120 years, and it doesnt work, the current political system itself is rapidly changing, the dangerous thing is that it lacks a blueprint in political reform, the question 'where are we going' is most important question that chinese reformers need to ask themselves.

  • and government statement of the so call 'socialism with chinese characteristics' is vague and unclear, talking about economic growth, there are no economic growth, only one third of our GDP are acutually our GNP, and we make our money by polluting our land selling our natural resources en masse and with unbelievably cheap price. There are very little thing made in china that you cant make anywhere else. As for democracy, I wonder if you mean democracy as a idea or democratic political system.

  • if you meant democratic political system, what defining characteristic or element is nessasary and sufficient to put china on the right track of better civil rights and sustainable growth? Entirely copying the US is surely not possible and not practical as well. Just by giving the people the right to vote is not good enough as seen in Lebannon and Gaza. extremist and facists are unbelivable well learned in the art of coming to power. Democracy is much, much more than just the 9 letters.

  • and as I say, major political reform must be carried out with extremely care and consideration to make sure people with sense global responsibilty and credibility would come to power through democratic means. If the power of china fall into the wrong hand, it would be end of the world. so acturally, the world is safer if china dont undergo and majors changes prematurely.
