I had a similar thing happen to me a few years ago. Church van full of people on the shoulder w/ a flat tire, panicky driver came to a dead stop in front of me in the right lane while I was trying to move left to make space for the van. It was either hit the van or the car. Thankfully it was only a 15 mph collision, nobody hurt, but still.... the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few....
I feel badly for the driver of that truck. Most truckers do a very good job of maintaining a safe following distance, but idiots in cars who cut right in front of them cause situations like this.
Bus drivers stopped rather than proceed more slowly? Afraid wind would blow busses over? Makes sense then.
Then idiot in white car stopped in lane #2?
Still, must blame jackknifed trucker for either following too closely or driving too fast for conditions. He should have seen idiot stopped in lane 2 and slowed and stopped. Better, if possible, changed lanes to #1 and passed.
Many jack knife situations could have been avoided if the trucker had maintained a proper following distance. Many truckers think a "proper" distance is not possible because " IF I do, people cut in front of me". That attitude, indicates a driver who is in a hurry. In traffic, you have to accept that you will travel 1-2mph slower than everyone zipping and zig-zagging past, otherwise you will tailgate, and eventually end up like this trucker did. ( I have almost 2 million accident free miles. )
Actually, I think the Truck driver did A WONDERFUL JOB. The car was parked in the right lane......this was not a case of following too closely....This was a case of trying to not kill anyone, and the truck driver acted responsibly....Only once the truck had wrecked, did the car move to the shoulder....
no thats bullshit.... cars cut trucks up making the trucker slam on his brakes and if hes going at a speed his trailer could come out or swurve across the road and hitting something at the side if the road.
I saw involved in an accident on I-84 at the Newburgh-Beacon Toll Bridge in upstate NY. The kid cut infront of me at the last second to get to the EZ Pass lane. The trooper gave him the ticket and the kid couldn't undestand why it was his fault even with two witnesses (both toll takers) and video recording at the toll booth. I pretended to look at my truck while I listened to the Trooper explain in a strong vioce why his story didn't fit what really happened. THANK YOU NYSP!
Here is the problem with alot of people, they drive by in there car and see two buses and a four wheeler and think nothing of it, But they see that truck and most would think "stupid truck driver driving to fast for conditions" That just drives me crazy.
Yeah.....part of life in Truckin..... Always the Trucks fault..I have been in once accident, and there was a Trooper behind me when it happened.. He told me I did a wonderful job of not killing the guy in the car. He even ticketed the fourwheeler for pulling a stupid move.I got lucky he was around to see it happen!!
A few years ago I was above Albany NY coming south and hit a wall of rain and cars were stopped in the lanes, I hit the shoulder and have no idea how I didnt hit anyone, the closest I have ever been to hitting anything in a big truck.
ah yes, trucking on the dirty side, plenty of traffic, I just went from Hagerstown to Baltimore and back on I-70 yesterday seen one four wheeler into the median bank going and three coming back west wrecked one vehicle accidents one pick up was jack knifed :) tore up from bumper to bumper just west of 695 I maintain that gasoline is $70 a gallon too cheap
I dont think the rain or wind had anything to do with it,, some people just cant drive period lol hint hint (white car)nice job lil trucker!Gonna be out there witnessing all the madness myself soon .
Well, lets see it from two points of view. If visability was poor, the car should do the PROPER thing on pull to the shoulder of the road away from traffic. Two, did the car cut off the tractor trailor, did the truck driver have a safe following distance? If visability was that bad your doing 40 MPH, should you have been going slower or should you have stopped? I am faulting the car if he did stop in the right lane, it takes two, I don't know the FULL details so I wont place blame on anyone.
we do in aust except the other side of the road , I was sitting behind an old bloke in a gopher on the freeway , crazy! nice video and upload liltrucker your a legend
