to start this tractor at winter you need 1fill radiator with warm water 2start 2stroke motor with hand or el. motor 3 turn on the cluch whos conect little engine and big engine4 you need to off the clutch and turn off the little engine when big engine starts. After work you need to empty radiator because ice will broke radiator and engine.
@andy72xbox yes they callthem a pony motor because there small cat john deere mtz those are a few tractors and dozers that use them they work good but are a little slow at starting
@mrspivvy OR, a petrol engine you can just fill up with gas, when you need to start the Diesel during the cold Siberian winters, rather than spendign a week to charge the all to cold electrical battery.
I presume you know that a battery looses capasity in cold weather. I doubt that a battery has enought currensy to start the diesel during the cold winters of Russia.
@Torvikholm Yes, you are quite right of course, I was not being totally serious in my last post. plus of course two-stroke petrol engines do not have any sump oil to jellify in extreme cold either
The factory had been set up in the time of the CCCP in 1946 so the great amount of MTZ machines mainly had been produced in the Sovietunion (USSR), since it collapsed the manufacture has been located in Belarus.
I love this technology used on old USSR tractors...
this way you never have to worry about cold start in winter, if you manage to start that little 2 stroke engine, then let it gain some rpm, engage it's clutch, and there you go, you have started that big Diesel with only one shot :)
in my opinion, this was the most reliable way to do it...
@Oinikis but talking only about starting process you have to agree, that this technology is more reliable in about -20 C and colder winter than electrical starter.
but if you fill your cooling system with suitable liquid for winter, then you don't have to worry about ice in your radiator :)
@joskaaa I don't know any person, who uses winter cooling liquid in these tractors, since all hoses in them are leaking :D But it's still a good machine, cheap and simple.
@MrErnijs I think that 2 stroke engine is air cooled, maybe it is different on some tractors, but provided heat by it has totally no use, there would be almost no usable heat after such a small time of running, if they share one cooling system
Yes, it is a auxiliary gasoline motor, pd10 it used to be back in the sixties, not nice but believe em it works allways in comparation with dead frozen batteries...
so let me guess, there is a 2 stroke engine(weed eater or chainsaw) that you started via a rope on the flywheel then once the mini 2-stroke was running you engaged that into the tractors flywheel somehow then turning the tractors engine over. wow.

MTZ is a russian tractor! The Belarus is the small brother of the MTZ, what is not russian but the MTZ is RUSSIAN. And the other brother of the MTZ is the romanian UTOS tractor.
xOlIiEkIlLax - the starter engine is a 2T, but the master engine is 4T diesel.
Hey, I live in Belarus, 300 kilometers from MTZ plant, my friend works there and tests new models of MTZ . The name of the plant is "Minsky Traktorny Zavod". MTZ is produced in BELARUS in MINSK!!!
Just remembered, you can disengage the drive for the main hydraulic pump on most Belarus tractors to make them easier to start. I think the lever for it is just in front of the cab on the right hand side.
A timber contractor that I used to work for had an old Belarus 1500 with a donkey starter on it. We used to start the petrol engine up and let it run for about half an hour before trying to start the diesel up. Just enough to warm the oil and coolant up. Takes the edge right off starting them.
so is that a gas two-stroke starter engine to start the diesel? we just put the tractor inside, plugged in the block heater, and left it running 24/7 (-22ºf -30ºc hasn't got that cold here in 12 years). gas starter, that's smart.
nothing too funny - he is just fixing it,starting from engine directly. This tractor is cheap like nice bike in America and still does what it needs (it is actually old model - older then most of the commentators here)
I am american and can really see the benifits of the donky starter. It doesnt get cold enough here to need anything more than what an electric starter can do.
Stare modele MT3 miły rozrusznik spalinowy, chyba taki sam jak mają DT 75 turbo (tak mi się wydaje po dzwięku silnika rozruchowego bo taki sam jak w moim DT75)
Only one-cylinder two-stroke petrol engine for MTZs. I don't know exactly, but according to the piston diameter I approximate it to ~350-450 ccm. The starter engine has common water cooling system with the main diesel engine, so it can warm up the water, and its exhaust pipe is connected to the air inlet of the diesel engine,so it can warm up the air for the main engine also. I think the power of the petrol starter engine is greater than the electronic starter motor, beyond the previous benefits.
I'd like to see one who try to start diesel engine with electrical power in Russia when temperature is -20c -30c degree. It is going to be very funny to watch .
i live in saskatchewan (Canada) where it gets a lot colder than that. we have a lot more trouble than the russians. for every country in the world except USA, it gets to as cold as -43c. for USA, that's -45.4f. on a side-note, america, get with the times.. the metric system is over 200 years old, and every country on the planet other than USA have changed over more than 30 years ago.
i totally aggree. what is the most unique, vital, and powerful substance in the world? water. what do we and every living thing depend on? water. so why not use a temp. measuring system that has 0 as freezing point of water? also, it makes sense using metric that 1 calorie is the energy needed to turn 1 gram of water 1 deg celcius. and one litre is 1 kilogram. so simple. but i guess one country would rather stick with the "old ways"
I Think you are a former immigrant cause your thoughts is already clear and exact.
