The NAACP claimed, and I quote: "every black portrayed is either a crook or a clown - only the worst images of blacks are shown" A LIE.
THE TRUTH: Every single Judge, Lawyer (except Calhoun), Policeman, Business Mogul, or what-have-you portrayed on this great show are well mannered, well spoken, and well dressed black men and women,.. often the 'crooks' are THE WHITES as in: Counterfeiters Rent Basement
"So don't forget, we is all bruddahs in dat great fraternity, Da Mystic Knights of da Sea"
screw the NAACP they cant take a joke. the first sign of humility is being able to laugh at yourself. I watched this all the time growing up and laughed my ass off. still do.
The original Amos n Andy radio show was done by Charles Correll and Freeman Gosden - they were brilliant. But the casting done for the TV shows was perfect. Tim Moore (Kingfish) and Spencer Willimas (Andy) are perfect for their parts. Just a shame the NAACP was able to get these shows banned from broadcast. My bet is they would be a huge hit even today.
I first heard this on the radio when the two white guys were playing Amos and Andy. Now that I've seen it, I'm glad that they kept it the same way, especially since Hollywood is so notorious about changing story lines.

It really does seem like a black version of Mr. Haney from Green Acres! Except for me, Amos and Andy was a whole lot better!

And you wonder why these classics were taken off the air? Look at al the crappy reality shows!
